EUROLIVE B1520DSP
{1} Power is supplied vi n IEC connector. The m tching
c ble is provided with the unit.
{2} Use the POWER switch to turn on the B1520DSP. Before
connecting the unit to the power m ins, ensure th t the
POWER switch is in OFF position.
+Attention: The POWER switch does not fully
disconnect the unit from the mains. To disconnect the
unit from the mains, pull out the main cable plug or
appliance coupler. When installing the product, ensure
the plug or appliance coupler is readily operable.
Unplug the power cord completely when the unit is
not used for long periods of time.
{3} Use the LEVEL control to djust the sign l g in of the
MIC/LINE inputs. Before you connect or disconnect sign l
source to or from one of the inputs, ple se turn the
corresponding control fully to the left. Once the sign l
source is connected, incre se the volume s desired by
turning the control clockwise. Alw ys m ke sure th t the
CLIP LED {4} does not light up t ll or with sign l pe ks
only.
Line-level signals:
Devices with high output levels (e.g. the outputs of mixing
consoles or CD pl yers) only need little g in. In this c se,
the LEVEL control will mostly be positioned somewhere in
the re m rked "LINE" (left h lf of the control r nge).
Microphone signals
Low-level microphone sign ls need more g in. When
microphones re used, the control will be positioned in the
MIC re (right h lf of the control r nge).
+We would like to draw your attention to the fact that
extremely loud sound levels may damage your hearing
as well as your headphones/loudspeakers. Turn the
LEVEL control fully to the left before you switch on
the unit. Be careful to select a suitable volume at all
times.
{4} The CLIP LED lights up when the input sign l level is too
high. In this c se, turn the LEVEL control {3} to the left
until the LED goes out or only lights up t pe k levels.
{5} Use the MIC/LINE inputs (XLR connectors) for connecting
udio sign ls.
{6} The LINE OUT XLR j ck provides the sign l with no
ddition l g in pplied in order to connect nother
loudspe ker, for ex mple. The output sign l is mix of
both input sign ls. (See Ch pter 4.2 for more inform tion
on how to use sever l loudspe kers)
The B1520DSP is equipped with 2-b nd tone control. E ch
b nd llows you to pply m ximum boost/cut of 15 dB, in its
center position the equ lizer is set to neutr l.
{7} Use the EQ HIGH control to cut or boost the treble r nge
by 15 dB. The cut-off frequency is 12 kHz.
{8} Use the EQ LOW control to cut or boost the b ss r nge by
15 dB. The cut-off frequency is 100 Hz.
{9} The B1220DSP fe tures high-p ss filter with slope of
24 dB/oct. to elimin te unw nted low-frequency content,
such s pop sounds produced by h nd-held microphones,
or rumble or wind noise when using high-sensitivity
microphones. The LOW CUT control djusts the cut-off
frequency. If you w nt to use the B1520DSP in combin tion
with subwoofer, you c n use the high-p ss filter to lower
the b ss r nge reproduced by the subwoofer. This llows
you to oper te the B1520DSP even without n extern l
frequency crossover. Set the cut-off frequency to the
highest frequency th t c n be reproduced by the
subwoofer.
(10) The CONTOUR switch governs the dyn mic contour filter:
SPEE H
Setting the CONTOUR switch to SPEECH (switch not
pressed) will optimize the frequency response for speech
pplic tions. This ensures better intelligibility.
MUSI
Setting the CONTOUR switch to MUSIC (switch pressed)
will optimize the frequency response for music pl yb ck.

EUROLIVE B1520DSP
To void feedb ck, it is recommended th t you c refully select
nd direct the microphones used. B sic lly, you should use
microphones with high directivity, i.e. with c rdioid or hyper-
c rdioid pol r p ttern. Never hold microphone so th t its m in
pick-up re points directly tow rds the loudspe ker. When you
hold it with its less sensitive side tow rds the spe ker box, you
c n move closer to the spe ker.
+If you encounter persistent feedback problems,
consider using our proven FEEDBA K DESTROYER
PRO FBQ2496 for line-level signals. For signals with
line or microphone level, we recommend our
BEHRINGER SHARK DSP110.
4. Application examples
4.1 Presentations
With just one B1520DSP nd one or two dyn mic microphones,
you c n set up b sic udio system with very little effort. Th nks
to the built-in mixer section, you c n connect the microphones
directly to the B1520DSP. Mount the B1520DSP on spe ker
st nd for optimum present tion nd intelligibility of nnouncements.
If one B1520DSP is not enough, you c n, of course, use second
or even more loudspe kers.
onnecting microphones:
=Turn the LEVEL controls {3} fully to the left.
=Connect your microphones to the MIC/LINE inputs.
=Switch on the B1520DSP.
=Turn the LEVEL controls {3} gr du lly clockwise to set the
volume of your choice. Observe the CLIP LEDs while
dusting the volume. M ke sure they never shine const ntly
but only light up t pe k levels.
=Use the LINE OUT connector {6} to connect n (option l)
second B1520DSP.
+Never place a microphone directly in front of the
loudspeaker owing to danger of feedback! When
operating the B1520DSP make sure that you always
stay behind the loudspeaker to avoid feedback.
Fig. 4.1: Connecting microphones
(11) The TIMED TURNOFF switch ctiv tes the utom tic turn-
off function:
ON
When the switch is ctu ted (ON position), the utom tic
switch-off is ctive. The loudspe ker is turned off uto-
m tic lly when it receives no sign l for more th n 3
minutes. As soon s sign l is received, the loudspe ker
is switched b ck on.
OFF
If the switch is not ctu ted (OFF position) then the spe ker
rem ins switched on nd c n only be de ctiv ted vi the
POWER switch {2}.
(12) A noise-g te llows you to elimin te unw nted noise during
sign l p uses. This is done by circuit th t mutes the
output when the sign l level drops below preset threshold.
Use the NOISE GATE control to determine the threshold
below which the noise-g te closes.
(13) The TH LED lights up s soon s the sign l level drops
below the threshold v lue djusted with the NOISE GATE
control (12) (the noise-g te closes).
3. etting up the B1520D P
The sound of your B1520DSP l rgely depends on the room
coustics. Ple se observe the following hints to get the most
out of your B1520DSP.
3.1 Tweeter
High frequencies re the very p rt of the udio spectrum th t
ensure cle r perception of sound nd speech intelligibility.
Although these frequencies c n be loc ted most e sily, they
re lso the first to be blocked coustic lly. We therefore
recommend th t you set up your spe kers on spe ker st nds
(not included), so th t the tweeter r di tes its sign ls slightly
bove the he ds of the udience. This will ensure both n
optimum dispersion of the high-frequency content nd
consider bly improved speech intelligibility.
Fig. 3.1: B1520DSP mo nted on a stand
3.2 How to avoid feedback
Alw ys pl ce the microphones (viewed from the udience)
behind the B1520DSP, never in front of it (Fig. 3.2). When you
wish to djust the controls on the B1520DSP while holding
microphone, ple se ppro ch the loudspe ker from the re r to
void feedb ck.

4.2 PA systems
PA is short for "public ddress" nd includes ll pplic tions
th t involve l rger udience. This ex mple uses mixing
console s its centr l unit for system oper tion nd connections.
All microphones, feeding nd effects devices, etc. re connected
to the mixing console, which is then linked to the B1520DSP.
onnecting a mixing console:
=Turn the LEVEL controls {3} fully to the left.
=Connect the left output of the mixing console to the MIC/
LINE connector of the left loudspe ker, nd the right mixing
console output to the right loudspe ker.
=Switch on the B1520DSP.
=R ise the level of the mixing console output to level of
0dB.
=Turn the LEVEL controls {3} gr du lly clockwise to set the
volume of your choice. When the CLIP LEDs light up, this
indic tes th t the m ximum volume h s been re ched.
Fig. 4.2: Connecting a mixing console
Inste d of mixing console, you c n lso connect stereo sign l
source, e.g. CD pl yer. In this c se, one B1520DSP is
connected to e ch of the outputs of the sign l source.
onnecting a stereo signal source:
=Turn the LEVEL controls {3} fully to the left.
=Connect the left output of the stereo device to the MIC/LINE
connector of the left loudspe ker, nd the right stereo device
output to the MIC/LINE connector of the right loudspe ker.
=Switch on the B1520DSP.
=R ise the output level of the stereo sign l source (if
v il ble), ensuring th t it does not overlo d the input.
=Turn the LEVEL controls {3} gr du lly clockwise to set the
volume of your choice.
Linking several B1520DSP:
If you need more sound pressure, for ex mple in l rger rooms,
simply incre se the number of loudspe kers on e ch stereo
side. You could pl ce two B1520DSP on e ch stereo side nd
interconnect them (see Fig. 4.3). The loudspe kers c n be
st cked or pl ced one beside the other. When you st ck the
spe kers, the c rrying recesses built into the c binets ensure
the st bility of the st ck. You c n connect microphone, mixing
console or stereo sign l source.
=Connect the LINE OUT connector {6} of the first B1520DSP
to the MIC/LINE input of the next B1520DSP.
+With several B1520DSP speakers connected to each
other, their input impedance will be reduced by half
(two B1520DSPs), or to one third (three B1520DSPs),
etc. Always use the output impedance of the mixing
console as a basis for your calculations!

4.3 ther uses
Monitoring:
When used s monitor, the B1520DSP receives its udio sign l
from the monitor or ux output of the mixing console. If ddition l
B1520DSPs re to be used, you c n loop the udio sign l from
the first spe ker to the next B1520DSP using the line output.
The sound nd volume of e ch B1520DSP c n be djusted with
their own oper ting elements {3} (LEVEL), {7} (EQ HIGH) nd
{8} (EQ LOW).
Keyboard amplification:
Guit rists nd b ssists usu lly h ve their own mplifiers on st ge
to m ke sure they c n he r their own instrument - even when
no monitors re used. In p rticul r on sm ller st ges, the power
delivered by these mps is enough to m tch the volume
produced by other sound sources on st ge. Things re different
with keybo rds nd synthesizers s these usu lly h ve no built-
in spe kers. The B1520DSP llows you to connect nd mix two
keybo rds. If you w nt to pl y more th n two keybo rds, you
c n use submixer (e.g. MicroMIX MX400) to mix down the
sign ls nd route them to the B1520DSP using submixer output
connectors. The second MIC/LINE input c n be used to connect
the monitor sign l from the PA mixing console, so th t you c n
lso he r the other members of your b nd.
5. Installation
Both udio inputs nd outputs of the BEHRINGER B1520DSP
re fully b l nced. To m ximize interference compens tion, try
to est blish b l nced connections to other equipment, whenever
possible.
+Make sure that only competent people install your
B1520DSP. They must be sufficiently earthed during
and after the installation process. Otherwise,
electrostatic discharges may negatively affect the
operating characteristics of your equipment.
