Placement
Beforeyouinstall the HomeTheaterStandardinto yoursystem,reviewthe following
guidelinesto choosethelocationfor thecomponent.Thiswill facilitate a clean,trouble-
freeinstallation.
TheHomeTheaterStandarddoesqot requireanytype-ofspecialrackor cabinetfor
installation. Forthe dimensionsof yourHomeTheaterStandardseeSpecifications,on
pages56-57.
TheHomeTheater"S~andardrequiresat least twoinches(5 cm)of clearanceoneach
side andat least twoinches(5 cm)of clearanceabovethe componentto provide
adequateventilation. Further,the HomeTheaterStandardrequiresat least threeinches
(7 cm)of clearancebetweenotherconnectedcomponents.Forinstallations inside
cabinetry,extra ventilation maybenecessary.
AC POWER GUIDELINES
TheHomeTheaterStandardhassuperbregulation anddoesnot require a dedicated
ACcircuit. Avoidconnectionsthroughextensioncordsor multiple ACadapters.High
quality 15ampgroundedACstrips areacceptable.Highquality ACline conditionersor
filters maybeusedif theyaregrounded.
Power Cord
TheHomeTheaterStandardshouldbeusedonly with the powercord supplied. Contact
yourauthorizedKrell dealer,distributor, or Krell beforeusinganydevicesdesignedto
alter or stabilize the ACpowerfor the HomeTheaterStandard.

Performthe following stepsto makethe On-ScreenDisplay(OSD)viewableonyour
videomonitor.Thevideoformatandvideosignalsof the Ho_meTheaterStandardand
the videomonitorneedto matchbeforethe OSDis viewable.Thevideoformatof the
videosignal canbeset to either NTSCor PAL.

TheaterStandard’svideosignal output. Pressthe menukeyonthe handheld
remotecontrol to verify that the OSDis nowviewableonthe videomonitor.The
systemconfiguration mainmenuappearswhenthe video formatand video signals
betweenthe HomeTheaterStandardandyour video monitorare compatible.

TheHomeTheaterStandardprovidesa variety of connectionandoperationoptionsfor
outstandingmusicandcinemasoundtrackreproduction.Totakefull advantageof the

1. ConnectyourHomeTheaterStandardto the desiredanaloganddigital audio

2. ConfigureyourHomeTheaterStandard’sspeakervolume,input devices,andtrims
usingthe built-in, easy-to-folloWSystemSetupandConfigurationmenus.Step-by-

3. Reviewthe FrontPanel,BackPanel,andRemoteControldescriptionsfor information
oninput, zone,andmodeselections,speakeradjustment,input andoutput

Basic Operation
1 PowerButton.... ’-
Thepowerbutton switches the HomeVideoStandardfrom stand-by to operational
mode.
Note
Whenyoupoweroff while zone2 is selected, only zone2 turns off. Pressthe power
button or HTSkeya secondtime to poweroff the mainzone.
2 Power LED
Theblue powerLEDilluminates whenthe HomeTheater Standardis in operational
mode.
3 Stand-by LED
Thered stand-byLEDilluminates whenthe backpanel powerswitch (54) is. on,
indicating that the HomeTheaterStandardis in stand-by mode.Krell recommendsthat
the backpanelpowerswitch (54) remainin the up position at all times.
4 Infrared Sensor
Theinfrared sensor receives commandsfrom the HomeTheater Standard remote
control. For properremotecontrol operation, makesure the infrared sensoris not
coveredor obstructed.
Input Device Selection ButtonsandLEDs
Whenproperly configured, the HomeTheater Standardkeepstrack of eachdevice and
its associatedconnections. For example,DVDusesCoax1for digital audio, Composite1
for video, andS-1 for analogaudio. TheHomeTheaterStandardautomatically engages
the correct inputs whenyoupressa front paneldeviceselection button.
TheHomeTheaterStandardis equippedwith the following input selections, whichallow
you to select the device connectedto your HomeTheater Standard. TheLEDsabove
eachselection illuminates whenthat input is engagedandindicates the operatingzone.

beprogrammedto create different simulatedacousticenvironments.Thered LED

discs. Thered LEDilluminates whenthe HomeTheaterStandardis in the DolbyPro
Logic decodingmode.

Usethis buttonto select oneof threeavailabledynamicrangecompressionmodes:

24 BalanceButton
Pressthis buttonto adjustthemainleft/right speakerbalance.Thisbuttonconvertsthe
volumelevel controlsto balancecontrols.BAL0 in the front paneldisplaywindow
indicatesthe centerposition. Balancemaybeadjustedin .5 dBincrements,upto 6 dB.
Balancelevels areshownnumericallyonthe front paneldisplay. Thebalancelevel
buttonsrevertto their original functionsasmainvolumelevelcontrolsafter three
secondsof inactivity.
Individual ChannelButtons
Usethe Center,Rear,andSubbuttonsto changetaste trims (maketemporaryspeaker
outputadjustmentsof +/- 10dB). Thesetemporarychangesrevert to
0 dBwhena newdeviceis selectedor the systemis powereddown.Formore
