qualified installer, service agency or the gas
supplier.
Do not use this furnace if any part has been under
water. A flood-damaged furnace is extremely dan-
gerous. Attempts to use the furnace can result in
fire or explosion. A qualified service agency should
be contacted to inspect the furnace and to replace
all gas controls, control system parts, electrical
parts that have been wet or the furnace if deemed
necessary.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Installing and servicing of heating equipment can be hazardous due to gas and elecuicat components. Only trained and qualified
personnel should install, repair, or service heating equipment.
Untrained personnel can perfol_n basic maintenance functions such as cleaning and replacing air filters. All other operations must
be perfol_ned by trained service personnel. Observe safety precantions in this manual, on tags, and on labels attached to the ftunace
and other safety precautions that may apply.
Recognize safety information. This is the safety-alert symbol z_x.When you see this symbol on the fmnace and in ins_uctions or
manuals, be alert to the potential for personal injmy.
Understand the signal words DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTE. DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION me used
with the safety-alert symbol. DANGER identifies the most serious hazards which will result in severe personal injmy or death.
WARNING signifies hazards which could result in personal injmy or death. CA[ TION is used to identity tmsafe practices which
may result in minor personal injmy or product and property damage. NOTE is used to highlight suggestions which will result in
enhanced installation, reliability, or operation.
To minimize the possibility of serious personal injmy, fire, damage to your fm_nace, or improper operation, carehflly follow these
safety rules which apply to both direct-vent and non-dhect vent applications:
Yore new gas ftunace may have been installed in 1 of 2 ways, as a direct-vent (2-pipe) application or as a non-dhect vent (1-pipe)
application.

Inanon-dhectvent(1-pipe)application,yotuflunaceusesairfromadjacenttotheflunaceforcombustionandventsfluegastothe
outdoors.Thistypeofapplicationwilthaveonly1piperunningfromtheflunacetotheoutdoors.(SeeFig.3.)Theotherpipewill
terminateinthesamespaceastheflunaceandisthesourceofcombustionahforyourfurnace.Therefore,theflunacemustnotbe
enclosedinanairtightroomorbesealedbehindsoliddoors.Itmusthaveadequateahflowforefficientcombustionandsateventi-
lation.DonotobsUuctthecombustion-ahpipeinanyway.Theventpipemustterminateoutsidethestructureandmustnotbe
obstructedinanyway.Donotblockorobstructairopeningso1spacearoundflunace.

• Keep the mea around your flunace clear and flee of combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable liquids and vapors.

• Do not cover the flunace, store trash or debris near it, o1in any way block the flow of flesh air to the unit.
In addition to the safety rules above, make sme that the following combustion-air requirements me met for non-dhect vent applica-
tions:
• Combustion air must be clean and uncontaminated with chlorine o1 fluorine. These compounds are present in many products
around the home, such as: water softener salts, laundry bleaches, detelgents, adhesives, paints, varnishes, paint strippers, waxes,
and plastics.
• Make sme the combustion air for yore ftunace does not contain any of these compounds. During remodeling be sme the combustion
ah is flesh and uncontaminated. If these compounds are bmned in your flunace, the heat exchangers may deteriorate.
• A ftunace installed in an attic o1other insulated space must be kept flee and ctem of insulating material. Examine the ftunace mea
when the ftunace is installed o1 when insulation is added. Some insulation materials may be combustible.
• Should the gas supply tail to shut off o1 if overheating occms, shut off the gas valve to the flunace before shutting off etectaical
supply.
This flnnace contains SAFETY DEVICES which must be MANUALLY RESET. If the flunace is left unattended for an extended
period of time, have it checked periodically for proper operation. This precaution will prevent problems associated with no heat, such
as frozen water pipes, etc. See "Before You Request a Selwice Call" section in this manual.

Do not keep combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable liquids or vapors around your furnace.

WARNING:
FIRE AND UNIT OPERATION HAZARD
Failure to follow this warning could result in fire, personal injury/death or property damage.
For proper and safe operation the furnace needs air for combustion and ventilation. Do not block or obstruct
the openings on the furnace, air openings to the area in which the furnace is installed, and the space around
the furnace.
Examine the furnace installation monthly to determine that:
1. All flue gas canying meas external to the furnace (i.e. chimney, vent connector) are clear and free of obstructions.
2. The vent connector is in place, slopes upwmd and is physically sound without holes or excessive COllOsion.
3. The return-air dnct connection(s) is physically sound, is sealed to the furnace casing, and terminates outside the space
containing the furnace.
4. The physical support of the furnace is sound without sagging cracks, gaps, etc. mound the base.
5. There me no obvious signs of deterioration of the furnace.
6. The burner flames are in good adjustment. (See Fig. 5.)

STARTING AND SHUTTING DOWN YOUR FURNACE
Instead of a continuously bmning pilot flame which wastes valuable energy, your flunace uses an automatic, hot smface ignition
system to light the burners each time the thermostat starts your ftunace.
Follow these important safeguards:

•Never attempt to light the burners mannally with a match or other sotuce of flame.
•Read and follow the operating instructions on the inside of main flunace door, especially the item that reads as follows:
Wait 5 minutes to ctem out any gas. Then smell for gas, including nero the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow "B" in the safety
infolrnation above on this flunace label. If you don't smell gas, go to the next step.
•If a suspected malflmction occurs with yore gas control system, such as the bmners not lighting when they should, refer to the
shutdown procedmes on the inside of main flunace door, or in the "Shutting Down Yore Furnace" section, and call yotu dealer as
soon as possible.

WARNING:

Failure to follow this warning could result in a fire or explosion, and personal injury/death or property damage.
Should the gas supply fail to shut off or if overheating occurs, turn off the manual gas valve to the furnace
BEFORE turning off the electrical supply. (See Fig. 8.)
CHECK AIR FILTER: Before attempting to start yore flunace, be sme the ttunace air filter is clean and in place. See "Perfolrning
Routine Maintenance" section in this manual. Then proceed as follows:
STEPS FOR STARTING YOUR FURNACE
1. Set yore room thel]nostat to the lowest temperatme setting. (See Fig. 7.)
2. Close the external manual gas valve. (See FI_. 8.)
3. Turn OFF electrical supply to the furnace. (See Fig. 9.)

4. Remove the main furnace door. (See Fig. 10.)
5. Gas valve wilt have a control switch to turn ON or OFE Tmn control switch on the gas control to the OFF position and wait 5
lmnutes. (See FI_. 11.) Then smell for gas, inctudin_ nero the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow operating instructions on
main flunace door.

6. Atter waiting 5 mimltes, tmn control switch on the gas control to the ON position. (See FI_. 12.)
7. Replace main furnace door. (See FI_. 13.)

8. Turn ON electrical supply to the furnace and wait 1 minute. (See FI_. 14.)

9. Open external manual gas valve. (See FI_. 15.)
10. Set the room thelrnostat to a temperature slightly above room temperature. (See FI_. 16.) This wilt automatically signal the
furnace to start.

11. When the fm_ace receives the sta11signal, the hot sm-titceigniter at the main btu_ers is automatically heated for 15 to 20 sec. When
the microprocessor conm31verifies that there is sufficient heat to ignite, the gas valve pelmits gas to flow to the main bmners. Ariel
ignition and a time delay of approximately 60 sec, the flunace blower starts.
NOTE: If the burners tNt to ignite after 4 attempts, the flunace conlaol system will lock out. If lockout occms, the main burners t=ail
to light, or blower does not come on, shut down the flunace and call your dealer tk3rselwice.
12. Set your thermostat to the temperature that satisfies your comtk3rtreqnkements.
'I ' ' 5S[ GGESTION: Setttn_ the thermostat back a few degrees and compensating tk3rthe difference with wmrner clothing can
make a big difference in yore fuel consumption. The few degrees at the top of your thermostat "comtk3rt level" me the most
costly degrees to obtain.
When room temperatme drops below the temperature selected on the thelanostat, the tin, ace will be switched on automatically.
When room temperature reaches the temperature selected on the thelrnostat, the ftunace will be switched off automatically.
Some thermostats have a FAN mode with 2 selections, AUTO and ON. When thermostat is set to AUTO, the furnace blower
cycles on and off. In ON mode, the furnace blower runs contim_ously. Continuous t=ankeeps the temperature level in your
home more evenly balanced. It also permits the indoor air to be continuously filtered.
SHUTTING DOWN YOUR FURNACE
Should you need to shut down your flunace tk,l sex-viceor maintenance, you will need to turn the flmmce off.

The tk,tlowing procedures must be tk,llowed:
1. Set your room thermostat to the lowest temperature setting. (See Fig. 17.)
2. Close the external manual gas valve. (See Fig. 18.)
3. Turn off electrical supply to the furnace. (See Fig. 19.)
4. Remove mahl fmnace dool: (See Fig. 10.)
5. Turn control switch on the gas conlaol to OFF position. (See Fig. 20.)

7. If the furnace is being shut down because of a malfunction, call your dealer as soon as possible.

Furnace is not to be installed, operated, and then turned off and left turned off in an unoccupied structure dur-
ing winter. (See "Heading South for the Winter?" procedures in maintenance section on page 11).
PERFORMING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
NOTE: The qualified installer or agency must use only factory-authorized replacement pm-ts,kits, and accessories when modifying
or repairing this product.
Installing and servicing heating equipment can be hazmdous due to gas and electrical components.
Only taained and qualified personnel should install, repah, or service heating equipment. Untrained personnel can perform basic
maintenance flmctions such as cleaning and replacing aft filters.
All other operations must be perfolaned by trained and qualified service agency personnel. Observe safety precaufions in this manual,
on tags, and on labels attached to the flunace, and other safety precautions that may apply.
With proper maintenance and care, your flunace wilt operate economically and dependably. Instructions for basic maintenance me
found on this and the following pages. However, before beginning maintenance, follow these safety precaufions:
WARNING:
ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD
Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury/death.
Turn off electrical power supply to your furnace before removing the main furnace door to service or perform
maintenance.
CAUTION:
CUT HAZARD
Failure to follow this caution may result in minor personal injury.
Although special care has been taken to minimize sharp edges, be extremely careful when handling parts or
reaching into the furnace.
FILTERING OUTTROUBLE
CAUTION:
UNIT PERFORMANCE HAZARD
Failure to follow this caution may result in product damage.
Never operate your furnace without a filter in place. Doing so may damage the furnace blower motor. An accu-
mulation of dust and lint on internal parts of your furnace can cause a loss of efficiency.
A dflty ah filter will cause a loss of ail£OW in yore duct system. When excessive loss of aftflow occms, the fmnace may cycle on its
safety controls. If this condition is left tmattended, the flunace wilt eventually lock out. It is recommended that the flunace filter be
checked every 3 or 4 weeks and cleaned if necessm-y.
If installed with t=actory-specified disposable media filter, check or replace filter before each heating and cooling season. Replace
disposable media filter at least once a year.
The air filter is nolanalty located in the blower compm-tment. (See Fig. 1.) If the air filter has been installed in another location, contact
your dealer for insln_ctions. To inspect, clean, and/or replace the ah filter(s), follow these steps:
1. Turn off electrical supply to the flunace. (See Fig. 21 .)
2. Remove main furnace door. (See Fig. 22.)
3. Remove blower access panel. (See Ft_. 23.)
NOTE: It will be necessm-y to remove 2 screws.

4. Remove air filter fi_omflu_nace.
• AIR FILTER(S) LOCATED IN END OF FURNACE:
a. Slide air filter retainer sideways until it is fiee of latch. (See Fig. 24.)
b. Slide air filter out of flunace. (See Fig. 25.)

• AIR FILTER LOCATED IN SIDE OF FURNACE:
a. Remove air filter retainer fiom latch. (See Fig. 26.)
b. Gently remove ah filter and cmefully turn the dirty side up (if dirty) to avoid spilling dirt fiom the filter. (See Fig. 27.)

5. Inspect the filter. It tom, replace it.
NOTE: If washable filter that was shipped with the ftunace has been replaced with an electronic ah cleaner (EAC), refer to the EAC
Owner's Manual for maintenance infolrnation.
6. If washable filter, wash filter (if dh-ty) in a sink, bathtub, or outside with a gaden hose. Always use cold tap water. A mild liquid
detergent may be used if necessay. Spray water tlm)ugh filter in the opposite direction of ahflow. Allow filter to chy.
7. Reinstall clean air filter.
8. Reinstall filter retainer.
9. Replace blower access panel and main flunace door with two screws. (See Fig. 28 and 29.) Tmn on electrical supply to the
tmnace. (See Ft_. 30.)

If your furnace ah filter needs to be replaced, be sme to use a factory authorized filter of the same size that was originally supplied.
Use the fl_rnace air filter table and compare your furnace size with the propel filter size.

WARNING:
PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD

Use care when cutting support rods in filters to protect against flying pieces and sharp rod ends. Wear safety
glasses, gloves, and appropriate protective clothing.
COMBUSTION AREA AND VENT SYSTEM
Visually inspect the combustion mea and vent system before each heating season. Make sure that all PVC pipes leading into the
combustion aea and vent me free from any cracks and sags.
WARNING:
CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING HAZARD
Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury or death.
If holes are found in the pipes or if any portion has become disconnected, toxic fumes can escape into your home.
DO NOT OPERATE YOUR FURNACE. Call your dealer for service.
Check the combustion-ak intake adjacent to the fiunace o1 outside your home tbr blockage. Also check the vent pipe on the outside
of your home tSr blockage.
When dirt, soot, scale, or rest is allowed to build up, your fiunace can suffer a loss of efficiency and pertbnn improperly. Accumu-
lations on the main burners can result in firing out of normal seqnence. This delayed ignition creates an alarningly loud sound.
CAUTION:
UNIT OPERATION HAZARD
Failure to follow this caution may result in minor property damage.
If your furnace makes an especially loud noise when the main burners light, shut down your furnace and call
your dealer.
To inspect the combustion area and vent system, you will need a flashlight. Refer to Fig. 1, and proceed as tbllows:
1. Turn off gas and electrical supplies to the fi_rnace and remove the main furnace door. (See Ft_. 8 and 9.)
2. Remove burner enclosme fiont. (See Fig. 31 or 32.)
Inspect the gas burners, igniter mea, and remainder of fiunace tSr dirt, soot, rust, or scale.
WARNING:
Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury or death.
If dirt, rust, soot, or scale accumulations are found, call your dealer. Do not operate your furnace.

3. Inspect the combustion-air and vent PVC pipes for sags, holes, cracks, water leaks, blockage or disconnections. Horizontal
portions of vent pipe must slope downward toward furnace. i_1

4. Reinstall burner enclosure flont.
5. If your furnace is fiee of the above conditions, replace main furnace door and tmn on electrical and gas supplies to the
furnace. (See Fig. 13, 14, and 15.)
6. Start your furnace and observe its operation. Watch the bmner flames to see if they are clear blue, almost transpment. (See
Fig. 33.) If you observe a suspected malfunction, or the burner flames are not clear blue, call your dealer.

HEADING SOUTH FOR THE WINTER?
DON T FORGET YOI_R FURNACE:
CAUTION:
UNIT AND PROPERTY DAMAGE HAZARD
Failure to follow this caution may result in damage to the furnace and other property damage.
If the furnace is installed in an unconditioned space where the ambient temperatures may be 32°F or lower,
freeze protection measures must be taken to prevent minor property or product damage.
Since the furnace uses a condensing heat exchanger, some water will accumulate in the unit as a result of the heat transfer process.
Tlaerefore, once it has been operated, it cannot be anned off and left off for an extended period of time when temperatures will reach
32°F or lower unless winterized. Follow these procedmes to winterize yore fmnace:
1. Obtain propytene glycol (RV/swimming pool antifreeze or equivalent).

Do not use ethylene glycol (Prestone II antifreeze coolant or equivalent). Failure of plastic components may
occur,
2. Turn off electrical supply to your furnace. (See Fig. 21 .)
3. Remove main furnace door. (See Fig. 22.)
4. Remove upper inducer housing drain connection cap. (See Fig. 34.)
5. Connect field-supplied 1/2-in. ID tube to upper indncer housing drain connection.
6. Insert field-supplied funnel into robe.
7. Pour 1 qumt of antifreeze into funnel/robe. Antifreeze should run tl_ough inducer housing, overfill condensate trap, and flow
into open field drain. (See Fig. 35.)

8. Remove flmnel and robe from inducer housing and replace diain connection cap and clamp.
9. Replace main turnace door. (See Pig. 29.)

A CHECK-UP CHECKLIST
Your flu_ace represents an important investment in your family's comtSrt and yore home's value. To keep it pertblaning properly
and to prevent fllmre problems, have a trained service specialist give your flunace a professional check-up annually. The tSllowing
checklist can be used as a guideline to proper service:
•Inspect all flue gas passages, bm'ners, heat exchangers, coupling box(es), and inducer assembly.
• Inspect all combustion-ah and vent piping inside structure and pipe terminations outside the structure.
• Check gas pipes leading to and inside of yonu ftunace tbr leaks.
• Inspect and clean the blower motor and wheel.
NOTE: The inducer and blower motors ale pre-tubricated and require no additional lubrication. These motors can be identified by
the absence of oil polls on each end of the motor.
• Inspect and change or clean ah filter(s) if necessay.
• Inspect all supply- and remm-ah dncts tbr obslauctions, air leaks, and insulation. Remedy any problem when necessm-y.
• Inspect the remm-ah duct connection(s) at the flunace to enstue it is physically sound, sealed to the flunace casing, and tenrninates
outside the space containing the flunace.
• Inspect electrical wiring, connections, and components tbr loose connections.
•Pertblan an operational checkout to determine whether yonu tin, ace is working properly and if it reqnhes adjustments.
• Inspect all condensate &aln robes and condensate trap assembly tSr leaks. The condensate removal system should be cleaned
annnally by a qnalified service agency. Refer to the Selwice and Maintenance Instructions Guide tbr fluther intbnnation.
• Examine the physical suppo11 of the flunace. Suppo11 should be sound with no cracks, sagging, gaps, etc. around the base.
• Check flunace tbr any obvious signs of deterioration.
BEFOREYOU REQUEST A SERVICE CALL
It your flunace is not operating o1 not pel_brming properly, you may save the expense of a service call by checking a few things
yourself betbre calling for service.
NOTE: Record the LED status code BEFORE removing the blower access door or ttuning off 115-v power to the flunace. Removing
the blower access door or turning off the 115-v power will end the LED status code display and erase the code from the conlaol's
memory.
FOR INSI_FICIENT AIRFLOW:
• Check tSr dilly ah filter(s).
• Check tSr blocked rettun-ah or supply-ah oitles throughout yore home. Ensure they me open and unobstructed.
If problem still exists, call yore dealer tSr service.

IF FURNACE FAILS TO OPERATE:
Follow this checklist step by step, advancing to the next step only if flunace tails to start.
• Check thelanostat tbr proper temperattue. Is thermostat set above room temperattue?
• Is thermostat set on HEAT'?
• Check fi_ses and chcuit breakers. Is electrical supply on'?
• Is manual shutoff valve in gas supply pipe in open position'? (Follow start-up procedmes if you open gas valve.)
NOTE:Tmn off electrical supply betk3recontinuing with checklist.
• Is control switch on gas valve in ON position? (Follow stmt-up procedures if you must reset switch to ON.)
• Check manual reset flame rotlout switch located on the burner box. (See Fig. 1.) If furnace has experienced high temperature
conditions, this switch wilt shut off the furnace. Reset it by pushing the button on the switch. If it trips again, shut down the
%rnace and call for service. See "Shutting Down Your Furnace" section in this manual.
• Check tbr obsln_ctions mound the vent termination.

This fmnace has a light emitting diode (LED) status code display to aid the installer, service technician, o1homeowner while installing
o1 servicing the unit. The LED code can be seen by removing the main Nrnace door and viewing LED tlnough the view pog in the
blower access panel.
