Introduction
Overview
The AQ-300 SmartAntenna isatotalsolution GPS receiver,designed
based on SiRFStarII Architecture.TheAQ MaxGPStechnologyisa
lowpower(70mA), costeffectiveandeasy integration GPSsystem. This
positioningapplication meetsstrictneedssuchascarnavigation,
mapping,surveying, security, agricultureandsoon.
Onlyclearviewof sky andcertainpowersupplyarenecessarytothe
unit. It communicateswithotherelectronicutilitiesviacompatible
dual-channelthroughRS-232orTTLandsavescriticalsatellitedataby
built–inbackupmemory.AQ-300 tracks upto12 satellitesatatime,
reacquiressatellitesignalsin100msandupdatespositiondataevery
second.Asleepingmodewill savepowerconsumptiondramaticallyto
allowcriticallowpowerapplications.

Initialization
Assoonastheinitialself-test iscomplete,theAQ-300beginsthe
processof satelliteacquisition and trackingautomatically.Under
normalcircumstances, it takesapproximately45secondstoachievea
position fix,38 secondsifephemerisdataisknown.Afterapositionfix
hasbeencalculated,informationabout validposition, velocityandtimeis
transmittedoverthe output channel.
The AQ-300utilizesinitialdata, suchaslast storedposition,date,
timeandsatelliteorbitaldata, toachievemaximumacquisition
performance. Ifsignificantinaccuracyexistsinthe initialdata,orthe
orbitaldataisobsolete, it maytakemoretimetoachieveanavigation
solution.TheAQ-300Auto-locatefeatureiscapableof automatically
determininganavigationsolutionwithout intervention fromthe host
system.However,acquisitionperformancecanbeimprovedwhen the
hostsysteminitializestheAQ-300inthefollowingsituation:
1)Moving furtherthan 1,500kilometers.
2)Failureofdatastorageduetotheinactiveinternalmemorybattery.

(DGPS)solution.Thehost system,at itsoption,mayalsocommand
theAQ-300tooutput apositionwheneveradifferentialsolutionis
available.

2. ConnectAQ-300USBconnectortocomputer. Whilethecomputer
automaticallystartstheinstallationprogram,pleasedirectthedrivertothe
<AQ-300USB>folder.
3. Aftertheinstallationiscomplete,goto<DeviceManager>and select
<Ports(COM&LPT)>toverifyif avirtualCOMport <USBtoSerialPort>
wascreated.
Important
VerifytheCOMport#tostartusingyourownnavigating software.
1.Click <Start> menu, select <Settings>, thenenter<ControlPanel>.
2.Afterentering <ControlPanel>, select <System>.
3.Select <Device Manager>.
4.Findthe <ConnectPort> andcheck theVirtualCOMPort, whichwas
created bytheUSBdriver.Pleasenotethat the VirtualCOMPort
numbermightbe differentfromeverycomputer.Beforeusing
navigating software,pleaseconfirm theCOMPortnumberscreatedby
yourcomputerandprovided byyournavigationsoftware.Theymustbe
thesameComPortnumbers.Otherwise, the navigating softwarewon’t

2)ExecuteSiRFdemo.exe(ProgramisintheCD)
3)When“DataSourceSetup”shows, select the port (COM1, 2or3….)
you used,click “OK”.
4)Click “Action”, select“OpenDataSource.”Then youwill seelotsof
sentencesshow.All the sentencesstartwith$GPxxxx.ThisisNMEA
protocol.Ifyoudonotseethesesentences,pleaseclick “View”,
“SelectMessage”, thenclick “Development”.Themessagewill
appear. If it still showsnothing,thencontinuebelowsteps.
5)Thereisascreen“SelectionofTarget ReceiverSoftware”might appear,
pleaseselect “SiRFStarII”.
6)Click “Action.”Select “SwitchtoSiRFProtocol”.Thenyou will see
SiRFbinaryandthesentencesstart with#Time,showsevery4lines
andyoucannot seethesentencesstartwith$GP.Thesesentences
areforsettingorviewingtheGPSreceiver’sperformance.Ifyour
softwareisusingstandardNMEA protocol,pleasedothefollowing:
7)Click “Action.”Select “SwitchtoNMEA Protocol”.You will seeGGA,
GSV,GSA andRMCinblackandtheBaud Rateis4800.Theseare
thedefault weput insidethereceiver.Pleaseclick “OK”.Thenyou
can useitasastandardGPSreceiver.Ifyoursoftwareusesdifferent
sentences,pleasechoosethesentencesyouneed.
Afteraboveactions,thenewsettingwill bekept inSRAM.Ifno power
suppliedtoAQ-300formorethan30days,usermust resetagainwhen
poweron.
