GENERAL SAFETY RULES
WARNING!
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS
Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in
serious injury.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
WORK AREA
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite
accidents.
Do not operate this Spot Weld Drill in explosive atmospheres, such as in the pres-
ence of flammable liquids, gases, or metallic dust. This Drill may create sparks
which may ignite fumes.
1.
2.

Page 3SKU 96314 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353.
Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating. Distractions can cause
you to lose control. Protect others in the work area from debris such as metal frag-
ments, and sparks. Provide barriers or shields as needed.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating. Do
not use this Spot Weld Tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or
medication. A moment of inattention while operating may result in damage to your
project and/or serious personal injury.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your
hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long
hair can be caught in moving parts.
Avoid accidental starting. Be sure the Throttle Lever (5) is in off position (full up)
before attaching air supply. Carrying power tools with your hand on the Throttle
Lever (5), or attaching an air supply with the Throttle Lever (5) depressed invites
accidents.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and
balance enables better control of the Spot Weld Drill in unexpected situations.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, nonskid safety
shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
Always wear ANSI-approved safety goggles and a dust mask/respirator under full
face shield when using or performing maintenance on this Spot Weld Drill.
TOOL USE AND CARE
Use clamps (not included) or other practical ways to secure and support the work-
piece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable
and may lead to loss of control.
Do not force the action of the Spot Weld Drill and always use the correct tool for your
application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it
is designed. Do not force any tool and do not use any tool for a purpose for which
it is not intended.
Do not use the power Spot Weld Drill if the Throttle Lever (5) is in full up position and
the Drill does not off, or if it will not turn on, or off. Any tool that cannot be controlled
with its Power Switch is dangerous and must be replaced.
Disconnect the Spot Weld Drill from its air supply source before making any adjust-
ments, changing accessories, or storing. Such preventive safety measures reduce
the risk of starting the tool accidentally.

Store the idle Spot Weld Drill out of reach of children and other untrained persons.
Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Never allow children to come
in contact with this product.
Maintain the Spot Weld Drill with care. Keep bits sharp and clean. Properly main-
tained tools are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Do not use a damaged
tool. Tag damaged tools “Do not use” until repaired.
Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other
condition that may affect the Drill’s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced
before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.
Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used
on another tool.
SERVICE
Service on this Spot Weld Drill must be performed only by qualified repair person-
nel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a
risk of injury.
When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the
“Inspection, Maintenance, and Cleaning” section of this manual. Use of unauthor-
ized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of damage
to the Spot Weld Drill, and/or personal injury.

Maintain a safe working environment. Make sure there is adequate surrounding
workspace.
Avoid unintentional starting. Make sure you are prepared to begin work before con-
necting the air supply and/or turning on the tool.
Never lay the tool down until it has come to a complete stop. Moving parts can grab
the surface and pull the tool out of your control.
Never leave the Spot Weld Drill unattended when it is plugged into an air supply.
Detach it from its air supply before leaving.
Keep hand clear of throttle lever while connecting air supply.
Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construc-
tion activities, contains chemicals known [to the State of California] to cause cancer,
birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
Lead from lead-based paints
Crystalline silica from bricks and cement or other masonry products
Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of
work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area,
and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are spe-
cially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
(California Health & Safety Code § 25249.5, et seq.)

Compressor
NOTE: For best service you should incorporate an oiler, regulator and in-line filter (none
of which are included) as shown in Figure 1. Hoses, couplers, oilers, regulators,
and filters are all available at Harbor Freight Tools.
NOTE: If you are not using an automatic oiler system as shown in Figure 1, add a few
drops of pneumatic tool oil (not included) to the airline connection. Add a few drops
after each hour of continual operation.
Prepare a 1/4” air connector (not included) by wrapping the threads with plumbers
tape before connecting to the Air Inlet Bushing (1) on the bottom of the Spot Weld
Drill. Thread the Air Hose from your compressor to the Spot Weld Drill at the Air
Inlet Bushing (1).
Set the air pressure on your compressor to 90 PSI. Do not exceed 90 PSI.
Frequently check the air connections to make sure they remain secure.
NOTE: Be sure to follow all manufacturers warnings, notes, and operation instruc-

Keep your hands away from the Throttle Lever (5) while you attach the air supply
at the Air Inlet Bushing (1). Test by squeezing the Grip Handle (55) engaging the
Throttle Lever (5) until the Drill motor starts. Make sure you can start and completely
stop the Drill using the Throttle Lever (5). See Figure 2.
CAUTION! Be sure both pieces of metal to be drilled are secured in place before
attempting to remove the weld.
Set the Adjusting Screw (57) for the depth of the weld. The Drill Bit (49) can be
set to drill through only one piece, or through several pieces of metal. Turning the
Adjusting screw (57) clockwise reduces the depth of the hole drilled, counterclock-
wise increases that depth. Adjust the depth so that the drill bit does not contact
the Anvil (50).
Center the Spot Weld Drill over the weld you wish to drill out. Squeeze the Grip
Handle (55) engaging the Throttle Lever (5) enough to touch the weld with the tip
of the Drill Bit (49). If you are certain the Drill Bit (49) is correctly aligned, squeeze
the Grip Handle (55) and Throttle Lever (5) all the way and drill out the weld.
