PREPARATION
•Thoroughlyinspectthe areawherethe equipmentisto beused.Remove
all rocks,bottles,cans, orotherforeignobjectswhichcould bepickedup
or thrownandcausepersonalinjuryor damagetothe machine.
,, Alwayswearsafetyglassesorsafetygogglesduringoperationor while
performinganadjustmentor repair,to protecteyes.Thrownobjects
whichricochetcancauseseriousinjurytothe eyes.
•Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoesandclose-fittingslacksand shirts.
Loosefitting clothesorjewelrycanbe caughtin movableparts. Never
operatethismachinein barefeetor sandals.Wearleatherworkgloves
whenfeedingmaterialinthe chipperchute.
•Beforestarting,checkall boltsandscrewsforpropertightnessto be
surethe machineisin safeworkingcondition.Also,visuallyinspect
machinefor any damageatfrequentintervals.
•Maintainor replacesafetyand instructionslabels,asnecessary.
•To avoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein
handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare
explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineisspilledon
yourselforyourclotheswhichcanignite.Washyourskinandchange
clothesimmediately.
•Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.
•Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipes,andothersourcesof ignition.
•Neverfuel machineindoors.
•Neverremovegascapor addfuelwhilethe engineishot or running.
•Allowenginetocoolatleasttwominutesbeforerefueling.
•Neveroverfillfuel tank. Filltankto nomorethan 1/2inchbelowbottom
offiller neckto providespacefor fuelexpansion.

•Ifgasolineisspilled,wipeit offthe engineandequipment.Move
machineto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingthe engine.
•Neverstorethe machineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethere isan open

andcuttingchamberareemptyandfreeofall debris.
,, Thoroughlyinspectallmaterialtobeshreddedandremoveanymetal,
rocks,bottles,cans,or otherforeignobjectswhichcouldcause personal
injuryor damageto the machine.
,, Ifit becomesnecessarytopush materialthroughthe shredderhopper,
usea smalldiameterstick. Donotuseyourhandsor feet.
,, Ifthe impellerstrikesaforeignobjector ifyour machineshouldstart
makinganunusualnoiseorvibration,immediatelyshutthe engineoff.
Allowthe impellerto cometoa completestop.Disconnectthesparkplug
wire,groundit againsttheengineandperformthefollowingsteps:
1.Inspectfor damage.
2.Repairor replaceanydamagedparts.
3.Checkfor anyloosepartsandtightentoassurecontinuedsafe
operation.
. Do notallowanaccumulationofprocessedmaterialto buildupinthe
dischargearea.This canpreventproperdischargeand resultin kickback
ofmaterialthroughthefeedopening.
,, Do notattempttoshredor chipmateriallargerthan specifiedonthe
machineor inthis manual.Personalinjuryor machinedamagecould
result.
,, Neverattempttounclogeitherthefeedintakeor dischargeopening
whilethe engineis running.Shutthe engineoff, waituntilall moving
partshavestopped,disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgrounditagainst
theenginebeforeclearingdebris.

anydamageand repair,if needed.

TO AVOID SERIOUS iNJURY:
Do not operate on uneven ground where unit is
unstable. Do not operate on pavement, gravel or
other hard surfaces since objects can ricochet
and cause injury.
To avoid a fire hazard, keep leaves, grass, and other
combustible materials away from hot engine and
muffler.
Keep children and others away from area of
operation.
Wear approved safety glasses, gloves and ear
protection.
ROTATING CUTTING BLADES.
TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY:
• Read the owner's manual(s) before starting and
using unit.
Keep all shields and guards in place and securely
attached.
Keep hands, feet, face, clothing and long hair out of
Shredder Hopper, Chipper Chute and Discharge
Chute while the engine is running. Rotating cutting
blades inside these openings will cause serious
personal injury if contacted. Material being
_rocessed
may bounce back from inlet openings or be thrown
from the discharge chute. Long hair or loose clothing
may be pulled sucked into the inlet openings.
.Do not place branches over 1/2 inch diameter into
the large Shredder Hopper. Branches over I/2 inch in
diameter should be placed in the Small Chipper
Chute.
.If the chipped shredder jams or becomes clogged,
immediately shut off the engine and wait for all
moving parts to come to a complete stop before
clearing.
.Do not install remove, adjust, or service the
discharge screen or any other part while the engine
is running. Blade contact can occur.
KEEP HANDS AND FEET OUT

1. Cuteachcornerofthecartonverticallyfromtopto bottom.
2. Removeall looseparts.

Alwayswearthesafetyglassesprovidedwiththisunitor eyeshields
beforechippingor shreddingandwhileperforminganyadjustments
or repairs.
THROTTLE CONTROL
Thislevercontrolstheenginespeedandstopfunction.Throughthree
separatepositionsontheleverfromlefttoright,theoperationisas
follows:
Start/Run Slow/Idle EngineOff
CHOKE CONTROL
Thechokecontrolisusedto chokethecarburetorandassistinstarting
theengine.
Chippedandshreddeddebrisisdischargedoutthechutedeflector.

1. Removeoil filldipstick.
2. Withthechippershredderon levelground,usea funneltoempty
entirecontentsofoil bottleprovidedintotheengine.
3. Replaceoil filldipstickandtighten.
Subsequent Uses
Onlyusehighqualitydetergentoil ratedwithAPIserviceclassification
SF,SG,or SH.Selecttheoil's SAEviscositygradeaccordingtothe
expectedoperatingtemperature.Followthechartbelow.

Althoughmulti-viscosityoils(5W30,10W30,etc.)improvestarting
incoldweather,theywillresultinincreasedoil consumptionwhen
usedabove32°R Checkyourengineoil levelmorefrequentlytoavoid
possibleenginedamagefromrunninglowon oil.
1. Checktheoil levelmakingcertainnottorubthedipstickalongthe
insidewallsoftheoil filltube.Thiswouldresultina falsedipstick
reading.RefilltoFULLmarkon dipstick,ifnecessary.Capacity
isapproximately18oz.Overfillingwillcausetheenginetosmoke
profuselyandwill resultin poorengineperformance.
2. Replaceoil filldipstickandtighten.
3. Keepoil levelatFULL.Runningtheenginewithtoolittleoilcan
resultinpermanentenginedamage.
Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuelmachineindoors
or whiletheengineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,
pipes,andothersourcesofignition.
Gasoline
1. Removefuelcapfromthefueltank.
2. Makesurethecontainerfromwhichyouwillpourthegasolineis
cleanandfreefromrustor foreignparticles.Neverusegasoline
thatmaybestalefromlongperiodsofstoragein itscontainer.
Gasolinethathasbeensittingforanyperiodlongerthanfour
weeksshouldbe consideredstale.
3. Fillfueltankwithclean,fresh,unleadedregulargasolineonly.Do
notusegasolinecontainingMETHANOL.Replacefuelcap.

UseAlcoholblendedfuels(calledgasoholor usingethanolormetha-
nol)canattractmoisturewhichleadstoseparationandformationof
acidsduringstorage.Acidicgascandamagethefuelsystemof an
enginewhileinstorage.
Toavoidengineproblems,thefuelsystemshouldbe emptiedbefore
storagefor30daysorlonger.Drainthegastank,starttheengine
andletit rununtilthefuellinesandcarburetorareempty.Use
freshfuelnextseason.SeeSTORAGEInstructionsforadditional
information.
Neveruseengineorcarburetorcleanerproductsinthefueltankor I
permanentdamagemayoccur.
NOTE:Checkthefuellevelperiodicallytoavoidrunningoutofgaso-
linewhileoperatingthechippershredder.Ifthe unitrunsoutofgasas
itischipping,itmaybenecessarytounclogthedischargeareabefore
itcanberestarted.RefertoSERVICEANDADJUSTMENTsection.
TO START ENGINE
1. Attachsparkplugwireandrubberboottosparkplug.
2. Gastankshouldbefilled3/4 tofullbeforestarting.
3. MovethechokeleverontheenginetoCHOKEposition.I'_1
(Awarmenginemaynotrequirechoking.)SeeFigure10.
4. MovethrottlecontroltoSTART/RUN(Rabbit)position.

5. Standingbehindtheunit,graspstarterhandleand pullropeout
untilyoufeela drag.

NOTE:A noisewillbe heardwhenfindingthestartofthecompression
cycle.Thisnoiseiscausedbytheflailsandfingers,whicharepartof
theshreddingmechanism,andit shouldbeexpecteduntiltheimpeller
