flashes to the blue display, turn “Off” the “Video Detect” feature. This feature should only be used for problematic
video sources.
B. IMPROVEMENTS IN NEW V1.5 SOFTWARE
1. Digital Audio Detect - The 5.0 will automatically detect PCM, Dolby Digital and DTS (where applicable)
bitstreams and switch to the appropriate digital surround mode. V1.5 includes the ability to easily override the
Auto Detect circuit by pressing the Dolby button on the remote. (NOTE - In addition to turning off this circuit by
pressing the Dolby button, Auto Detect may also be shut off in the “Program” menu for each source. This
circuit should normally be left “ON” under normal operating conditions.)
Overriding the Auto Detect circuit is generally used to manually force Dolby Pro Logic playback of 2-channel Dolby
Digital signals of some DVDs that Auto Detect 2.0 signals for Stereo playback. Auto Detect can be reinitiated with
a second press of the Dolby button, or by switching to another digital source or program.
Dolby Digital DVDs come in a variety of digital channel formats including, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 5.1. These
numbers represent the number of audio channels carried in the DD bit-stream. Dolby Digital 2.0 (2-channel) discs
fall in one of two categories, those encoded for Dolby Digital Pro Logic playback and those non-encoded for 2-
channel Stereo only playback. Encoded discs should automatically play back in Pro Logic and non-encoded discs
will play back in Stereo.
A signal “flag” is embedded in AC-3 DVDs indicating whether a 2.0 bitstream includes a Dolby encoded signal for
multi-channel playback in Digital Pro Logic. 2-channel signals that do not have the “flag” will Auto Detect to play in
Stereo only. Unfortunately, many 2.0 recordings are Dolby encoded but do not have this flag. The Auto Detect
override allows the unit to be forced in the Digital Pro Logic mode, even though the disc indicates that the source
material is non-encoded.
What does this all mean? If you come across a Dolby Digital DVD that plays back in
2-channel Stereo only, you have two choices:
1. Press the Dolby button – This action will force Pro Logic playback of 2-channel DVDs and temporarily
disengage the Auto Detect circuit.
2. Press 6-Axis - Activating 6-Axis provides improved steering logic over Pro Logic and will not disengage the
Digital Auto Detect circuit. This mode is compatible for all
2-channel sources be they encoded or non-encoded. 6-Axis is a universal analog multi-channel mode available
for ALL sources both digital and analog, music and movies. We highly recommend this mode.
3. Level Matching between Surround Modes - Switching between Dolby and 6-AXIS will result in the audio
levels that are closer in level and channel balance. Although not exact, this is a great improvement over older
versions of software that played the 6-AXIS mode at a significantly higher volume level than Dolby.
4. Control the Citation 5.0 through the RS 485 BUS - The RS-485 BUS is now active and allows system
control with outboard RS-232 and RS-485 control systems. This BUS provides two-way communications and
is more comprehensive than IR only control. To communicate to the Citation 5.0 with RS-232 controllers, order
the Citation CCI RS232/RS485 interface module. Please contact Citation Technical Support for a copy of the
RS-485 documentation.
C. IMPORTANT NOTES UPON INITIAL INSTALLATION (NOT IN OWNER’S MANUAL)
1. Data Reset – It is always best to perform a data reset when the 5.0 is first installed to assure proper operation
before initial programming and setup. Access the “System Reset” menu using the On-Screen Display and
follow the on-screen instructions to reset the system. After the unit goes in to a Standby condition, press the
Front Panel “Standby” Button to complete the Data Reset. The remote control “Standby” button will not
operate during a reset. This process will avoid the “no digital audio” condition described below.
