3. Staytwocutwidthsawayfromslopes,dropoffs,
ditchesandretainingwalls.
4. Topreventtippingorlossofcontrol,startandstop
smoothly,avoidunnecessaryturnsandtravelat
reducedspeed.
5. Immediatelyapplytheparkingbrakeifyoulose
steeringcontrolwhileoperating.Inspectthemachine
andcorrecttheproblembeforecontinuingtooperate.
6. Whenusinganyattachment,neverdirectthe
dischargeofmaterialtowardbystandersorallow
anyonenearthemachinewhileinoperation.
7. Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,withthe
operatorintheseat,disengagepowertothecutter
deck,placethesteeringcontrolleversintheneutral
positionandengagetheparkingbrake.
8. Ifthemowerdischargeeverplugs,shutoffthe
engine,removetheignitionkey,andwaitforall
movementtostopbeforeremovingtheobstruction.
WARNING
DO NOT use your hand to dislodge the clogged
discharge chute. Use a stick or other device to
remove clogged material after the engine has
stopped running and the blades have stopped
turning.
9. Bealertforholes,rocks,rootsandotherhidden
hazardsintheterrain.Keepawayfromanydrop-
offs.Bewareofoverheadobstructions(lowlimbs,
etc.),undergroundobstacles(sprinklers,pipes,tree
roots,etc.).Cautiouslyenteranewarea.Bealertfor
hiddenhazards.
10. Disengagepowertocutterdeckbeforebackingup.
Donotmowinreverseunlessabsolutelynecessary
andthenonlyafterobservationoftheentirearea
behindthemower.Ifyoumustmowinreverse,
maintainaconstantlookouttotherearofthe
machineandmowslowly.
11. DONOTturnsharply.Usecarewhenbackingup.
12. Disengagepowertocutterdeckbeforecrossing
roads,walksorgraveldrives.
13. Mowonlyindaylightorgoodartificiallight.
14. NEVERraisethedeckwiththebladesengaged.
15. Takeallpossibleprecautionswhenleavingthe
machineunattended,suchasdisengagingthe
mower,loweringtheattachments,settingtheparking
brake,stoppingtheengine,andremovingthekey.
16. Disengagepowertotheattachmentswhen
transportingorwhennotinuse.
17. Themachineandattachmentsshouldbestopped
andinspectedfordamageafterstrikingaforeign
object,anddamageshouldberepairedbefore
restartingandoperatingthemachine.
CAUTION
Do not touch the engine or the muffler while the
engine is running or immediately after stopping.
These areas may be hot enough to cause a
burn.
DANGER
DO NOT run the engine inside a building or
a confined area without proper ventilation.
Exhaust fumes are hazardous and contain
carbon monoxide which can cause brain injury
and death.
18. Keephandsandfeetawayfromcutterbladesand
movingparts.Contactcaninjure.
19. Transportthemowerusingaheavydutytrailer
ortruck.Insurethetrailerortruckhasallofthe
necessarylightingandmarkingsasrequiredby
laws,codes,andordinances.Secureatrailerwitha
safetychain.
20. Becautiouswhenloadingandunloadingontotrailers
ortrucks.Useonlyafullwidthramp.Rampangle
shouldbenomorethan15degrees.SeeFigure2-4,

21. Whentransportingthemower,makesurethepark
brakeisengaged,thesteeringcontrolleversarein
theneutralposition,theengineisoffwiththekey

cable,orropes.Bothfrontandrearstrapsmustbe
directeddownandoutwardfrommachine.
