1. Introduction
The Astek A41606-ENC, D60-6A utilizes two Gen2 Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) expanders
operating at 6Gbps with a sanitization algorithm that will sanitize up to 16 Self-Encrypting Drives
(SED) that support the Cryptographic Erase Functions “Key Erase” (SBC-3, Sections 5.24/2/4)
and “Block Erase” (SBC-3, Section 5.24.2.3).
The A41606-ENC, D60-6A provide a dual ported storage enclosure based on Astek’s innovative
SAS expander module, combined with a precision machined chassis, and a unique 'sled-less'
disk mounting mechanism, these enclosures can hold up to sixteen 2.5” hard disks.
The A41606-ENC provides two external SAS x4 wide-port input/output connections per expander,
with each wide port supporting up to 24Gbps of I/O. Each port can be connected either to a host
or another A41606-ENC, allowing system designers to cascade multiple enclosures to further
increase the total available storage.
2. Hardware Installation
CAUTION
Use proper ESD safety procedures whenever working with electronic
equipment or parts.
Step 1: Secure chassis in rack mount or free standing on a flat level surface so that it
cannot slide or move.

3. Cryptographic Erase
The Astek A41606-ENC, D60-6A has a sanitization algorithm that will sanitize up to 16 Self-
Encrypting Drives (SED) that support the Cryptographic Erase Functions “Key Erase”.
Key Erase” (SBC-3, Sections 5.24/2/4
Block Erase” (SBC-3, Section 5.24.2.3
To erase data from drives connect to the CLI using the serial port with connection speed of 38400
and parameters 8-N-1. A password is needed; the default is “expander”
The “santest” CLI command starts the erase process. It changes the encryption key stored in the
crypto drive, thus effectively performing an instant erase then does a block erase of the drive.

The A41606-ENC, 60-6A enclosure provides four fans to cool the board and chassis elements.
By default all fan outputs will be configured for full speed operation at start.
CAUTION
Do not operate the A41606-ENC, 60-6A continuously without sufficient
cooling. The default configuration does NOT support auto-shutdown due to
exceeding thermal limits, and as such, damage many occur to your board is
operated continuously without airflow.
