SPEAKER INSTALLATION
MTX THUNDER Series speakers can be installed in both in-ceiling and in-wall applications allowing
them to blend within any interior decorating scheme. Speaker placement is critical to maximizing the
performance of the speakers within the system. Achieve the best stereo reproduction by installing
two loudspeakers an equal distance from the listener’s position and separated so that the speakers
and the listener form an equilateral triangle, with all sides of the triangle being the same length. In
multi-channel applications the same principle applies for both the front and rear speakers with the
addition of a center channel speaker directly in front of the listener’s position.

CUTTING THE SPEAKER HOLE
Before cutting any speaker holes, it is important to check for electrical wiring, plumbing, conduit,
studs, or other obstacles that may exist in the intended installation spot. Remember that the grille
and ange are larger than the speaker cut-out. Ensure there is room on all sides of the desired
location to accommodate the entire speaker.
1. Use the included cut-out template to mark the cut-out pattern on the wall or ceiling once it has
been determined to be a safe location with no obstructions.
2. Use a sabre saw, keyhole saw, or sharp utility knife to cut the hole following the traced pattern.
Use caution when cutting the hole to prevent unnecessary damage to the surrounding surface.
3. Clear the hole of any debris or other material that will prevent speaker installation.
INSTALLING THE SPEAKER
1. Connect the speaker wires previously run to the install location ensuring that the ends are stripped
and the inner copper wire is exposed. Press down on the compression terminals and insert the
speaker wire into each terminal ensuring that polarity is maintained with the positive wire
connected to the + terminal and the negative wire connected to the - terminal.
2. The speaker includes four front panel Phillips screws that operate the dog legs that will attach the
speaker to the ceiling or wall material.
3. Using a screwdriver or power drill on low setting turn each screw clockwise until the dog leg
rmly secures itself to the ceiling or wall material. Use caution to not overtighten the dog legs
causing them to crack or break.
4. Angle the tweeter toward the listening position if necessary to ensure proper imaging by pressing
on the outer edge of the tweeter opposite from the desired angle direction.
5. Attach either the round or square magnetic grille, make the speaker wire connections at the
source, and turn on a signal to test the speaker(s).
TWEETER LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
The output of the tweeter can be adjusted to compensate for speaker placement / listening positions
that are less than ideal. The 0dB setting is designed for maximum output of the entire system.
This can be used if a brighter sound is desired. The -3dB setting is designed to lower the tweeter
output from the 0db setting. This will soften the sound of the inwall speaker and give the smoothest
frequency response on axis.
PAINTING THE GRILLES
MTX THUNDER Series speakers include magnetic metal grilles that can be painted to match ceiling
or wall colors allowing them to blend into the room. Spray application will provide excellent results.
The cloth inserts in the grilles should be removed before the grilles are painted and they should be
placed back in the grilles once the paint is dry.
