Thank you for purchasing this CLARKE 12 volt DC, 1/2” Square Drive Impact Wrench.
Please read this leaflet thoroughly and follow the instructions carefully, in doing so you will
ensure the safety of yourself and that of others around you, and you can look forward to the
tool giving you long and satisfactory service.
GUARANTEE
This CLARKE product is guaranteed against faulty manufacture for a period of 12 months
from the date of purchase. Please keep your receipt as proof of purchase. This guarantee
is invalid if the product is found to have been abused or tampered with in any way, or not
used for the purpose for which it was intended.
Faulty goods should be returned to their place of purchase, no product can be returned to
us without prior permission.
This guarantee does not effect your statutory rights.
FEATURES
The Impact Wrench is for use with 12V vehicle systems ONLY, and provision is made for
connecting either directly to the vehicle battery or to the cigarette lighter socket found on
the dashboard of most vehicles.
The tool is operated by pulling a 2-way rocker switch at the hand grip which allows for
tightening or loosening of wheel nuts.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Ensure the ignition switch is in the OFF position before connecting the leads to the
battery or plugging in to the cigarette lighter socket.
• Ensure the connections at the battery are firm and that the battery posts are clean
and free from corrosion.
• Connect the clamp with the RED hand grips to the unearthed battery terminal first, (on
most vehicles this is the positive terminal and painted RED), then connect the clamp
with the black hand grips to the chassis or engine bolt, away from moving engine parts.
NOTE: If the battery clamps are connected in reverse, the wrench will operate in the
reverse direction.
• If the vehicle’s cigarette lighter fuse is less than 15 amps, you must connect the Impact
Wrench directly to the battery.
• Use the tool with 12 Volt vehicle systems ONLY.
• ALWAYS finish tightening wheel nuts with a torque wrench or suitable spanner.
• When tightening a nut or bolt, NEVER allow the wrench to impact more than 8 (eight)
times - to avoid over tightening.
• Keep the tool dry and well away from water.
• Use ONLY Impact Wrench sockets....DO NOT use standard sockets

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
A. LOOSENING A NUT
If you are changing a wheel, first jack up the vehicle according to the vehicles handbook,
and remove any wheel trim, then proceed as follows:
1. Switch OFF the vehicle ignition and insert the cigarette lighter plug into the socket at
the dashboard, or, connect the clamps across the battery and insert the cigarette
lighter plug, from the wrench, into the socket provided.
Connect the clamps according to the Safety Precautions above.
IMPORTANT: Check the cigarette lighters fuse rating in the vehicles handbook. If it is less than
15Amps, DO NOT use the cigarette lighter socket at the dashboard.
2. Switch the ignition ON and start the engine (to avoid unnecessary drain on the battery)
3. Select the appropriate socket and place firmly on the square drive of the Wrench.
4. Holding the wrench firmly in BOTH HANDS, pull the rocker switch at ‘L’ marked on the
casing. The torque will build up and impact the nut repeatedly until the nut is loosened.
B. TIGHTENING A NUT
1. Follow the same procedure as 1 to 3 above.
2. Pull the rocker switch at ‘T’, marked on the casing.
3. Run each nut up in turn until it is ‘nipped’ - do not tighten. When all nuts are nipped up,
tighten progressively by pulling the trigger and allowing the action to operate for 5 to
7 impacts, but no more than 8. This will prevent overtightening.
4. ALWAYS finish tightening with a torque wrench or suitable spanner.
TROUBLESHOOTING.
If the Wrench does not operate satisfactorily, check to ensure that ALL connections are firm.
Check to ensure the battery connections are clean and free from corrosion.
Check the fuse within the cigarette lighter type plug by unscrewing the knurled ring and
gently shaking out the fuse. If necessary replace the fuse with one of the same rating.
IMPORTANT: Take great care not to lose the spring within the plug.
