SWING FRAMES
Arch (3-1/2” and 5”), Tire, Bi-Pod, Tri-Pod (8’ and 10’ Height), Single 5” Post
PRE-INSTALLATION CHECK:

Before beginning installation, make sure that you have read and understand the Installation Introduction
manual that was supplied to you. If you did not receive a copy, or if you have a question regarding anything
covered in this manual, contact your local sales representative.

NOTE: Concrete must have a minimum rating of 2,500 psi and must be mixed per
manufacturer’s recommendations.
NOTE: Swing chains and seats are sold separately.

STEP 1
Refer to PLAN VIEW and FOOTING LAYOUT to locate swing frame.
STEP 2
Excavate footing as shown in FOOTING LAYOUT and FOOTING DETAIL. Place a 2” spacer block in the
bottom of each hole.
STEP 4
Verify that swing frame is level and plumb in footings and that it is at correct height. Center of top bar
needs to be 96” above nished surfacing. Pour concrete in footings to correct level. NOTE: Concrete
must have a minimum rating of 2,500 psi and must be mixed per manufacturer’s recommendations. Fill
remainder of hole with dirt. Allow concrete to harden for at least 48 hours before use!
STEP 5
Install appropriate age level sticker on swing frame. Full bucket seats require a 2-5 label - all other
seats require a 5-12 label. For safety reasons, do not attach swing chains or seats to swing frame until
playground is ready to open. NOTE: Swing seats and chains sold separately.

STEP 3
Select two arched swing frame ends, top bar(s), two 1/2”x3/4” set screws per connection and swing frame
middle section(s) if applicable. Set swing frame pieces into place in footing holes and brace into position.
Select one top bar and four set screws. Slide top bar over stub of swing frame end and hold in place with
pre-drilled holes and nuts facing down. Secure using two set screws (see Detail A). Repeat for other side
of top bar and swing frame middle or end. Repeat for other top bars and frame pieces if applicable.

STEP 6 - for TIRE SWING FRAMES ONLY
Select SH-51 tire swivel assembly. Center SH-51 on swing top bar. NOTE: Center of SH-51 will be
92-5/8” from center of vertical post. Attach SH-51 to top bar of swing frame by inserting bolts down
through swivel halves. Secure bottom using provided nuts (see Detail B). Repeat for other SH-51.

BI-POD and TRI-POD SWING FRAME
STEP 1
Refer to PLAN VIEW and FOOTING LAYOUT to locate swing frame.

STEP 2
Excavate footing as shown in FOOTING LAYOUT and FOOTING DETAIL. Place a 2” spacer block in
the bottom of each hole.
STEP 3
Select top rail(s) of swing frame (2-3/8”x132”), two end yokes and center yoke(s) if applicable. Insert top
rail(s) fully into longest leg of each swing yoke, then install and tighten set screws (see Detail A and B).
STEP 4
Select top rail assembly and swing legs. NOTE: The standard swing legs (2-3/8”x144”) are used for
bi-pod swing frames and side legs of the 8’ tri-pod frame. The 2-3/8”x168” swing legs are used for the 10’
tri-pod swing. The swing legs with bend are used for the ends of the tripod (2-3/8”x136” with bend for the
8’ tri-pod and 2-3/8”x168” with bend for the 10’ tri-pod). NOTE: Bent end inserts into swing yoke. With
top rail assembly laying on ground, insert swing legs fully into legs of swing yokes. Install and tighten set
screws (see Detail A).

STEP 5
For each bay, select four swing hanger assemblies (PL-SH-23’s). Attach PL-SH-23’s to top rail so that
centers of each swing hanger for each swing are at least 20” apart (see Detail B). NOTE: All other side
to side measurements will need to be set and veried after swing seats are installed (swing seats and
chains are sold separately).

Using adequate manpower, turn swing frame upright and set into place in footings. Center of top bar
needs to be 96” above nished surfacing (120” if a 10’ tri-pod frame is installed). Pour concrete in footings
to correct level. Fill remainder of hole with dirt NOTE: Concrete must have a minimum rating of 2,500 psi
and must be mixed per manufacturer’s recommendations. Fill remainder of hole with dirt. Allow concrete
to harden for at least 48 hours before use!

Install appropriate age level sticker on swing frame. Full bucket seats require a 2-5 label - all other
seats require a 5-12 label. For safety reasons, do not attach swing chains or seats to swing frame until
playground is ready to open. NOTE: Swing seats and chains sold separately.
BI-POD and TRI-POD SWING FRAME (continued)

BI-POD and TRI-POD SWING FRAME ADD-A-BAY
STEP 1
Remove appropriate end yoke and end poles. Replace with middle yoke.
STEP 2
Excavate footing for additional suport posts and set in place. After frame has been assembled and all
parts are tted together properly with top rails level and all posts fully inserted into swing yokes, tighten
all hardware.
STEP 3
Pour concrete in footings to correct level. Fill remainder of hole with dirt NOTE: Concrete must have a
minimum rating of 2,500 psi and must be mixed per manufacturer’s recommendations. Fill remainder of
holes with dirt. Allow concrete to harden for at least 48 hours before use!
STEP 4

SINGLE 5” POST SWING FRAME
STEP 1
Refer to PLAN VIEW and FOOTING LAYOUT to locate swing frame.

STEP 2
Excavate footing as shown in FOOTING LAYOUT and FOOTING DETAIL. Place a 2” spacer block in the
bottom of each hole.
STEP 3
Select two vertical posts with caps (5”x144”), two 5”x5” receivers, two 5” saddles, eight 3/8”x1-3/4” security
TORX bolts and eight 3/8”x1/2” rectangular weld nuts. With posts laying on ground, attach one receiver
and one saddle to top of each post (even with edge of cap) using four bolts and four nuts (see Detail A).
NOTE: Bolts will be inserted through saddle (weld nuts through receiver). Make sure both sides of saddle/
receiver are evenly spaced. No more than 2 threads may be showing. Tighten hardware.

STEP 4
If swing frame is a multi-bay, select post(s) with cap (5”x144”), 5”x5” receivers (two per post), 3/8”x2”
security TORX bolts and 3/8”x1/2” rectangular weld nuts (four of each per middle post). Attach receivers
to top of post (even with edge of cap) using bolts and nuts (see Detail B). Make sure both sides of saddle/
receiver are evenly spaced. No more than 2 threads may be showing. Tighten hardware. These will be
the middle swing posts.

STEP 6
Select 1/4”x1” drive pins (one per saddle and two per receiver). Drill one 1/4” hole in each post through
back of each saddle and two 1/4” diagonal holes through opposite sides of each receiver in the at area
by attachment hardware (see Detail B and Detail C). NOTE: Drill hole at top on one side of receiver and
at bottom on other side. Place drive pins in holes and tap into place.

Pour concrete into footings to correct level. NOTE: Concrete must have a minimum rating of 2,500 psi

STEP 1
Refer to PLAN VIEW and FOOTING LAYOUT to locate position of add-a-bay swing frame.
STEP 2
Excavate footing as shown in FOOTING LAYOUT and FOOTING DETAIL. Place a 2” spacer block in the
bottom of hole.
STEP 3
Remove existing saddle from the vertical post where the add-a-bay will attach. Replace it with one of the
receivers from the new add-a-bay kit. Attach new receiver to existing receiver using four 3/8”x2” security
TORX head bolts and four 3/8”x1/2” rectangular weld nuts (see Detail A) to make a new swing middle.
Make sure both sides of saddle/receiver are evenly spaced. No more than 2 threads may be showing.
Tighten hardware. NOTE: Drive pins will be installed in Step 6.

Select ve 1/4”x1” drive pins. Drill one 1/4” hole in each post through back of saddle and two 1/4” diagonal
holes through opposite sides of each receiver in the at area by attachment hardware (see Details A, B
and C). NOTE: Drill hole at top on one side of receiver and at bottom on other side. Place drive pins in
holes and tap into place.

Verify that top bar is at same height as existing swing and that it is level and vertical post is plumb. Pour
concrete into footing to correct level. NOTE: Concrete must have a minimum rating of 2,500 psi and

SWING DETAIL
Measure up 60” from top of nished surfacing. Run string line from end to end of swing frame at this
height.
The horizontal distance between adjacent to-fro swings at rest shall be no less than 24” when measured
at 60” above the protective surfacing.
The horizontal distance between the supporting structure and the adjacent to-fro swing seat shall be no
less than 30” when measured at 60” above the protective surfacing.
Also, once seats are installed, they must be at least 12” above the nished surfacing.
NOTE: All of these measurements need to be taken when swings are occupied my maximum
users.
