The Pure Loudspeaker
Bass Engine: Heavy coils and
high quality correction
The Pure Cross-Over
Pure Product Manual
Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the Pure
loudspeaker. With this loudspeaker you have chosen for
a customised solution for both your sound, as your
design wishes.
This manual will inform you about the product
development and how to get the best out of your Pure
loudspeaker.
Development and Technology
The Pure was designed as the name suggests; a pure
musical loudspeaker without any other requirements than
the reproduction of music. The design criteria
emphasised on high quality sound in the complete audio
bandwith. Bass needed to be low enough to effectively
give a kick, though without boom. A 3-way floorstander in
a neutral black colour was chosen. The cabinet is
originally built by OLS, the designers of the famous
Kharma speaker brand.
The setup
The Pure features a 3 way vented design with series
cross-over. The units, cabinetry, cross-over components
soldering and cabling are all of highest quality.
The Cabinet
The cabinet is made out of 20-25 mm MDF/particle board
sandwich construction with bracing. The cabinet’s interior
is lined with thick felt to achieve optimal damping. The
particle board/MDF combination gives an excellent
combination for the damping and distribution of the
frequencies. This way, the cabinet does not add to the
sound at all. Adding up to a total of over 60 Kg per
speaker.
Woofer
The Eton 11-581 HEX 11” woofer is renowned for its
perfect reproduction of bass. For Edgar Audio, this is
currently the ultimate woofer. Though expensive, it gives
the designer the opportunity to create a loudspeakers
that provides the musical fundament without being
annoying in the lower frequencies. The Hexacone
Nomex sandwich cone needs some special attention in
the midrange of the cross over, but provides excellent
bass. This driver can be found in Kharma, Avalon and
the GeerS Provenance loudspeakers.
Midrange
The Thiel & Partner C
2
-79 T6 is the ultimate midrange.
While its ceramic cone provides crystal clear midrange,
the typical cone break-ups are taken care of by the little
ears the units carries.

Tweeter
The Scan Speak D2904 9900 Revelator Silk dome
tweeter is a 28 mm silk tweeter that has a wide
dispersion an excellent detail. This tweeter, coming from
the Revelator series, provides the breath and depth a
high end loudspeaker need.
The Bass Reflex Vent
The flared vent is located on the front-baffle of the
loudspeaker. This means the speaker can be set-up
relatively close to the backwall. Also, mid-frequencies
that are radiated through the port are not all messed up
on the back of the speaker. This setup enhances clarity
and transparency. The vent, in combination with carefully
adjusted internal damping of the speaker, provides real
low energy output, without the typical booming bass so
often associated with vented enclosures.
The Cross Over
Designed for optimal integration between low-mid-and
high frequency response, the Pure is equipped with a
custom built series cross over. The cross over frequency
(-3 dB point) is @ 2.3 kHz. The whole crossover range is
within +/- 1 dB. The cross over uses only high quality
components. Mundorf Supreme and MKP Capacitors,
non-inductive metal oxide resistors, and matched Tritec
air core inductors and Mundorf low Rdc transformer core
coils with vacuum impregnation are all hard wired with
silver solder for undistorted signal processing.
Internal Wiring
Internal wiring was done with High Current OFC copper
cable for low, OFC speaker cable for mids and Teflon
insulated Silver plated OFC cable for highs. All
connections to the terminals and the speakers
themselves were soldered with Silver solder to ensure
long lasting performance without degradation
Connections
The Pure is fitted with gold plated 5-way binding posts
suited for single wiring. Due to the use of a series cross-
over, bi-wiring is no option.
Speaker Placement
The Pure is capable of presenting a stunningly true 3-D
image of the musical information. As a result of the very
good dispersion properties of the loudspeaker, and the
cross-over topology, imaging is very real, and music is
perfectly integrated in the soundstage. This effect is most
optimal when the loudspeaker is placed in the freely in
the room. However, the speaker is designed to perform
well when placed in the proximity of (back) walls.
However we advise you to keep the Pure away from
corners, as this wil ruin the imaging and tightness of the
sound. In that case you could have bought a low class
loudspeaker. We advise to place the speakers like the

speakers and the listeners head and a 1:0.6 distance
realtion between the backwall and the sidewalls. Slight
toe-in is advised, though we do not advice to have the
speakers “fire” directly at the listener. Please experiment
with optimal setup.
Picture: Advised speaker placement. The amount of bass can be tuned
by moving the speaker towards the backwall. Make sure the 1:0.6
relation is maintained.
Ideal listening height is the height of the tweeter.
Speaker Feet
We supply adjustable Cones with the Pure. Do not use
rubber isolation feet, as they will absorb energy is stead
of making use of energy, thereby reducing low frequency
output. Listening tests have shown the benefit from using
these cones.
Speaker Cabling and Cabling in General
The Pure, is capable of passing on all the changes in the
audio chain. Changes in equipment, placement can
easily be heard. The drawback of this is that poor
recordings will sound no better than… well… poor. The
Pure, like any other audio component benefits greatly
from good quality cabling. For cabling from Amplifier to
loudspeaker, we supply two lengths of MITerminator 2
speaker cable. Termination is done with gold plated
spades.
In general using sufficient cabling throughout your audio
chain may be very beneficial for your overall playback
quality. We strongly advise you to invest in quality
cabling to get the best out the Pure Loudspeakers. Edgar
Audio supplies not only speaker cabling, but also pure
silver low capacitance cotton insulated interlinks.
Miscellaneous
The Pure is hand built, and has undergone multiple
measurements, quality checks and listening sessions.
The Pure has played music for 14 days 24/7 before
shipment to the customer to ensure long term quality and
provide partial break in of units and electronic
components.

Warranty
With normal use, the Pure will provide decades of
musical enjoyment. We provide 5-year warranty for any
defect caused by faulty production. This warranty covers
labour, cabling and crossover parts as they were
installed new.
The drivers installed were not new, and not covered by
manufacturers warranty. Edgar Audio warranty does only
cover the labour cost for replacing a defective unit in the
warranty period. Parts costs are charged to the
customer.
As any electromechanical part, defects from the use of
too high powered or poor quality (clipping) amplifiers are
not covered in the warranty at all. Such defects are easily
identified by fried voice coils and lead wires. Also any
other defect that is the caused by misuse of the
loudspeaker (i.e. the use for dance parties, or opening
the loudspeakers’ enclosure) is not covered.
Please contact your dealer in case of any warranty claim.
