FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS: All operang and use instrucons
should be followed.
CLEANING: Unplug this product from the mains before
cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp
cloth for cleaning.
WATER AND MOISTURE: Do not use this product near water
- for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or
laundry tub, in a wet basement; or near a swimming pool
and the like. The product must not be exposed to dripping
or splashing and no objects lled with liquids, such as vases,
shall be placed on the product.
HEAT: The product should be situated away from heat
sources such as radiators, stoves, or any other products
(including ampliers) that produce heat.
VENTILATION: Slots and openings in the cabinet are
provided for venlaon, to ensure reliable operaon of
the product and to protect it from overheang and these
openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings
should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed,
sofa, rug or similar surface. This product should not be
placed in a built-in installaon such as a bookcase or rack
unless proper venlaon is provided or the manufacturer’s
instrucons have been adhered to.
OBJECT OR LIQUID ENTRY: Never push objects of any kind
into this product through openings as they may touch
dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could
result in a re or electric shock.
ACCESSORIES: Do not place this product on an unstable
cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table. The product may fall,
causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage
to the product. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket
or table recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with
the product. Any mounng of the product should follow
the manufacturer’s instrucons, and should use a mounng
accessory recommended by the manufacturer.

MOVING THE PRODUCT: A product and cart
combinaon should be moved with care. Sudden
stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may
cause the product and cart to overturn.
POWER SOURCES: This product should be operated only
from the type of power source indicated on the marking
label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your
home, consult your product dealer or local power company.
For products intended to operate from baery power, or
other sources, refer to the operang instrucons.
OVERLOADING: Never overload wall outlets, extension
cords, or integral convenience receptacles. This can result in
an increased risk of re or electric shock.
POWER CORD PROTECTION: Power supply cords should be
routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched
by items placed upon or against them, paying parcular
aenon to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and
the point where they exit from the product.
NAKED FLAMES: No naked ame sources, such as candles,
must be placed on this product.
LIGHTNING: For added protecon for this product during
a lightning storm, or when it is le unaended or unused
for long periods of me, unplug it from the wall outlet and
disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent
damage to the product due to lightning and power-line
surges.
BATTERIES: Warning : Baeries shall not be exposed to
excessive heat such as sunshine, re or the like.
CAUTION! POLARISED CONNECTOR (CANADA and USA):
To prevent electrical shock, match wide blade of plug to
wide slot, fully insert. Do not alter or remove this plug if it
does not t your mains power socket. Have a suitable socket
installed by a competent electrician.
ACCESS TO THE MAINS PLUG: The means to disconnect this
product from the mains supply is the mains plug. Ensure
that the mains plug is accessible at all mes.
ATTACHMENTS: Do not use aachments not recommended
by the product manufacturer as they may cause hazards.

Laser product Servicing:
Do not aempt to service this product yourself as opening
or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage
or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualied service
personnel.
CONDITIONS REQUIRING SERVICE: Unplug this product
from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualied service
personnel when:
When the power supply cord or plug is damaged.•
If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the •
product.
If the product has been exposed to rain or water.•
If the product has been dropped or damaged in any •
way.
If the product does not operate normally by following •
the operang instrucons. (Adjust only those controls
that are covered by the operang instrucons. Improper
adjustment of other controls may result in damage
requiring extensive work by a qualied technician to
restore the product to its normal operaon).
When the product exhibits a disnct change in •
performance.
REPLACEMENT PARTS: When replacement parts are
required, be sure the service technician has used
replacements specied by the manufacturer or have the
same characteriscs as the original part. Unauthorised
substuons may result in re, electric shock, or other
hazards.

to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety
checks to determine that the product is in proper operang

This label on the rear panel
tells you that the unit contains
a Laser component. Opening
this unit will expose the user to
radiaon from the laser beam.
Power supply:
The moulded IEC connector of the AC cord supplied plugs
into the power inlet f on the rear of the unit.
The mains supply requirement is marked on a label on the
rear panel. Before connecng, check that this voltage is the
same as your mains supply.
230V Products: Voltage Range 220V-240V
115V Products: Voltage Range 110V-120V
If you move to an area with a dierent mains voltage,
contact your local Cyrus distributor to have your product
converted.
There are no user replaceable fuses in this unit.

installaon. They provide full guidance to help you install
your CD player safely and correctly.
Preparations for Installation
Before installing the CD i check that the following items are
included in the accessory box.
AC Mains Cable•
Remote Control Handset•
2 x Phono leads for MC-BUS connecon•
Aer removing these items, please retain the packaging.
Install the CD i in a well venlated locaon away from sources
of high temperature, dust or humidity. Never stand the CD
i under another unit or on any surface likely to hamper its
cooling or venlaon.

Connecting to the AC Mains Supply
Connect the socket on the AC Power cable to the AC Power
inlet f on the rear panel of the CD i. Now connect the cable
to a suitable AC power point.
There is no mains power switch on the CD i. To switch o
the mains supply to the CD i remove the plug from the
wall outlet. For this reason, ensure that the plug is easily
accessible when installing the unit.
Connecting to the System Amplier
Connect a suitable stereo RCA phono interconnect to the
audio output sockets b of the CD i and the corresponding
input of the amplier or receiver. Amplier inputs suitable
for this purpose are CD or AUX inputs.
Dual outputs are provided for convenient connecon
to mulroom units or for direct connecon to tape/disc
recorders etc.
DO NOT connect the CD i to the PHONO input of the amplier,
as this could damage your amplier or speakers.
Connecting a Digital amplier or External
D/A converter
The CD i provides a digital output to connect to a digital
amplier or D/A converter. Using a digital interconnect,
connect the DIGITAL OPTICAL c or DIGITAL COAXIAL d
output to the digital input of an amplier or D/A converter.
The DIGITAL COAXIAL connecon is recommended where
this connecon is available.
NOTE: The digital output of the CD i is only compable with
digital inputs. It is not suitable for connecon to an analogue
amplier.
Connecting a Cyrus PSX-R
The Cyrus PSX-R is a high quality regulated power supply, the
use of which will elevate your CD i into a true world-class
state-of-the-art product.
The connector ed to the umbilical cable from the PSX-R
must be securely connected to the PSX-R socket eon the
rear of the CD i. When correctly ed, the connector will
latch into the socket.
NOTE: The PSX-R power supply and the CD i will both require
connecon to the mains supply.
NOTE: Connecon of a PSX-R is detected automacally, so
no internal adjustments are required.
MC-Bus System Connection (Optional)
By using the MC-BUS connecon on your CD i, a highly
funconal integrated system with full remote control may
be set up. This feature is usable if you own a Cyrus amplier.
Refer to the relevant product handbook for MC-BUS wiring
instrucons.

Switching On
The mains power to the CD i should normally be le on
unless le unaended for a long period when the mains
power at the wall socket should be switched o or the
product disconnected from the AC supply.
When power is applied, the STANDBY key b is used for
power control. The Standby light cshows red when the CD
i is in Standby and green when operaonal.
Loading a Disc
Before loading a disc, check that the display reads ‘No Disc’,
indicang that a disc is not already loaded. To load a disc,
hold the disc label side upwards and place it gently into the
CD Loading Slot. Once a third of the disc is loaded, the disc
will be automacally loaded through the front panel. The
display will show ‘Reading’ while checking the contents of
the disc.
Playing a Disc
Press the PLAY/PAUSE key 1@ on the front panel. Playback
will commence from track 1 unless otherwise selected.
Pausing
Press the PLAY/PAUSE key 1@ to pause the current track. The
disc will be held at the precise point of interrupon and
the PAUSE symbol will show on the display. Press the PLAY/
PAUSE key 1@ again to resume playing the disc.
Fast Forward/Reverse
The SEARCH FORWARD hand SEARCH REVERSE i keys may
be used to locate a specic point within a track. The search
will commence inially at a slow speed increasing aer a
few seconds if the key is held down.
The Search keys will also search through next or previous
tracks if held down long enough.
Previous/Next Track Selection
Pressing the NEXT 1) or PREVIOUS 1! keys allow you to
change forward or backward through the tracks on the CD.
Track indicaons appear on the display.
Repeat
The REPEAT key g can be used to replay the enre disc or
programmed tracks.
When REPEAT is selected, its symbol shows on the display.
Press the key a second me to clear Repeat.
If a program selecon has been stored, the REPEAT key g
will allow connuous play of this program sequence.
Stop/Eject Key
When a disc is playing, press the STOP/EJECT Key fto stop
the disc immediately.
If the disc is already staonary, one touch of the STOP/EJECT
key f will eject the CD.

Program Memory Storage
The CD i has two program modes – Program and Exclude.
Program sets the CD i to play the sequence of tracks you
like, Exclude sets the CD i to skip the tracks you don’t like.
To set the CD i to Program or Exclude a selecon of tracks,
follow this sequence-
Load a disc.1.
Press the MEMORY STORE key on the remote control 2.
once to set Program mode (the display will read ‘Enter
Tracks’) or twice to set Exclude mode (the display will
read ‘Skip Tracks’).
Enter the sequence of tracks to be stored (or skipped) 3.
with the remote control numeric keypad. A maximum
of 30 tracks may be stored in the program memory. If
an error is made in the programming sequence, pressing
the STOP/EJECT key will cancel the last entry.
When all the tracks have been stored, press the MEMORY 4.
key again (the display will now read ‘Program Ready’.
Press play to begin playing the tracks in the programmed 5.
sequence.
NOTE:
‘MEMORY FULL’ indicaon will show on the display 1.
when the program stored exceeds 30 tracks or a stored
program me of 100 minutes or greater.
When engaging STOP while a program is stored, an extra 2.
press is needed to clear the memory. Thus:
Press STOP/EJECT once to stop the disc.•
Press STOP/EJECT a second me to clear the •
memory.
Press STOP/EJECT a third me to eject the CD.•
One connuous press will accomplish all operaons.•

REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION
Remote control introducon:
The iR14 remote control will send commands to Cyrus
ampliers, CD players and Audio streamers*.
The remote control can also be programmed with the
commands from two other remote control handsets. These
will normally be for your TV and a Satellite or terrestrial TV
set-top box, programmed to the TV and SAT buons, but
could also be other audio components such as a Cyrus tuner
or DVD player etc.
*NOTE: It may be necessary to upgrade the rmware in
an Audio streamer to enable Infra-red remote control
operaon.
Remote control backlight:
The remote control keypad includes a back-light. The back-
light will switch on automacally when moved or when a
command is sent.
Fing baeries to the remote control:
The baery compartment is on the back of the remote
control.

Cyrus amplier commands
Press the CYRUS key to set the remote control to Cyrus •
mode.
You can now control the Cyrus amplier. The CYRUS key
will ash red when commands are being sent in Amplier
mode.

Learning TV and Satellite commands
In addion to controlling Cyrus components, the remote
control can learn the commands from two other remote
control handsets. These will normally be a TV and a Satellite
or terrestrial TV set-top box, programmed to the TV and
SAT buons, but could also be other audio components
including a Cyrus tuner or DVD player etc.
All keys may be programmed with the excepon of the
groups marked CONTROL and SOURCE and the SETUP key.
Preparaon for learning:
Check the following points before aempng to learn any
commands -
Check that both remote controls have fresh baeries.•
Choose a locaon on a tabletop that is not brightly lit. •
Subdued light is beer, away from bright natural or
indoor lighng.
Check that you have enough me to spare to complete •
the learning process for all the keys you want to use.
Learning commands:
In this example, the Cyrus remote control will be learning
commands from a ‘reference’ Satellite receiver remote
control.
Set the two remote controls up facing each other, spaced 1.
by about 5cm.

seconds, the mode key will light red again. This indicates
that the remote control is ready to learn codes.
Release the SETUP key.4.
The remote control is now waing to learn commands. The
keypad will light connually and the mode key will light pale
red.
On the reference remote control, press and hold the rst 5.
key you want to learn (for example, volume up) unl the
mode key ashes red.
This indicates that the command has been received.
Release the key on the reference remote control.6.
Press a key on the Cyrus remote control (volume up 7.
in this example) to select where you want to save that
command.
The mode key will stop ashing. This indicates that the
command has been saved successfully.
If the learning process was successful, the remote control
will be ready to learn the next command.
Repeat steps 5 to 7 for each command you want to 8.

Checking programmed commands:
Select the mode that you just programmed and check •
that the commands were learned successfully.
NOTE: The TV or SAT mode key should ash red when
sending a command. If the mode key is not ashing, then
the command has not learned correctly.
Make a note of any commands that have not programmed •
correctly and repeat the learning process to add these
in.
NOTE: When you start the learning process it does not erase
any programmed keys so you can re-program individual keys
if required.
Problems with learning:
If none of the commands have learned correctly, try re-
starng the learning process again. Test a few keys rst
to ensure that your handset is compable for learning. If
the test works then connue to program the rest of the
commands you need.
If you sll have problems, check carefully that the mode
light is ashing correctly as you send a command to learn.
If not, it may be that the baeries need replacement in the
reference handset or that the spacing between the handsets
is not ideal. Try adjusng the spacing between the handsets
and repeang the learning process.
If you connue to have problems, it may be that your
handset is incompable with the learning process. This
could happen with an older design of handset or one that
has an unusual code-set.
Sending TV or SAT commands
Once you have programmed all the keys with the commands
you want, you can use the remote control to send commands
to your TV or Satellite receiver etc.
Press the TV or SAT key to select the mode you want.•
Press the command key.•
The mode key will ash red when sending a programmed
command.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
If your CD i is not operang properly, disconnect the power
and check all connecons using the notes in this handbook.
If problems persist, the checklist below may help.
If you are in any doubt, consult your dealer.
Disc Spinning with
no sound
Switch o the power to the audio
system and check that connecons
have been correctly made from
the CD i to the amplier.
If used with an external D/A
converter, check the connecon
from the ‘DIGITAL OUT’ socket
of the CD i to the D/A converter.
Check also that power is applied
to the D/A converter and amplier
and that the input selecon and
volume control of these units is
correctly set.
Pause may have been set. Check
for the pause symbol on the
display. Press the PLAY/PAUSE
key again on the front panel or
handset to cancel pause.
Skipping tracks or
distorted sound
The disc may be dirty or badly
scratched. Try playing another
disc. If the other disc plays ok, try
cleaning the 1st disc.
Indicaon ‘Disc
error’ on the display
The disc will not read. It may be
dirty or defecve.
No display The display may have been
switched o at the handset. Press
the display key again to restore
the display and backlight.
No Remote
Operaon
The handset may not be set to
control the CD i. Press the CD
buon and retry commands.
The handset baeries may need
to be replaced:
Remove the baery compartment
cover located underneath the unit.
Remove the baeries and replace
with new ones carefully nong the
orientaon marked in the boom
of the baery case.
The baeries in the unit should
only be replaced with new
baeries type AAA (I.E.C. LR03).
