Philips VIDEOPAC User manual

Newscaster
This Videopaccan be used to displayseveral messages onyour TV set. Carry out
the following instructions tostore a message.
Press RESET
A question mark is shownat the bottomleft of thescreen. This askswhat youwant
to do.
Press key 1
A square is shown on thescreen. Use the keyboard to enterthe basic messageto
be displayed(max. 73 characters). If your message is shorter than this, endwith
ENTER. An example: VIDEOPACCOMPUTER- FUN EXCITEMENTAND
EDUCATIONFOR THEWHOLEFAMILY. This is the message thatwill eventually
be displayed.
Press key 2
Type in the time (HH MMSS)whenyouwish the interrupt message to appear.If
you type e.g. 143010, the messagewill appear at10 seconds past 2.30pm.
If you enter 00for the hours, the interrupt messagewill be displayed at thegiven
number of minutes andseconds past each hour. For example 001530 gives
15½ minutes after eachhour.
Youcan insteaddisplay theinterrupt message morefrequently by typing 80for the
hours. If e.g. 802303 is typed in, the messagewill be displayed the nexttime the
clock reads 23 minutes past the hour, and repeated every 3 minutes.
When you have entered the time, a square appears on thescreen. Now enter the
interrupt message (max. 25characters). If message isshorter than this, endwith
ENTER. An example: TRY THE NEW VIDEOPAC NOW. This will be displayedfor
approximately 30 seconds each time.
Press key 3
Type in the actual time (HH MMSS). The 24-hour clockstarts runningwhen the last
figure is entered.
Press key 4
When you press this key, the basic messagewill be displayed,replaced(at the
specified times) by the interrupt message.If youwish tostop the display press any
key except RESET. The question mark will be displayed,and you can then press
key 5.
Press key 5
While the messages are displayed, the time of day is shown on thescreen. This is
replaced every few seconds by a row of zeroes.You canenter threewords here to
replace the time display. Type in 3words of 8 letters each. Thesewords should be
typecontinuously,with spaces where necessary. For example:
VIDEOPACCOMPUTERG7000 or JONES QUALITY PRODUCTS. If the lastword
is less than 8 letters,finish off withspaces.
You have now enteredyour messages. The last two keys allow you tochange the
colour on thescreen, and correct mistakes in your messages.
Key 6
Press one of thefollowing keys tochange the background colouron the TV set.

Key 7
The key can be used tocorrectmistakes in a message.A square is shown on the
screen, inwhichthe message letterswill be shown. Press the ENTERkey
repeatedly until youreach the part to bechanged, then enter thefirst new character.
Press ENTERand enter the next character, andso on. Thecomputerwill give a
buzz for each letter changed.
The basic messageis displayedfirst, and the the interrupt message. When all
changes are made, useENTERto step the charactercounter down tozero.
Note
When entering messages and times, you do not need toenter themin the above
order. Thusafter entering the basic message (key 1),youcan immediately change
the colour of thescreen(key 6).
Important
When RESET is pressed, all information enteredwill be erased.
Special characters for languages
The + - × ÷ = and CLEAR keys arereservedforspecial characters. (not usedwith
key 5).

For reference
Key 1
Enter basic message.
Key 2
Enter interrupt time (or 00...., 80....) and message.

Correct basic message using ENTERkey.
After playing
Each time a game is finished press RESET. "SELECT GAME" is shown on the
screen. Now:
1. Select another game.
2. Select another Videopac. Remove existingVideopacby placing one hand next to it,
and pulling handle upwards. ReplaceVideopac in its box.Refer now to intructions
for use of the next Videopac.
3. Plug aerialback into TV, and unplug theVideopac Computerfromthe mains.
Check procedure
If yoususpect afault in the equipment follow this procedure(with aVidepac
installed). Press RESET. The TV will emit a short sound, and"SELECT GAME"
should appear on your TV screen. If not, ensure that theequipment is set up
properly as detailed in the Instructions for Use (both of the equipment, and of the
Videopac used). If thefaultremains, take both the equipment and Videopacto your
dealer.
