Chipper/Shredder Quick-Start Guide
1. The chipper/shredder comes with no gasoline or oil in the engine.
2. Required tools for assembly: two 13mm wrenches and pliers.
STEP 1:
Attach the support leg to the engine
mounting plate with two sets of M8x40 hex
bolts and M8 nylon lock nuts using two
13mm wrenches. Lock the support leg in
place with two lock pins. See Figure 1.
STEP 2:
Attach the wheel to the wheel axle with a
Ø12 flat washer and a Ø3x30 cotter pin.
Secure the cotter pin with the pliers.
Repeat step 2 to attach the second wheel.
See Figure 2.
STEP 3:
Attach the handle to the hopper with four
sets of M8x20 hex bolts and M8 nylon lock
nuts using two 13mm wrenches. See
Figure 3.
STEP 4:
Attach the hopper fence to the hopper with
six sets of M8x16 hex bolts and M8 nylon
lock nuts using two 13mm wrenches. See
Figure 4.
STEP 5:
Attach the tow bar to the engine mounting
plate using a lock pin. See Figure 5.
STEP 6:
Attach the bag support rod by opening it at
the hinge and sliding it into the bag rack.
Stick the flat part of the bag support rod into
the slot. See Figure 6.

STEP 7:
Attach the discharge bag to the discharge
port by inserting the bag support rod into the
rings on the discharge bag. See Figure 7.
Secure the opening of the discharge bag to
the discharge port by pulling the bag rope to
cinch the bag around the port.

Before starting the engine:
1. Add 18 oz of engine oil. For best machine performance, the manufacturer recommends using Kohler brand
engine oil. If Kohler brand is unavailable, other high-quality engine oil, class SJ or higher, are an acceptable
alternative. Please reference the chart below and select engine oil viscosity based on air temperature at the time
of operation.
2. Add gasoline.
Never add more than 0.53 gallons (2L) of gasoline to the engine. Always use clean, fresh, regular unleaded fuel with a
minimum 87 octane rating.
Engine Dials and Levers
1. The engine does NOT come with a separate on/off switch. Operators
must use the engine run speed control lever (the yellow lever shown in
photo) to turn the engine on and off.
2. To turn OFF the engine, move the control lever (yellow lever) to the far
right.
3. Moving the control lever (yellow lever) to the far left will choke the engine.
4. High engine speed is on the left (rabbit icon) and low engine speed is on
the right (turtle icon).
5. The red dial on the fuel line is used to turn fuel on and off. Fuel is off
when the red dial is perpendicular to the fuel line. Fuel is on when the red
dial is parallel to the fuel line.
Cold Engine Starts
1. Turn the fuel on by rotating the red dial so it is parallel to the fuel line.
2. Move the engine control lever (yellow lever) to the left “choke” position.
3. Pull the recoil handle out slowly one time and then allow the rope to retract normally. Then, pull the recoil handle
again with force and allow the rope to retract normally.
4. When the engine starts, gradually move the engine control lever to the right fast engine speed position (rabbit
icon) to increase the engine speed.
Restarting A Warm Engine (Does not normally require the use of the choke)
- Move the engine control lever to the fast engine speed position (rabbit icon). Pull the recoil handle out slowly,
but with force. Allow the rope to retract normally. Repeat the process of pulling the recoil handle and allowing
it to retract until the engine starts.
Normal Operating Speed: For normal shredding and chipping, set the throttle lever to fast (rabbit icon).
Idle Speed: When the machine is idling (not chipping or shredding), use the “slow” engine speed position (turtle icon)
on the engine control lever. Lowering the engine speed to slow (turtle) helps extend the life of the engine, conserves
fuel and reduces the noise level admitted from the chipper/shredder.
Chipper Operation: The chipper is designed to handle tree limbs and branches up to 3” in diameter. Inserting
material larger than 3” in diameter may cause damage to the machine.
Shredder Operation: The shredder is designed to shred light brush, leaves, and other soft organic material. Material
inserted in the shredder should never be larger than a ½ “in diameter. Inserting material larger than a ½” in diameter
may cause damage to the machine.
Only Use Dry Wood/Branches
Do not insert fresh, wet and/or live branches into the chipper/shredder as they will NOT be cut and may jam the machine.
Only insert dry wood/branches (i.e. branches that snap completely when bent) into the chipper/shredder for proper
machine functioning.
If the recoil handle will not pull, the machine may be jammed with wet and/or live branches.
- First, turn off the machine and remove the spark plug cap.
- Take off the back panel of the machine by removing the three nuts and the plate.
- With the plate removed any material tangled or jammed in the hammers will be visible.
- Carefully clear out any jammed material and replace the plate.
NOTE: CHOCK THE WHEELS BEFORE OPERATING THE CHIPPER/SHREDDER.
Always add engine oil
and gasoline before
starting the engine.
Do NOT attempt to start the engine
before adding oil to the engine. The
engine is shipped without engine oil.
