ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
(revised 08/20/10)

PLEASE NOTE: HARDWARE DESCRIBED ABOVE IS AMERICAN STANDARD. HARDWARE PROVIDED MAY
BE METRIC EQUIVALENT. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO HAVE AN ADJUSTABLE WRENCH AVAILABLE DURING
ASSEMBLY.
YOU WILL NEED (1) ½” x 36” PIECE OF REBAR (NOT PROVIDED) DURING FOOTING PORTION OF ASSEMBLY! REBAR
CAN BE PURCHASED AT BUILDERS SUPPLY CENTER WHERE YOU PURCHASE CONCRETE.
1. Unpack all components and cross check against bill of materials to make sure all parts and hardware
are included. If any parts are missing, call First Team toll free 1-888-884-6677 immediately.
2. Locate and dig a footing hole 18” diameter by 24” deep. The edge of the footing hole should be flush
to the edge of the playing surface. Keep in mind that with the rim raised to 10’, the distance from the
front of the pole to the face of the backboard will be approximately 13”.
3. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! In this step, if you have difficulty identifying which post section is the
LOWER POST, call First Team immediately for help 1-888-884-6677. Locate the 3” diameter LOWER
POST section. The vertical post is comprised of 3 sections, the LOWER POST section is the one with the
fewest number of holes. NOTE: One end of the LOWER POST is “reduced” in diameter, this is the top
end.
4. Using a pencil or other marker, measure up from the bottom of the LOWER POST 8” and make a mark
on the outside of the LOWER POST.

5. Fill hole to top with concrete following the directions on the bag
for mixing instructions. This should require approximately 6 bags of
concrete. Save a 1/2 bag for use later in assembly.
6. Insert the bottom end of the LOWER POST into the wet concrete
pushing it down until you reach the 8”mark you made on the
outside of the post. Front edge of post should be 4” away from
playing surface. IMPORTANT! –Rotate LOWER POST so that the
holes punched in the top of the post are PERPENDICULAR (90
degrees) to playing surface edge. This will make sure the LOWER
POST is cemented with proper alignment to the playing surface.
7. Form the cement so that it slightly slopes away from the LOWER
POST to allow water to drain away. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PREMATURE RUSTING OF THE
POST!
8. Insert (1) ½” x 36” rebar (not included) inside the LOWER POST so
that the top of the rebar is 4” below the top of the LOWER POST. Using
a level, check the LOWER POST to make sure it is vertical front to back
and side to side. Also, make certain that the LOWER POST does not
sink into the concrete. The 8” mark must remain even with the playing
surface.
9. ALLOW 1-4 hours for concrete to cure. Be sure to continue checking
on the LOWER POST during the first hour to make sure it has not
moved out of position.
10. Next, mix the remaining concrete and pour the concrete into the top of the LOWER POST until it is
even with the top of the ½” rebar you inserted into the LOWER POST in step 8. DO NOT OVERFILL THE
POST OR YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ASSEMBLE THE REST OF THE POST SECTIONS!
11. Vibrate the concrete down in the LOWER POST using a broom handle to remove any air pockets.
12. Clean all excess concrete from the outside of the LOWER POST.
13. Locate the 3” diameter MID POST section. It is the section that has a hole drilled at both ends of the
post and two additional holes drilled approximately 22” and 24” from the bottom end of MID POST.
Again, the “reduced” end of the post goes to the top.

14. Insert the reduced end of the LOWER POST into the
bottom end of MID POST until the holes line up for the joint
attachment bolt. If the posts do not seat together easily, tap
them 4 to 5 times up and down.
15. Attach LOWER POST to MID POST at the post joint using
(1) 3/8” x 3.5” hex bolt (2) 3/8” flatwashers and (1) 3/8”
locknut as shown. BE CERTAIN TO INSERT BOLT WITH BOLT
THREADS PROTRUDING OUT THE BACK SIDE OF POST –AWAY
FROM PLAYING AREA!!!!
16. Following the procedure laid out above, attach the TOP POST section to the MID POST section and
secure using (1) 3/8” x 3.5” hex bolt (2) 3/8” flatwashers and (1) 3/8” locknut. BE CERTAIN TO INSERT
BOLT WITH BOLT THREADS PROTRUDING OUT THE BACK SIDE OF POST –AWAY FROM PLAYING AREA!!!!
17. Attach ACTUATOR BRACKET to MID POST using (2)
5/16” x 4” hex bolt, (4) flat washer and (2) 5/16” locknut as
shown. NOTE: FOR SAFETY, ATTACH ACTUATOR BRACKET
SO THREADED PORTION OF BOLT PROTRUDES AWAY FROM
PLAYING AREA. HEADS OF BOLTS SHOULD BE ON THE
FRONT SIDE OF MID POST!
18. Attach LOWER ARMS to TOP POST using (1) ½” x 7” hex bolt, (2) flat washer, (1) ½” locknut and (2)
ARM SPACER as shown. NOTE: ARM SPACERS are sandwiched BETWEEN the LOWER ARMS and the TOP
POST to prevent metal to metal contact.

19. Attach UPPER ARMS to TOP POST using (1) ½” x 7” hex bolt, (2) flat washer, (1) ½” locknut and (2)
ARM SPACER as shown. NOTE: ARM SPACERS are sandwiched BETWEEN the UPPER ARMS and the TOP
POST to prevent metal to metal contact.
20. Assemble ACTUATOR. Attach ACTUATOR HANDLE to the bottom of the ACTUATOR using small
1/8”x 1 ¼” screw and lock nut. NOTE: IF NOT ALREADY ASSEMBLED, SLIDE PLASTIC TUBE OVER
ACTUATOR BODY as shown (holes to the top).
21. Attach the ACTUATOR to the ACTUATOR BRACKET
using (1) 5/16” x 2 ½” hex bolt, (2) flat washer and (1)
5/16” locknut as shown.
22. Attach upper end of ACTUATOR to LOWER ARMS
using (1) ½” x 7” hex bolt, (2) flat washer, (1) ½”
locknut and (2) CRANK SPACER (7/8”). NOTE: ARM
SPACERS are sandwiched BETWEEN the LOWER ARMS
and the ACTUATOR to keep ACTUATOR centered on
½” bolt.
23. Lay BACKBOARD face down on a working surface.
24. Your BACKBOARD MOUNT is designed with a notch on both sides that allows the BACKBOARD
MOUNT to be bent into a “Y” shape. Bend BACKBOARD MOUNT into a “Y” shape as shown.
25. Lay BACKBOARD MOUNT onto back side of BACKBOARD lining up the four rim holes in the
BACKBOARD with the four rim holes in the BACKBOARD MOUNT. Also, make sure the holes at the top of
the BACKBOARD MOUNT match up to the threaded holes in the BACKBOARD.

26. Using (2) 5/16”x 4” hex bolt, (2) SPRING CUP, (2) RIM
SPRING, (2) flat washer and (2) 5/16” hex nut attach FLEX GOAL
(TOP HOLES) to BACKBOARD and BACKBOARD MOUNT as
shown. NOTE: The heads of the hex bolts should be on the
front face side of backboard with the flat washers and hex nuts
on the back side of BACKBOARD MOUNT. Hex bolts will pass
through SPRING CUP, SPRING, FLEX GOAL, BACKBOARD AND
BACKBOARD MOUNT.
27. Using (2) 5/16” x 1 ½” hex bolts, (4) flat washer and (2) 5/16” lock nut, attach FLEX GOAL (BOTTOM
HOLES) to BACKBOARD and BACKBOARD MOUNT.
28. Next, using (2) 5/16” x 5/8” hex bolts and flatwashers, secure left and right top sides of BACKBOARD
MOUNT to threaded inserts in BACKBOARD. CAUTION!!!! DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN HEX BOLTS!! TIGHTEN
UNTIL SNUG!
23. Using 3 people, attach BACKBOARD/BACKBOARD MOUNT/FLEX GOAL assembly to the ends of the
LOWER ARMS and UPPER ARMS using (2) ½” x 7” hex bolt, (4) flat washers, (2) ½” locknut, (4) ARM
SPACERS and (2) 2 ¾” long BACKBOARD MOUNT SPACERS. NOTE: BACKBOARD MOUNT SPACERS fit
inside the BACKBOARD MOUNT to help prevent over tightening ½” hex bolts. (See photo)

24. Check over unit to make sure all hardware is tightened adequately
(NOT TOO TIGHT).
25. Place POST CAP on top of post.
26. Place ACTUATOR CAP on top of ACTUATOR.
26. Hang net.
Congratulations! Assembly of your INTRUDER E-Z crank adjustable
