PRODUCT OVERVIEW
LIST OF FIGURES
The GC-WIFI300-SMT-01 is a fully certified, full featured, small form-factor, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi module
based on the Marvell 88MW300, which provides a wireless interface to any device with a Serial/SPI/
GPIO interface for data transfer. The GC-WIFI300-SMT-01 is a fully self-contained Wi-Fi solution for a
variety of applications. Marvell Software SDK provides most of the software functions you will need to
build your complete application all on this module.
The GC-WIFI-SMT-01 has 8M bytes of Flash storage that can be used with the special 88MW300
execute from Flash feature. This feature allows for many different software options like HomeKit,
Weave, Alexa support, and others.
GC-WIFI300-SMT-01 supports AP+STA wireless networking and Wi-Fi Direct mode. The GC-WI-
FI300-SMT-01 also provides wireless and remote firmware upgrades for all kinds of application re-
quirements. GC-WIFI300-SMT-01 supports a wakeup-on-wireless feature, which makes it a very
suitable solution for battery applications requiring low power save performance. The voltage for the I/O
can be altered to 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V.
The GC-WIFI300-SMT-01 employs the world’s lowest power embedded architecture. It has been
optimized for all kinds of applications, such as in-home automation, smart grid, handheld devices,
personal medical applications, industrial controls, and applications that have lower data rates and
transmit or receive data on an infrequent basis.
The GC-WIFI300-SMT-01 is available in a low-profile, 23.1x32.8x 2.7mm SMT module package that
can be easily mounted on a PCB with application specific circuits. Also, this module provides the
option to use either the built-in, on-board antenna or the external antenna that can be accessed using
the U.FL connector.

On-board Chip Antenna
The GC-WIFI300-SMT module provides an internal on-board chip antenna option. When selecting an
internal antenna, you shall comply with following antenna design rules and module location sugges-
tions:
• For PCB mounting, do not place components or GND plane in the RED area (8.3 x 18.4 mm);
• The antenna must be mounted away from any metal or other components by at least 10mm;
• The antenna can’t be shielded by any metal enclosure; All shields including plastic, shall be
mounted away from the antenna by at least 10mm;
Grid Connect recommends that the GC-WIFI300-SMT module be located as suggested in Figure 4 to
reduce interference with the antenna and wireless signal. Please contact Grid Connect to assist with
your initial development.

Device Handling Instructions (Module IC SMT Preparation)
1. Shelf life in sealed bag: 12 months, at <30℃ and <60% relative humidity (RH)
2. After bag is opened, devices that will be re-baked after 168 hours.
3. Recommend to oven bake with N2 supplied
4. Recommend end to reflow oven with N2 supplied
5. Baked required with 24 hours at 125+-5℃ before rework process for two modules, one is new
module and two is board with module
6. Recommend to store at ℃10% RH with vacuum packing
7. If SMT process needs twice reflow:
(1) Top side SMT and reflow (2) Bottom side SMT and reflow
Case 1: Wi-Fi module mounted on top side. Need to bake when bottom side process over 168
hours window time, no need to bake within 168 hours
Case 2: Wi-Fi module mounted on bottom side, follow normal bake rule before process
Note: Window time means from last bake end to next reflow start after 168 hours
