Instructions for use
Thank you for purchasing the Musical Fidelity M6 CD player.
The
M6CD is aCD player that
is
also useable as atop quality DAC for other digital sources. It features separately
selectable SPDIF and optical inputs
to
allow other digital sources such
as
DAB radio, Minidisk, DATetc.
to
take
advantage
of
the top quality up-sampling digital to analogue conversion circuits within. This will also free up analogue
inputs on the following amplifierand obtain the absolute best
in
audio quality from the digital source.
The
M6CD consists
of
atop quality CD loading mechanism with unsurpassed playability and atop quality up-
sampling 24 bit digital-to-analogue converter. This moves the digital artefacts
to
well outside the audio band, allowing
easy removal without detriment
to
the top end
of
the audio band. Our well tuned filtering circuit gives immeasurably
small jitter, noise and distortion artefacts allowing astounding imaging, detail and transparency,
to
deliver all music
types exactly
as
the artist originally intended.
There
is
also aseparately selectable USB input which can be used with any USB equipped computer
to
create a
great sounding multimedia jukebox capable
of
many hours continuous and unrepeated playback
of
audio media files
of
any format.
As
the signal is sent through the same up-sampling process as before; the sound quality
is
immensely
improved overthe
poor
quality output
of
the computer's analogue circuits.
The
M6CD
is
designed
to
be partnered with present and future M6 series products. This combination yields one
of
the best high-fidelity systems available
at
anyprice.
Used properly and carefully, it should give many years
of
outstanding musical reproduction.
Dust regularly with asoft duster
or
soft brush, but be careful when using cleaning
or
polishing agents -they may
harm the surface finish.
If
there are anyquestions about the audio system, please consult the dealer who is there to help and advise.

your dealer, who should then check the unit before further use. Entry of liquid into the M6CD is
dangerous, and may cause electric shock or fire hazard.
oDo not place the unit near direct heat sources such as radiators, direct sunlight or other equipment.
oDo not remove any covers or try to gain access to the inside. There are no internal adjustments or fuses you
can replace yourself. Refer all service work to

INSTALLATION
Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of the new M6CD player. This unit will give top quality performance when
used
as:
Atop quality CD player delivering the best performance possible from CD
Atop quality DAC (digital
to
analogue converter) for other sources with digital outputs such as DAB
radio, Minidisc,
OAT,
TV, etc. delivering the best audio performance using these sources
Atop quality USB DAC for

any computer audio/music files the computer can play.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the unit, switch off power at the mains switch and remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
Clean the cabinet and remote control unit using amoist cloth. Using solvents, white spirit or thinners is not
advised, as they could damage the surface finish.
Installation
Position the M6CD
on
astable, horizontal surface where there
is
no
risk of it being knocked, or subjected to
vibration such as from loudspeakers.
Important
note:
In normal operation, the
unit
dissipates
asmall
quantity
of
power
at all times, and it
is
important
that
it
is
adequately ventilated. The
top
and
bottom
are perforated
to
allow
the
smooth
flow
of
heat
through
the unit. It
is
therefore
not
recommended
that
the
unit
is
enclosed
in a
cabinet
or
placed
where
the
ventilation
holes
are impeded as
this
could
result
in excessive heat build-up.
The M6CD
must
be
protected
from
humidity
-
if
the
unit
is
moved
from
a
cold
place
to
a
warm
room, leave the
unit
for
an
hour
or
so
to
allow
sufficient
time
for
the
moisture
to
evaporate.
Power
Connections
The M6CD is supplied with astandard IEC mains cable which plugs into the IEC socket at the back of the unit
Audio
Connections

any software should now play through the M6CD. This device has been
designed to work with
PC
Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP as well as Apple Macintosh OS
X.
Please note:
This device
is
ahigh speed serial data processor, and
by
its nature, requires avery high volume
of
USB band
width. It will benefit greatly from being the only device connected on its USB 'bus'. Sharing the same bus with
other devices may cause unwanted artifacts such
as
dropouts or temporary loss
of
signal. This especially
includes the use
of
the M6CD on aUSB hub/splitteralongside other USB components
PC
users-
Check the computer has picked up the device and is currently using it by clicking: (most Windows versions)

Please note that due to "piracy" concerns, some record companies/pressing plants are creating disks that do not adhere
to
this standard. Such disks may

manufacturer. We advise
caution
in
using these disks,
as
the information contained therein has been deliberately manipulated and
can
cause
audio degradation and/or playability problems.
We also advise caution with using cheap and/or computer CD-RlRW disks for audio. To ensure optimum reliability and performance we
recommend all home-generated CDs intended for playback
on
this unit are recorded as CDDA AUDIO CDs (i.e.
not
MP3, WAV, etc.)
on
good
quality AUDIO grade CD-Rs.
Remember -the most vulnerable part
of
a
CD
playing system is the disc itself. The most likely cause
of
adisc not playing is that the disc itself is
faulty, scratched or simply dirty. Never open the case of the unit yourself,
as
this will invalidate the guarantee. If none
of
the above actions affect
acure, please contact your dealer or Musical Fidelity service agent.
