HANDHELD-PORTABLEANALOG
SIGNAL GENERATOR
MODEL
ASG
DESCRIPTION
The
Model ASG
is a handheld, battery-or plug-inpower
supply powered, pocket-size analog signal generator. It
generates a 0-10 VDC signal in increments
of
1V
or a O-
20 mA signal in increments of 2 mA. The
LED
bar graph
visually indicates analog signal level.The
Model ASG
can
also continuously ramp to user-defined minimum or maxi-
mumvalueswith user-defined ramp-timesettings.

Analoa Outputs
The
ASG
has three individualoutputs-mA source, two-wiretransmitter, andvoltage output. The voltage output oper-
ates over a
0-10
VDC range. The "mA SourceOutput"will source a
0-20
mA signal poweredby the batterysup-
pliedwith the
ASG.
The output labeled"mA two wire xmitter" requiresan external power supplyand is intendedfor
looppoweredcircuits.
DisDlav
The LEDs onthe top of the
ASG
verify the progressof all adjustmentsand indicatestatus of variousfunctions of the
ASG.
*+
The "Status LED" indicatesnormaloperation, low battery, and ramp mode. When this LED is inthe off state, it indi-
catesthat the
ASG
is working normally. Ifthe "StatusLED" is lit continuouslyduring normaloperation, the battery is
low. The "StatusLED"will blinkwheneverthe
ASG
is in a ramping mode.
The "mA Over Load LED"will light whenever the circuit exceeds
300R.
Note:This "Over LoadLED"will light if the
leadsare not connectedto a device due to an open circuit.
The "Output LEDs" indicatethe analogsignal level, ramptimes durationand programming, and auto off times. The
"SignalLevelLEDs"are readas either mA or voltage with the appropriatescale. During ramping mode calibration,
the mA scale is usedto represent time inseconds. For instance,
2
represents
2
seconds and
20
represents
20
sec-
onds. Duringthe auto-off change mode the mA scale representstime inminutes. (SeeAuto-Off Functionon page

'The Rampina Function
The ASG will continuously ramp betweentwo user-definedendpointsfor a user-specifiedintervaltime between
each incrementalstep. The ASG ispreprogrammedto ramp between
4
mA (2VDC) and20 mA (10 VDC) in 10-
second increments; however, customincrementaltimes and end points canbetemporarily programmedintothe
ASG.
