
OPERATINGPRECAUTIONS
Thisisapropane,direct-fired,forcedairheater.Itsintended
useisprimarilytemporaryheatingofbuildingsunder
construction,alterationorrepair.
Propaneisheavierthanair.Ifpropaneleaksfroma
connectionor fitting,itsinks tothe floor,collectingthere
withthesurroundingair,formingapotentiallyexplosive
mixture.Obviously,propaneleaksshouldbeavoided,soset
upthepropanesupplywithutmostcare.Readenclosed
OdorFadeandPropaneSheetforadditionalinformation
aboutdetectingpropaneleaks.Leakchecknewconnections
orreconnectionswithasoapandwatersolutionandfollow
allconnectioninstructionsherein.Also,askyourpropane
dealerforadviceonthepropaneapplicationandsupply
installationandaskhimtocheckitifthereareany
questions.
Thisheaterwasdesignedandcertifiedforuseasa
constructionheaterinaccordancewithANSIStandard
Z83.7/CGA2.14-2000.Checkwithyourlocalfiresafety
authorityifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutyourapplications.
Otherstandardsgoverntheuseoffuelgasesandheat
producingproductsinspecificapplications.Yourlocal
authoritycanadviseyouaboutthese.
Direct-Firedmeansthatallofthecombustionproducts
entertheheatedspace.Eventhoughthisheateroperates
verycloseto100percentcombustionefficiency,itstill
producessmallamountsofcarbonmonoxide.Carbon
monoxide(calledCO)istoxic.Wecantoleratesmall
amountsbutnotalot.COcanbuildupinaheatedspace
andfailuretoprovideadequateventilationcouldresultin
death.
Thesymptomsofinadequateventilationare:
•headache
•dizziness
•burningeyesandnose
•nausea
• dry mouth or sore throat
So,besuretofollowadviceaboutventilationinthese
operatinginstructions.
ForcedAirmeansthatablowerorfanpushestheair
throughtheheater.Propercombustiondependsuponthis
airflow;therefore,theheatermustnotberevised,
modifiedoroperatedwithpartsremovedormissing.
Likewise,safetysystemsmustnotbecircumventedor
modifiedinordertooperatetheheater.
Whentheheateristobeoperatedinthepresenceofother
peopletheuserisresponsibleforproperlyacquainting
thosepresentwiththesafetyprecautionsandinstructions,
andofthehazardsinvolved.
SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
1. Checktheheaterthoroughlyfordamage.DONOToperate
adamagedheater.
2. DONOTmodifytheheateroroperateaheaterwhichhas
beenmodifiedfromitsoriginalcondition.
3. Useonlypropanegas.
4. UseonlyVAPORWITHDRAWALpropanesupply.Ifthereis
anyquestionaboutvaporwithdrawal,askyourpropane
dealer.
5. Mountthepropanecylindersvertically(shutoffvalveup).
Securethemfromfallingorbeingknockedoverandprotect
themfromdamage.
6. Locatepropanecontainersatleast(USA)7ft.(2.13m),
(Canada)10ft.(3m)from theheater and donot direct
exhausttowardcontainers.
7. IMPORTANTUseonlythehoseandregulatorassembly
providedwith theheater. Matchthe colorstripeonthe
hangtagattachedtothehoseassemblywiththecoloron
thelabel locatednearthepropaneinlet fittingonthe
heater.Inspecthoseassemblybeforeeachuseofthe
heater.Ifthereisexcessiveabrasionorwear,orhoseiscut,
replacewithhoseassemblylistedonpartslistbeforeusing
heater.

9. Ifatanytimegasodorisdetected,IMMEDIATELY
DISCONTINUEoperationuntilthesourceofgashasbeen
locatedandcorrected.ReadenclosedOdorfadeand
PropaneSheetforadditionalinformationaboutdetecting
propaneleaks.
10. Installtheheatersuchthatitisnotdirectlyexposedto
waterspray,rainand/ordrippingwater.
11. Maintainminimumclearancefromnormalcombustible
material(likepaper).Figure2
12. Duetothehighsurfaceandexhausttemperatures,adults
andchildrenmustobserveclearancestoavoidburnsor
clothingignition.
13. Operateonlyonastable,levelsurface.
14. Do not use with ductwork. Do not restrict inlet or exit.
15. Useonlytheelectricalpowerspecified.Theelectrical
connectionandgroundingmustcomplywithNational
ElectricalCode-ANSI/NFPA70(USA)andCSAC22.1
CanadianElectricalCode,Part1(Canada).
16. Useonlyaproperlygrounded3-prongreceptacleor
extensioncord.
