1. General notes
1.1 Goods incoming
Upon receipt of the goods, they should be inspected immediately for external damage. Defects in the pa-
ckaging must be reported to the carrier immediately and acceptance must be refused.
Should the product be damaged after unpacking, this must be immediately reported in writing to thermo-
control. The complaint can be accepted no later than 5 days after receipt of the goods.
The delivery documents show whether additional transport insurance has been taken out. If this is the case,
thermo-control must be informed immediately so that the damage can be asserted against the insurance
company.

1.4 Prozessanschluss

1.5 Transport protection
The products are secured with different means during transport. The correct handling of disassembling the
transport protection guarantees the safety of the product.
In essence, two methods are in use:
• Securing with plexiglass tube and lling material
• Securing with stainless steel tube and PVC net hose
1.5.1 Transport protection with Plexiglass tube and lling material
Thermocouples with small ange or threaded connections are shipped in a Ø30mm Plexiglas tube. In the
plexiglass tube, the ceramic tubes of the thermocouple are xed against movement by a lling material,
usually corundum or walnut shell granules. The open end of the tube is provided with a blue cap.
Please remove the protection using following procedure:
• Remove the blue cap
• Completely remove / pour lling material out of the Plexiglas tube
• Pull the thermocouple out of the Plexiglass tube
Important note:
Not following above procedure will damage the thermocouple protection tube.
1.5.2 Transport protection with stainless steel tube and PVC mesh hose
This method is used for thermocouples with holding tube with a metallic transport tube. The tube has a
diameter of Ø18mm and covers the ceramic protective tubes. The ceramic tubes are covered with a PVC
mesh hose to protect them from shocks. The hose can protrude a few centimeters out of the transport tube
and is usually colored blue.
The transport tube is removed by pulling out in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the thermocouple.
Lateral movements or rotations can lead to breakage of the ceramic tubes and thus to the loss of the guarantee.

Thermocouple for vacuum systems up to 5 bar atmospheric pressure with 2 x Type S thermocouples + 1
empty test tube, with a nominal length of 600 mm and ISO 2816 small ange DN25.
A protective tube serves as a test tube into which a test thermocouple can be inserted. As a result, this
thermocouple can be checked for any deviations at any time. Also, if the thermocouple is installed in the
oven, the measurement can be performed. Due to the separate guidance of the thermocouples, the test
measurement does not affect the built-in thermocouples. In addition, the thin-walled construction makes
the thermocouple more tolerant of faster insertion speeds.
(*)Important note
Using the small ange tting at pressures above 5 bar special seal rings and clamps
need to be used to ensure a safe production.

Commissioning of the thermocouple
9
3. Commissioning of the thermocouple
The installation and commissioning of the thermocouple may only be carried out by suitably trained specia-
lists. For all indirect and direct damages caused by improper installation, thermo-control assumes no liability.
3.1 Connection mechanical
Loosen the previous small ange connection at the furnace connection. Check the sealing surfaces on the
furnace connection and the thermocouple for dents, scratches and dirt. Clean soiling with a clean cloth and
isopropanol. Also check the seal for integrity or brittleness. The thermocouple comes with a new sealing
and centering ring, which you can also use.
The strain relief of the cable guide should point as far down as possible.
Important!
Make sure the feedthroughs of the outer and inner chambers are coaxial. The ceramic
protective tubes should be free of stress in the bushings.
Security note
The use of vacuum grease on the seals is not permitted.
For furnace pressures above 5 bar additional mechanical safeguards must be installed
to prevent the thermocouple from escaping!
3.2 Connection electric
The compensating cable of the corresponding type of thermocouple is routed through the M20x1 cable
guide into the connection head and connected to the existing terminals, preferably with nickel-plated core
sleeves. Here, the positive wire to the colored terminal and the negative wire to the wise terminal to connect.
If the colored marking is no longer recognizable, the negative wire on thermo-control thermocouples can
be recognized by the fact that it is thicker than the positive wire.
3.3 Completing the preparations
The thermocouple is ready for operation after successful mechanical and electrical connection. Thereafter,
the correction values from the supplied certicate should be entered into the furnace control.
To avoid measurement errors, the cover of the connection head must always be closed, so that a constant
temperature can be maintained within the head, which is not disturbed by air circulation.
4. Troubleshooting
4.1 No signal
If the thermocouple shows no temperature despite correct start-up, the thermocouples used should be
checked for electrical connectivity. If this is the case, the remaining measuring section should be examined
for an interruption, for example cable breakage. If it is suspected that the fault is with the thermocouple,
the thermocouple must be sent in for inspection and an accurate error analysis must be carried out.
4.2 The thermocouple always reads 30°C (± 10 °C)
In this case, there is a short circuit of the thermocouple wires in the connection head and the temperature
of the connection head is measured. This extremely rare error can only occur when the thermocouple is rst
installed. Should the suspicion of the inspection prove that this short circuit was caused by thermo-control,

thermo-control
Körtélyessy GmbH
Vacuum thermocouples with small flange fitting
Safety instructions
10
the repair will of course be handled as a warranty case.
4.3 The thermocouple indicates a falling temperature when heated
The reason for such a behavior is usually a wrong polarity of the compensation line with the thermo wires.
If there is no change despite the color match (white clamp and orange / red on orange clamp), the silicone
insulating tubing has been misfeeded. This, extremely rare, production-related error can be corrected by
simply reconnecting the occupancy. It is recommended to remove the silicone tubes with the thumbnail
and replace them. Another indication is the different thickness of the thermo wire in which the thicker is
always the negative wire.
4.4 The thermocouple drifts
Thermo-control thermocouples never drift due to the different thickness of the thermo wires. However, if a
drift is used, it must be checked to what extent external damage, mechanical or chemical, can be detected.
If no external inuences are visible, the thermocouple should be returned.
Note
PtRh-Pt thermocouples always drift downwards, indicating a lower temperature than the
actual one. If the new, apparently drifting, thermocouple shows more than the built-in,
it is more likely that the built-in thermocouple have a certain drift.
Tip
Order a suitable test thermocouple for the thermocouple. This is made from the same
wire batch. Since it is not constantly exposed to the temperature drift is unlikely here.
4.5 Re-Calibration
Each thermo-control thermocouple has a separate, empty thermowell in which a controlling thermocouple
can be inserted. The access to the empty tube is available in the connection head.
Due to this design, the thermocouple does not have to be removed!
5. Safety instructions
Do not repair the thermocouple yourself!
In this case, the warranty expires immediately and there is an increased risk that the
oven and the batch will be damaged. Damaged thermocouples should be returned for
inspection to investigate the possibility of repair.
Notes on installation
Please note that the feedthroughs from the oven to the chamber are coaxial with each
other! Due to the thin design of the ceramic protective tubes they are easily bendable, so
that a slight shift of the coaxiality is initially not noticed. However, once the connection
is tightened it can come to so-called root breaks.
Note when used in pressure chambers
When using thermocouples in pressure atmospheres> 5bar, the fastening via the respec-
tive process connection must additionally be secured against loosening, for example by
means of a bracket or a chain.

Packaging
11
Note on the warranty
All thermocouple rotection tubes are tested for vacuum tightness prior to manufacture
with a helium leak test. Likewise, attention is paid to the highest purity during production.
The resulting quality allows a warranty period of 4 years from delivery against drift and
thermal wire breakage.
The warranty is void if a ceramic protective tube is mechanically and / or chemically
attacked and / or damaged by external inuences. This also expires in case of third-
party repair, changes in the construction, if this has not been claried in writing with
thermo-control. For damages of any kind as a result of improper attachment or use, the
thermo-control Körtvélyessy GmbH assumes no liability.
6. Packaging
If this is your rst thermo-control thermocouple, you should unpack the box it was delivered to. This ensures
that in the event of a return, the thermocouple survives the transport undamaged. If, after many years of
operation, the box is no longer available, you should consider the following recommendations for shipping.
6.1 Box material
The box should consist of at least 2-corrugated cardboard box 2.3 strength. Wooden or stiffened plastic
packaging is also suitable.
6.2 Filling material
thermo-control has been successfully using paper paper rolls (wrapping paper or similar material) for over
3 decades, with the nodule size being about a rumpled newspaper page. Alternatively, rolls of paper pads
can be used on which the products are placed.
Styrofoam flakes (or similar material) are not allowed as a filler!
Styrofoam is too hard and does not dampen jerky movements sufciently, moreover, the
small particles do not x the part sufciently against slipping. Machine made paper pads
are also suitable, as long as a sufcient suspension can be guaranteed.
6.3 Loading
The connection head should be placed in the middle and at least 10cm from the box walls. If there are two
parts, the connection heads are to be packed opposite and care must be taken that both parts can not collide.
6.4 Request a new box
At http://www.thermo-control.com/en/support/index.php you can request a new box of ller suitable for
your product for free.

Hinweise zur Garantie
12
