Using FUSION Voice
Powering on
When FUSION Voice is connected to the vehicle power or accessories line, it will power up when
the ignition is turned to On/Accessories.
The FUSION Voice will startup in approximately 10 seconds, however it will take another 60
seconds before the Wi-Fi becomes available.
To cycle power to FUSION Voice, simply turn the ignition to Off and back to On/Accessories.
User Interface
The Control Head of the FUSION Voice includes four UI elements:
1. volume control
2. three audio state LEDs
3. a graphical display
4. channel select buttons
The standard microphone included with FUSION Voice includes a single talk button.

Rotate the volume control clockwise to increase the speaker volume and counterclockwise to
decrease the volume. The raised dot indicates the current volume setting.
The Audio State LEDs are colour coded and indicate state of:
• Orange: Device is powered
• Green: Device is transmitting audio
• Yellow: Device is playing received audio
The graphic display clearly indicates to users the following information:
1. State of device connectivity, including Wi-Fi Connection, and Radio signal strength
2. Selected Talk Channel
The Up/Down channel select buttons on the control head allow a user to change the active
channel.
Holding the (red) F1 function key for 5 seconds initiates an Emergency Broadcast. The remaining
function keys are reserved for future use.
Channel Selection
Commissioning a FUSION Voice unit for site includes configuring talk channels. Each talk channel
can be either standard LMR channel, or MST PTT. A device is not required to include both types
of channels in its configuration.
Radio channels use the UHF or VHF radio to communicate over traditional LMR infrastructure.
MST PTT Channels use the Wi-Fi to communicate over custom MST talk protocol.
Channel naming convention should ensure that it is clear to users which connectivity technology is
used. The selected channel is clearly displayed on the graphical display.
A user changes the selected channel using the push buttons on the control head. If the FUSION
Voice is fitted with an (optional) keypad RSM, the channel change buttons on the RSM may
alternatively be used.
Radio Channel
Radio channels act according to the supporting infrastructure and configuration as per the installed
Tait radio.

14
Broadcast PTT
One of the PTT channels may be designated as the Broadcast Channel.
When this channel is selected, all other FUSION Voice and MinePhone’s on the network that are
currently not sending or receiving on any other channel or SIP call will output the audio.
A device does not need to select the Broadcast Channel as the active channel to output this audio.
Custom PTT
Up to 30 PTT channels can be configured at Custom PTT channels.
Communication with a custom PTT channel is received by all other FUSION Voice an MinePhones
with the same active channel selected.
Emergency PTT
If the FUSION Voice is configured with any PTT channels, it MUST include one Emergency PTT
Broadcast channel.
Pressing and holding the F1 key for 5 seconds sets the device to broadcast on the Emergency
PTT channel.
If a device is broadcasting on the Emergency PTT channel, all other FUSION Voice and
MinePhones on the network will drop and existing audio capture/output and play the emergency
audio.
Transmit on Selected Channel
Pressing and holding the microphone talk button will attempt to key the currently selected channel.
If the FUSION Voice has connectivity and the channel is clear, the device will transmit audio on the
selected channel.
Release the talk button to stop transmitting audio.

Configuration
Overview
FUSION Voice configuration consists of managing two discrete systems:
1. Tait Communications radio
2. MST Push-to-Talk application
Each of these systems has its own configuration and update procedures as detailed below.
Tait Communications Radio
Direct configuration of the FUSION Voice radio requires a USB configuration cable (sold
separately) and Tait TM9355 Radio Programming software.
Please refer to the user documentation available from the Tait support portal for further details on
how to use this software and manage fleet of units.
MST PTT Application
The FUSION Voice uses the same PTT channel configuration files as the MST MinePhone - a
deployment already managing MinePhones will not need to make additional changes to pick up
configured PTT channels.
Managing using ICA
Deployments using an ICA Version 2.14.0 or later are capable of discovering FUSION Voice units
on the same network. These devices can be configured and managed using configuration
templates setup in the ICA Admin Console.
Firmware Updates using ICA
The ICA can push updated PTT firmware to the FUSION Voice. MST regularly releases firmware
updates to add new features and capabilities to their system, the latest version of the FUSION
Voice firmware can be downloaded from:
https://support.mstglobal.com/releases/firmware/
To push a firmware update to FUSION Voice, use the Admin Console to upload a file to the ICA
and select type VMP_FIRMWARE.

Service and Maintenance
Troubleshooting
Device won’t turn on
If the red, green and orange LEDs on the control head do not light up when the radio is turned on,
it is probable that power is not reaching the radio. Check the following:
• Is the power connector firmly plugged into the rear of the radio?
• Are the in-line fuses in good condition?
• Is the power cable securely connected to the vehicle battery or power supply?
If all appears to be in order, but your radio still fails to operate properly, contact your radio provider
for further assistance.
Retrieve hardware version
To check the version of your radio using the PTT key (not with hand-held control head)
1. Turn off the radio.
2. Hold down the PTT key and turn on the radio.
The firmware and hardware versions, and your radio’s frequency band is briefly displayed.
Maintenance
It is recommended that FUSION Voice hardware, cables, and connectors be inspected at regular
intervals for wear and damage to ensure safe and reliable operation. A maintenance checklist
should include checks that cover:
Component
Check
Structural
• Inspect outer case for any structural damage
• No excessive marking or wear to case
Antennas
• Check the antennas for any damage.
• Check the antennas' connections to the coaxial cable for any
damage to the insulation or connection.
• Check the antennas' physical positioning allows for adequate
reception without compromising physical protection.
Connectors
• All cable plugs are secure
• All unused plugs are capped
Please contact MST for all maintenance and repair enquiries.
