Introduction
The following manual is a set of rules and instructions intended to inform the owner/operator about the function and
safe operation of the Mow-Chip Rotary Brush Mower.
Failure to observe these rules may result in serious injury to the operator and/or other persons.
Your new Mow-Chip Rotary Brush Mower is a precision built machine, carefully constructed to give excellent perfor-
mance and long-term service. It is also a high-speed machine consisting of rapidly moving sharp components and
must be used at all times with extreme caution and attention.
Please read this manual thoroughly and carefully prior to attempting use of this mower.

4
Safety Instructions
Prior to Any Use of Mower:
1. Only mature experienced adults are permitted to operate the Mow-Chip Rotary Brush Mower. Persons age 16 or
under, or any other inexperienced persons are prohibited.
2. Do not operate machinery while intoxicated or when judgement may be impaired by medication. Safety goggles
and hearing protection are required.
3. Do not operate mower in darkness or at any time when fi eld of operation is not clearly visible.
4. Do not remove safety shields for any reason other than repairs. Replace immediately before resuming operation
of the mower.
5. Be sure the safety limit chain is in place and secured before attempting operation of the mower. Keep hands and
feet clear of the deck while the mower is running.
6. Do not engage the mower before all necessary hookups and adjustments have been made to both mower and
skidsteer.
7. Shut off all power sources including the skidsteer. Do not attempt any adjustments or repairs while mower is en-
gaged.
8. Do not attempt any inspections or repairs underneath mower before carefully blocking the mower with skids in a
solid position.
A Thorough Investigation of the Area Prior to Mowing Includes the Following:
Check the fi eld of operation in detail to prevent serious injury by thrown objects or blade contact.
1. Do not allow bystanders anywhere in the fi eld of operation. Area must be clear of people, animals, traffi c, and
buildings at all times during mowing operations.
2. Do not use the mower in confi ned spaces. Area of operation must have totally visible fi eld at all times.
3. Do not begin mowing before the entire area to be mowed has been checked in detail for objects or material which
may be thrown or discharged by mower blades. All such material must be removed.
4. Obvious hazards such as power lines, telephone or gas fi xtures as well as large rocks, scrap metal, fences or any
other objects, which cannot be removed from the site, must be fl agged or marked so that they may be avoided.
5. Mower blades must be able to turn freely at all times. Do not operate the mower in standing water, bog or where
sharply uneven terrain exists such as dirt piles, large holes and/or trenches.
6. Do not continue operation of the mower if blades should become jammed or entangled for any reason. All func-
tions should be immediately stopped by disengaging the controls. Failure to do so may result in serious damage
to the mower.
7. Do not attempt mowing operations on sharp inclines or steep declines or at sharp angles where the skidsteer and
mower may roll over.

Operating Instructions
The following rules of operation will ensure your new rotary mower delivers top quality results while protecting both
operator and machine from injury and/or damage.
1. Safety goggles and some type of hearing protection are required during mowing operation.
2. Important - no high fl ow hydraulics over 25 G.P.M., unless unit also is equipped with high fl ow motor. Doing so may
cause serious damage to the motor resulting in the warranty being voided.
3. Following normal hydraulic hookup of mower to skidsteer, do a visual check of lock pins, making sure that the
mower is locked securely in place.
4. Connect the lift limit safety chain.
A. Adjust chain around bracket on frontside of skidsteer, by looping chain. Lift limit is adjusted to 12 inches
above ground level and hydraulic couplers are then connected.
B. All safety chains and shields must be in place prior to applying power to the mower. A fi nal careful walk
around inspection is highly recommended.
5. Choose a smooth, level, debris-free area for the next step. Apply power to the mower making sure it is running
smoothly and at full speed before moving the skidsteer. Make sure mower runners are as close to the ground as
possible. Never raise the rear side of the mower higher than 6 inches above ground level.
6. Proceed mowing with care not to overload the mower. Brush volumes may vary and the mower may become over
loaded in dense stands. Simply slow down allowing the mower to reach full speed before resuming operations.
Raise front of mower slightly and move forward slowly to bend tree over when cutting larger diameter brush. Never
attempt to cut material more than 2 inches in diameter.
7. Stay alert for unexpected hazards and keep total control of both mower and skidsteer at all times.

7
Maintenance
The following maintenance instructions should be observed and completed to ensure long and continued good perfor-
mance of the Mow-Chip Rotary Brush Mower.
1. The following bolts should be torqued with a torque wrench. Motor bolts, gear box bolts and safety device bolts.
Check these bolts after 4 hours of operation and at appropriate times thereafter.
2. Nuts on stumpjumper and bar must be torqued tightly every 8 to 16 hours. Tighten castle nut which holds
stumpjumper or bar to lower end of gearbox. Torque tightly.
3. Maintain correct lubricant levels by making regular check of gearbox prior to the operation of the mower. SAE 80-
90 gear lubricant is recommended. Check lubricant levels on side of gearbox where pipe plug is located. Lubricant
should be the same level as the plug. Do not overfi ll, excess lubricant can damage gearbox seals.
4. Sound sharp mower blades are vital to proper function of the mower:
- By regular inspection of blades, operator should ensure blades are sharp, free of chipping and tightened.
- Blades must be replaced in pairs.
- Blades must not be welded or straightened.
- Damaged blades may create vibration and dangerous conditions and mower function.
Maintenance Checklist
The following is an extremely important list that should be carried out on a regular schedule:
□
Blades
Check before each use for damage or bending. Replace if necessary, in pairs only. Do not attempt to weld or
straighten blades.
□
Shaft
Inspect shaft regularly for foreign material and remove if present.
□
Bolts and Nuts
Extremely Important: Make sure skidsteer is shut off prior to the following step.
- Remove blade bolt cover and check that blade bolts are securely tightened.
- Torque all bolts tightly.
- Blade bolts should be checked every 6 hours.
- All bolts should be checked regularly, replaced if damaged, and retorqued tightly.
□
Gearbox
Check lubrication level regularly and ensure correct level is maintained. Recommended gear lubricant is SAE 80-
90 weight gear lubricant.
