The External Stereo Microphone
ªInserting a Battery
1Remove the battery cover from the
microphone.
≥Press the [ ] mark on the cover in the
direction of arrow 1and slide the cover in
the direction of arrow 2.
2Insert the Battery with the (j) end first as
shown in the figure.
≥Be sure to insert the Battery with the (j)
and (i) ends facing the proper directions.
3Replace the battery cover.
≥When the battery is exhausted, purchase a
new “AAA“, “UM-4“or “R03“type battery and
insert it in the same way as explained above.
≥Do not short-circuit the battery.
≥Remove the Battery if you will not use the
microphone for one month or longer.

Movie Camera
1Attach the microphone to the Movie
Camera shoe.
1) Loosen the Shoe Lock.
2) Attach the microphone.
3) Firmily tighten the Shoe Lock.
2Connect the Stereo Mini-Plug Cord to the
[EXT MIC] (28) socket.
≥You can adjust the microphone angle within
the range shown in the figure.
≥Hold the Shoe Lock portion when attaching
and removing the microphone.
≥Be sure to set the Movie Camera power to
[OFF] before connecting the microphone.
ªUsing the External Stereo
Microphone
1Set the [OFF/MONO/STEREO] Switch (53)
to [MONO] or [STEREO].
[OFF]: Turn off the microphone power.
[MONO]: Records sound in front of the
movie camera in monaural.
[STEREO]: Records sound in a wide area in
stereo.
≥Although you can change the setting of the
[OFF/MONO/STEREO] Switch while
recording, the sound of the switch being
changed may be recorded. Pause your
recording before changing the setting of this
switch.
≥When the [OFF/MONO/STEREO] Switch is
changed from [OFF] to [MONO] or [STEREO],
the [BATTERY] Lamp (54) will light temporarily
if there is still plenty of power in the battery. If
the [BATTERY] Lamp does not light
temporarily, replace the battery with a new
one.

Changing the [WIND CUT OFF/ON] Switch
The microphone is equipped with a wind shield
that is designed to cut down wind noise, but
when the wind is so strong that even the wind
shield is not adequate to keep down the noise,
set the [WIND CUT OFF/ON] Switch (55) to
[ON] to further reduce the wind noise.
[OFF]: The microphone should usually be used
with this position.
[ON]: Set the [WIND CUT OFF/ON] Switch to
this position to reduce wind noise or
bass noise.
≥Although you can change the setting of the
[WIND CUT OFF/ON] Switch while recording,
the sound of the switch being changed may be
recorded. Pause your recording before
changing the setting of this switch.
≥For other notes concerning this item, see -68-.
The Remote Controller
ªInserting a Button-type Battery
Before using the Remote Controller, insert the
supplied button-type battery.
1While pressing the Stopper 1, pull out the
Battery Holder.
2Insert the button-type battery with the (i)
marking facing upward.
3Insert the Battery Holder into the Remote
Controller.
≥When the button-type battery is exhausted,
replace it with a new CR2025 battery. (A
battery is normally expected to last about
1 year. However, it depends on operation
frequency.)
≥Make sure to match the poles correctly when
inserting the battery.
CAUTION
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly
replaced. Replace only with the same or
equivalent type recommended by the equipment
manufacturer. Discard used batteries according
to manufacturer’s instructions.
WARNING
Risk of fire, explosion and burns. Do not
recharge, disassemble, heat above 100xC or
incinerate. Keep the Button-Type battery out of
the reach of children. Never put Button-Type
battery in mouth. If swallowed call your doctor.

ªUsing the Remote Controller
1Direct the Remote Controller to the
Remote Control Sensor (3) of the Movie
Camera and press an appropriate button.
≥Distance from the Movie Camera: Within
approximately 5 metres
≥Angle: Within approximately 15oin the
vertical and horizontal directions from the
central axis
≥The above operative ranges are for indoor
use. Outdoors or under strong light, the Movie
Camera may not operate properly even within
the above ranges.
≥Within a 1-metre range, you can also use the
Remote Controller on the LCD Monitor side of
the Movie Camera.
Selecting Remote Controller Modes
When 2 Movie Cameras are used
simultaneously, they can be operated
individually by selecting different Remote
Controller Modes.
≥If the Remote Controller Mode of the Movie
Camera and that of the Remote Controller do
not match, [REMOTE] Indication is displayed.
Setup on the Movie Camera:
Set [REMOTE] on the [OTHER FUNCTIONS]
Sub-Menu to the desired Remote Controller
Mode. (-45-)
Setup on the Remote Controller:
[VCR1]:
Press the [D] Button and [∫] Button

≥When the battery in the Remote Controller is
replaced, the mode is automatically reset to

≥The AC Mains Lead’s outlet plug does not fit
entirely into the AC Adaptor socket. A gap
will remain as shown 1.
2Connect the DC Input Lead to the [DC IN]
Socket (37) on the Movie Camera.
3Connect the DC Input Lead to the AC
Adaptor.
≥Before connecting or disconnecting the
power supply, set the [OFF/ON] Switch on
the Movie Camera to [OFF] and make sure
that [CAMERA/VCR] Lamps is not lit.
ªUsing the Battery
Before use, fully charge the Battery.
1Attach the Battery to the AC Adaptor and
charge it.
≥Since the Battery will not be charged when
the DC Input Lead is connected to the AC
Adaptor, disconnect it from the AC Adaptor.
≥The [POWER] Lamp and [CHARGE] Lamp
lights up, and charging starts.
≥When the [CHARGE] Lamp goes off,
charging is completed.
2Attach the charged Battery to the Movie
Camera.
Disconnecting the Power Source
Set the [OFF/ON] Switch (50) to [OFF] and,
disconnect the DC Input Lead or while pressing
the [PUSH] Button (35), slide the Battery
upward to disconnect it.
ªUsing the Car Battery Charger
If you use the Car Battery Charger (VW-KBD2E;
optional), you can supply power to the Movie
Camera and charge the battery inside your car.
For further information, refer to the instruction
manual of the Car Battery Charger.
Be sure to start the car engine before you
connect the Car Battery Charger, otherwise the
fuse may blow.

continuous recording at a temperature of 20oC
and humidity of 60%. If the Battery is charged
at a higher or lower temperature, the charging

Attaching the Shoulder Strap
We recommend that you attach the Shoulder
Strap before going out of doors to record so as
to avoid dropping the Movie Camera.
1Pull the end of the Shoulder Strap through
the Shoulder Strap Holder on the Movie
Camera.
2Fold the tip of the Shoulder Strap, run it
through the Shoulder Strap Length
Adjuster, and pull it.
≥Pull it out more than 2 cm 1from the
Shoulder Strap Length Adjuster so that it
cannot slip off.
Inserting a Cassette
1Slide the [<EJECT] Lever (43) to open the
Cover.
2Insert a Cassette.
3Close the Cover and press the
[PUSH LOCK] Button (45) to lock the
cover.

ªAccidental Erasure Prevention
Opening the accidental erasure prevention
slider 1on the cassette (by sliding it in the
[SAVE] arrow direction) prevents recording. To
enable recording, close the accidental erasure
prevention slider (by sliding it in the [REC] arrow
direction).

Turn on the power first and then select modes.

1Set the [OFF/ON] Switch (50) to [ON].

Using the Viewfinder/LCD Monitor
ªUsing the Viewfinder
Before using the Viewfinder, adjust the field of
view so that the displays inside the Viewfinder
become clear and easy to read.
1Pull out the Viewfinder and tilt it up.
≥The angular part of the Viewfinder can be
turned upward by 80xand downward by 38x.
≥Do not pull on the Eyecup to extend the
Viewfinder.

the picture while watching it.

Internal Lithium Battery Recharge
The internal lithium battery sustains the
operation of the clock. When the Date/Time
Indication becomes [--], the internal lithium
battery is exhausted.
1Connect the AC Adaptor to the Movie
Camera with the power turned off and then
connect to the AC Mains socket.
≥After charging for 4 hours, the built-in lithium
battery can power the clock for
approximately 3 months.
LP Mode
A desired recording speed can be selected with
[REC SPEED] on the [RECORDING SETUP]
Sub-Menu.
If LP Mode is selected, the recording time
becomes 1.5 times longer than that of SP
Mode.
Although the image quality does not decrease
with the LP Mode recording, mosaic-pattern
noise may appear on a playback image, or
some normal functions may be restricted.

The sound quality of the recorded sound can be

32 kHz 4 track” Mode, the original sound can be
recorded on 2 tracks in stereo, while the other

Holding the Movie Camera for
Recording
Normal Recording.
≥When walking while recording, keep both eyes
open so that you can see where you are going
and what is happening around you.
≥Place the Movie Camera on your right
shoulder and hold it firmly with both hands.
≥Hold the Eyecup of the Viewfinder as close as
possible to your right eye.
≥Take a firm stance with the legs slightly apart.
≥For stable images, it is recommended to use a
tripod (optional) whenever possible.

ªAbout White Balance Sensor
The White Balance Sensor (1) determines the
nature of the light source during recording.

be reflected off your hand or object, possibly
causing the White Balance sensor to operate
incorrectly and changing the colouring.
Outside of the effective range of Automatic
White Balance Adjustment, the image will

Manual Shutter Speed Adjustment
It is useful for recording fast-moving subjects.
1Set the [AUTO/MANUAL/PROG.AE] Switch
(15) to [MANUAL].
≥The [MNL] Indication appears.
2Press the [PUSH] Dial (14) until the Shutter
Speed Indication appears.
3Turn the [PUSH] Dial (14) to adjust the
shutter speed.
Range of Shutter Speed Adjustment
1/50–1/8000 s
The standard shutter speed is 1/50 s.
Selecting a speed closer to [1/8000] causes the
shutter speed to be faster.
To Resume Automatic Adjustment
Set the [AUTO/MANUAL/PROG.AE] Switch to
[AUTO].

Manual Iris Adjustment
(F Number)
You can use this function when the screen is too
bright or too dark.
1Set the [AUTO/MANUAL/PROG.AE] Switch
(15) to [MANUAL].
≥The [MNL] Indication appears.
2Press the [PUSH] Dial (14) until the Iris
Indication appears.
3Turn the [PUSH] (14) Dial to adjust the iris.
Range of Iris Adjustment
CLOSE (Closed), F16, ..., F2.0,
OP (Opened)i0dB, ..., OPi18dB
When the Gain-up Mode [GAINUP] (-55-) is
used, Iris adjustment is by OPi15dB.
When a value closer to [CLOSE] is selected, the
image becomes darker.
When a value closer to [OPi18dB] is selected,
the image becomes brighter.
The value to which idB is attached indicates a
Gain-up value. If this value is too large, the
quality of the image deteriorates.
To Resume Automatic Adjustment
Set the [AUTO/MANUAL/PROG.AE] Switch to
[AUTO].

Manual Focus Adjustment
Focus can be adjusted manually for recording in
a situation where auto focus may not function
well.
1Set the [AUTO/MANUAL/PROG.AE] Switch
(15) to [MANUAL].
≥The [MNL] Indication appears.
2Press the [FOCUS] Button (19).
≥The [1MF] Indication (Manual Focus Mode)
appears.
3Turn the Focus Ring (7) to adjust the
focus.
In the following cases, the Focus Ring
cannot be used.
≥When the Menu Screen is displayed.
≥When you are adjusting the White Balance
shutter speed or Iris.
To Resume Automatic Adjustment
Set the [AUTO/MANUAL/PROG.AE] Switch to
[AUTO] or press the [FOCUS] Button.
