Chapter 1. Introducing the IBM Anyplace Kiosk
The IBM Anyplace Kiosk (see Figure 1) is acomprehensive and compact, touch
screen terminal for self-service applications. The rugged aspect of the 4836 makes
the product suitable for awide variety of uses, such as retrieving information,
listening to music, or watching multi-media presentations.
To view the model dimensions, see Appendix B, “Product dimensions,” on page 57.
Architecture and attributes
The IBM Anyplace Kiosk uses standard mobile technology within the design of a
customer service terminal. The typical configuration does not contain akeyboard or
mouse because all input is through the touch screen.
The IBM 4836 contains the following key attributes:
v12″(800 x600) or 15″(1024 x768) dual–bulb backlit TFT display (250 nits
brightness)
vInfrared touch-screen system
vPresence detector
vSealed display face that allows cleaning without the risk of fluids damaging the
chassis
vIntel
®
Celeron
®
MProcessor 320 (1.3 GHz)
vIntel 855GME mobile chip set
v2SO-DIMM DDR memory sockets. Base memory size is 256 Megabytes, with 2
Gigabtyes maximum memory
