2.2Procedure forHardwareInstallation
2.Decide where to place your Wireless Broadband Router
You canplace yourWBR-3406TX, Wireless BroadbandRouter,onadeskorother flat surface, or
youcanmountit onawall. Foroptimal performance, place your Wireless Broadband Router in
the center ofyouroffice (oryourhome) in alocationthat is awayfromanypotential source of
interference, suchas ametal wall ormicrowaveoven. Thislocationmust beclose to power and
networkconnection.
2. Setup LAN connection
a. Wired LAN connection:connects anEthernet cable from your computer sEthernet port toone
of the LAN portsof this product.
b. Wireless LAN connection:locate this product at aproperpositiontogainthebest transmit
performance.

3.Setup WAN connection
Prepare anEthernet cable forconnecting this product toyourcable/xDSLmodemorEthernet
backbone. Figure 2-3 illustrates the WAN connection.
4.Power on
Connectingthepowercord topower inlet andturning thepower switchon, this product will
automaticallyenterthe self-test phase. Whenit isintheself-test phase, theindicators STATUS
will be lighted ON for about 10 seconds, andthenSTATUSwill be flashed 3timestoindicate that
the self-test operationhas finished.Finally,theSTATUS will be continuouslyflashedonce per
second to indicate that this product is in normal operation.

Touse WBR-3406TX correctly,youhave to properlyconfigure the networksettings ofyourcomputers
andinstall the attached setup program intoyour MS Windows platform (98SE/ME/2000/XP)
3.1Make Correct Network Settings ofYourComputer
The default IPaddress ofthis product is 192.168.123.254,andthedefault subnet maskis
255.255.255.0. Theseaddresses can bechangedonyourneed, butthedefault values are usedin this
manual. Ifthe TCP/IP environmentofyourcomputerhas notyet been configured,youcan refer to
AppendixA toconfigure it. For example,
1. configureIPas 192.168.123.1,subnet mask as255.255.255.0 and gatewayas
192.168.123.254, or more easier,
2. configureyour computerstoload TCP/IPsettingautomatically,that is, via DHCPserver of
this product.
After installingtheTCP/IP communicationprotocol, you can use the ping commandtocheckif your
computer has successfullyconnectedtothis product. The followingexample shows thepingprocedure
forWindows 95platforms. First, execute the ping command
ping192.168.123.254
If the followingmessages appear:
Pinging192.168.123.254with 32bytes ofdata:
Replyfrom192.168.123.254:bytes=32time=2ms TTL=64
acommunicationlink between your computer and this product has been successfullyestablished.
Otherwise, if youget the followingmessages,
Pinging192.168.123.254with 32bytes ofdata:
Request timed out.
There must be somethingwrongin your installationprocedure. Youhave tocheckthe followingitems
in sequence:
1. Is the Ethernet cable correctlyconnectedbetween this product andyourcomputer?
Tip:The LANLED ofthisproduct and thelinkLED ofnetworkcard onyour computer must be
lighted.
2. Is the TCP/IPenvironment ofyourcomputers properlyconfigured?
Tip:If theIPaddress of this productis 192.168.123.254,theIPaddress of your computermust
be 192.168.123.X anddefault gatewaymust be 192.168.123.254.

This product provides Webbased configurationscheme, that is, configuringbyyourWebbrowser,
suchas NetscapeCommunicatororInternet Explorer.This approach can be adoptedin anyMS
Windows, Macintosh orUNIX basedplatforms.

4.1Start-upand Login
Activateyourbrowser,and disable the proxy or add the IPaddress ofthis product into the
exceptions.Then, type thisproduct sIPaddress in the Location(forNetscape)orAddress (forIE)
fieldand press ENTER. Forexample: http://192.168.123.254.
After the connectionisestablished,youwill see thewebuser interface ofthis product. Thereare two
appearances ofwebuserinterface: forgeneral users andforsystem administrator.
Tologin as anadministrator,enter thesystempassword(thefactorysettingis”admin”)in the
SystemPassword field andclickon the Login button. If thepasswordis correct, thewebappearance
will bechanged into administratorconfiguremode. As listed in its mainmenu, thereare several
options forsystem administration.

4.2Status
This option provides the function forobserving this product s working status:
A. WAN Port Status.
IftheWAN port is assigned a dynamic IP,there mayappeara “Renew”or “Release”button
on the Sidenote column.You can clickthis buttontorenewor release IPmanually.
B. Statistics of WAN: enablesyoutomonitor inboundandoutbound packets
Note: Aftersuccessful login, youcan switchthe languageinthe Web-based user interface. There are
four languages available, which areEnglish, Deutsh, Chinese, and Korean.Please select thelanguage
byclickingtheoptionon the top-right corner.

4.4.1 Primary Setup –WANType, VirtualComputers
Press “Change

This optionis primarytoenable thisproduct to workproperly.Thesettingitems andthe web
appearance dependonthe WAN type. Choose correct WAN typebeforeyoustart.
1. LAN IPAddress:the local IPaddress of this device. The computers onyournetworkmust use the
LAN IP address ofyourproduct as their Default Gateway.You can change it if necessary.
2. WAN Type:WAN connection type ofyour ISP.You can click Change buttonto choose acorrect
one from the followingfouroptions:
A. Static IP Address: ISPassigns you a static IPaddress.
B. Dynamic IP Address: ObtainanIP address fromISPautomatically.
C. Dynamic IP Address withRoadRunner SessionManagement.(e.g. Telstra BigPond)
D. PPPover Ethernet: Some ISPs require theuse ofPPPoE toconnect totheir services.
E. PPTP: Some ISPs require theuse ofPPTPtoconnect totheirservices.
4.4.1.1 Static IPAddress
WAN IP Address, Subnet Mask,Gateway,Primaryand SecondaryDNS: enter the proper setting
provided byyourISP.
4.4.1.2 Dynamic IPAddress
1. Host Name: optional. Requiredbysome ISPs, for example, @Home.
2. Renew IPForever: this featureenables this product torenew your IP address automaticallywhen
the lease time is expiring-- even when the system is idle.
4.4.1.3 Dynamic IPAddress with Road Runner SessionManagement.(e.g. Telstra BigPond)
1LAN IP Address isthe IPaddress ofthis product. It must be thedefault gatewayof your
computers.
2.WAN Type is DynamicIP Address. If the WAN type is not correct, change it!
3.Host Name: optional. Requiredbysome ISPs, e.g. @Home.
4.Renew IP Forever:this feature enable this product renew IP address automaticallywhenthe
lease time is being expiredeven thesystem is inidle state.
4.4.1.4 PPPover Ethernet
1. PPPoEAccount andPassword: the account and password your ISPassignedtoyou. For security,
this fieldappears blank.If youdon't want tochange the password, leave it empty.
2. PPPoE Service Name: optional. Input the service name if yourISPrequires it. Otherwise, leave
it blank.
3. Maximum Idle Time: the amountoftime of inactivitybefore disconnectingyourPPPoE session.
Set it tozeroor enable Auto-reconnect to disable this feature.

4.4.1.5 PPTP
1.MyIP Address andMySubnetMask: the private IPaddress and subnet mask yourISPassigned
toyou.
2. Server IP Address: the IPaddress ofthe PPTPserver.
3.PPTPAccountandPassword:theaccount andpasswordyour ISPassignedtoyou.Ifyou
don'twant tochange the password, keep it empty.
3.Connection ID: optional. Input the connectionID if your ISPrequires it.
4.Maximum Idle Time: thetime ofnoactivitytodisconnect yourPPTPsession.Setit tozeroor
enableAuto-reconnect todisable thisfeature. If Auto-reconnect is enabled,thisproduct will
connect toISPautomatically, after system is restartedorconnectionis dropped.

4.4.1.6 L2TP
1. IP Mode: The IP Mode assigned byyour ISP. Youcanselect either Static IPAddress or
Dynamic IPaddress.
2. MyIPAddress andMySubnet Mask: the private IPaddress andsubnet maskyourISP
assignedtoyou whenyour IPMode is Static IPAddress.
3. Server IP Address: the IPaddress oftheL2TPserver.
4. L2TPAccount and Password:the account andpasswordyourISPassignedtoyou. Ifyou don't
want tochange thepassword, keep it empty.
Maximum Idle Time: the time of noactivitytodisconnect your L2TPsession. Set it tozeroorenable
Auto-reconnect todisable this feature. IfAuto-reconnect is enabled, this product will automatically
connect to ISPafter system is restarted orconnectionis dropped.
