CAUTION
FOR YOUR SAFETY:

DO NOT store or use gasoline or any other ammable vapors
or liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

Due to high temperatures, the appliance should be located
out of trac and away from furniture and draperies.

DO NOT place clothing or other ammable materials on
or near the appliance.

Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or
maintenance can cause injury or property damage. Refer
to this manual for correct installation and operational
procedures. For assistance or additional information
consult a qualied installer, service agency.
WARNING
Always leave glass doors fully opened or fully closed when
operating replace.
INSTALLATION INFORMATION
Before beginning the replace installation, read the instructions
completely.
• This replace and its components are safe when installed
according to this installation manual. Unless you use Empire
components, that are designed and tested for the replace
system, you may cause a re hazard.
•
The warranty will be voided by Empire, and Empire disclaims
any re
sponsibility for the following actions.
a. Modication of the replace, components, doors, air inlet
system and damper control.
b. Use of any component part not manufactured or approved
by Empire in combination with an Empire replace system.
Proper installation is crucial for safe and continuous replace
operation. Consult local building codes for the requirements of all
factory built replaces.
DISPOSAL OF ASHES
Place ashes in a metal container with a tight-tting lid. Place
the closed container of ashes on a noncombustible oor or on
the ground, away from all combustible materials, pending nal
disposal. If the ashes are buried in soil or otherwise locally
dispersed, they should be retained in the closed container until
all cinders have cooled.
When using the decorative appliance, the replace damper must
be set in the fully open position.
Do not use gasoline, gasoline-type lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal
lighter uid, or similar liquids to freshen or start a re in the replace.
Keep these liquids away from the replace when it is in use.
WARNING
Use solid wood or processed solid fuel relogs only.
When processed wood fuel re logs are used, do not poke
or stir the logs while they are burning. Use only re logs
that have been evaluated for the application in replace
and refer to re log warnings and caution markings on
packaging prior to use.
WARNING
BURNING IMPROPER FUEL (I.E. CHARCOAL) CAN RESULT
IN CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING, WHICH MAY LEAD TO
DEATH!
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning – Early signs of carbon monoxide
poisoning resemble the u with headaches, dizziness, or
nausea. If you have these signs, get fresh air at once! Have
the appliance inspected by a qualied service technician.
Some people are more aected by carbon monoxide than
others. These include pregnant women, people with heart or
lung disease or anemia, those under the inuence of alcohol,
and those at high altitudes.
VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
Provide adequate air for combustion. The fresh air requirements
of this appliance must be met within the space where it will be
installed.
CREOSOTE – FORMATION
When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic
vapors that combine with expelled moisture to form creosote.
The creosote vapors condense in the cool chimney ue of a slow-
burning re. As a result, creosote residue accumulates on the ue
lining. When ignited this creosote makes an extremely hot re.
WARNING
Children and adults should be alerted to the hazards of
high surface temperatures and to stay away to avoid burns
or clothing ignition. Young children should be carefully
supervised when in the same room as replace.
When using SOLID WOOD only for fuel, use dry well seasoned
hardwood. Softwoods burn quickly. Do not use treated wood,
charcoal, coal, trash, driftwood or woods dipped in tar, pitch, pine
tar, or creosote. Wood products made with synthetic binders, such
as plywood, produce abnormally high temperatures and smoking
res. When burning articial logs follow the manufacturer's
instructions.
