BEFORE USE

•Thank you for buying this Pioneer product.

•Please read through this operating guide before using your

speaker system to optimize performance.

FRONT / CENTER / REAR SPEAKERS

•The nominal impedance of this speaker system is 8 ohms.

Connect the speaker system to a AV amplifier with a load

impedance rating ranging from 4 to 16 ohms

•In order to prevent damage to the speaker system resulting

from input overload, please observe the following precau-

tions:

•Do not supply signal to the speaker system in excess of the

maximum permissible input.

•When connecting or disconnecting cables, be sure amplifier

power is OFF.

•Do not use excessive amplifier volume if using a tone control

to emphasize high or low frequencies.

INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS

•Do not install these units near a stove or other heating

appliance, or put them in a place exposed to the sun. Such

locations may cause the cabinet to change color and the

speaker system to break down.

•If mounting to walls, examine them to confirm that their

strength is sufficient to bear the weight of the speaker system.

•This system is not provided with any hardware for installa-

tion, so select suitable components corresponding to the

construction of your walls.

•If you are unsure of the quality and strength of the walls,

consult a professional for advice.

CAUTION:

Pioneer will not be responsible for any accidents or damage that

may result from improper installation.

•The front and center speakers are magnetically shielded

for use near your television. However, in some cases, if

the speaker system is installed extremely close to the

screen of a television set, color distortion may occur. If this

happens, turn off the power switch of the television set,

and turn it on after 15 to 30 minutes. If the problem persists,

place the speaker system away from the television set.

POWERED SUBWOOFER

•Do not place a TV set on top of the cabinet.

•Do not spill liquid on the cabinet.

•Place the subwoofer at least 8 inches from any wall or curtain

in order to avoid heat build-up.

CAUTION:

Do not remove the front plastic cover. This should be performed

by a qualified technician.

Do not attempt to reach the amplifier or speaker driver through

the front openings.

ATTACHMENTS — Do not use attachments not

recommended by the product manufacturer as

they may cause hazards.

WATER AND MOISTURE — Do not use this

product near water — for example, near a

bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry

tub; in a wet basement; or near a swimming

pool; and the like.

ACCESSORIES — Do not place this product on an

unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table.

The product may fall, causing serious injury to a

child or adult, and serious damage to the

product. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod,

bracket, or table recommended by the

manufacturer, or sold with the product. Any

mounting of the product should follow the

manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a

mounting accessory recommended by the

manufacturer.

CART — A product and cart combination should be

moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force,

and uneven surfaces may cause the product

and cart combination to overturn.

VENTILATION — Slots and openings in the cabinet

are provided for ventilation and to ensure

reliable operation of the product and to protect

it from overheating, and these openings must

not be blocked or covered. The openings should

never be blocked by placing the product on a

bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This

product should not be placed in a built-in

installation such as a bookcase or rack unless

proper ventilation is provided or the

manufacturer’s instructions have been adhered

POWER SOURCES — This product should be

operated only from the type of power source

indicated on the marking label. If you are not

sure of the type of power supply to your home,

consult your product dealer or local power

company.

LOCATION – The appliance should be installed in a

stable location.

NONUSE PERIODS – The power cord of the

appliance should be unplugged from the outlet

when left un-used for a long period of time.

GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION

• If this product is equipped with a polarized

alternating current line plug (a plug having one

blade wider than the other), it will fit into the

outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If

you are unable to insert the plug fully into the

outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should

still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace

your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety

purpose of the polarized plug.

• If this product is equipped with a three-wire

grounding type plug, a plug having a third

(grounding) pin, it will only fit into a grounding

type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you

are unable to insert the plug into the outlet,

contact your electrician to replace your obsolete

outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the

grounding type plug.

POWER-CORD PROTECTION — Power-supply

cords should be routed so that they are not likely

to be walked on or pinched by items placed

upon or against them, paying particular

attention to cords at plugs, convenience

receptacles, and the point where they exit from

the product.

OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING — If an

outside antenna or cable system is connected to

the product, be sure the antenna or cable

system is grounded so as to provide some

protection against voltage surges and built-up

static charges. Article 810 of the National

Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides

information with regard to proper grounding of

the mast and supporting structure, grounding of

the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit,

size of grounding conductors, location of

antenna-discharge unit, connection to

grounding electrodes, and requirements for the

grounding electrode. See Figure A.

LIGHTNING — For added protection for this

product during a lightning storm, or when it is

left unattended and unused for long periods of

time, unplug it from the wall outlet and

disconnect the antenna or cable system. This

will prevent damage to the product due to

lightning and power-line surges.

POWER LINES — An outside antenna system

should not be located in the vicinity of overhead

power lines or other electric light or power

circuits, or where it can fall into such power

lines or circuits. When installing an outside

antenna system, extreme care should be taken

to keep from touching such power lines or

circuits as contact with them might be fatal.

OVERLOADING — Do not overload wall outlets,

extension cords, or integral convenience

receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or

electric shock.

OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY — Never push

objects of any kind into this product through

openings as they may touch dangerous voltage

points or short-out parts that could result in a

fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any

kind on the product.

SERVICING — Do not attempt to service this

product yourself as opening or removing covers

may expose you to dangerous voltage or other

hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service

personnel.

DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE — Unplug this

product from the wall outlet and refer servicing

to qualified service personnel under the

following conditions:

• When the power-supply cord or plug is

damaged.

• If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen

into the product.

• If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

• If the product does not operate normally by

following the operating instructions. Adjust only

those controls that are covered by the operating

instructions as an improper adjustment of other

controls may result in damage and will often

require extensive work by a qualified technician

to restore the product to its normal operation.

• If the product has been dropped or damaged in

• When the product exhibits a distinct change in

performance — this indicates a need for service.

REPLACEMENT PARTS — When replacement parts

are required, be sure the service technician has

used replacement parts specified by the

manufacturer or have the same characteristics

as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions

may result in fire, electric shock, or other

SAFETY CHECK — Upon completion of any service

or repairs to this product, ask the service

technician to perform safety checks to

determine that the product is in proper

operating condition.

CONNECTING YOUR SYSTEM

IMPORTANT:

Make sure all equipment is turned off before making any

connections.

POWER-CORDCAUTION

Handle the power cord by the plug. Do not pull out the plug by

tugging the cord. Never touch the power cord when your hands

are wet as this could cause a short circuit or electric shock. Do

not place the unit, a piece of furniture, etc., on the power cord.

Never make a knot in the cord or tie it with other cords. The

power cords should be routed such that they are not likely to

be stepped on. A damaged power cord can cause fire or give

you an electrical shock. Check the power cord periodically. If

you find it damaged, ask your nearest PIONEER authorized

service center or your dealer for a replacement.

PLACEMENT AND FINE TUNING

Correct placement is important for maximizing the sound

quality of your loudspeaker system. Take time to experiment

with positioning according to the guidelines below.

FRONT / CENTER / REAR SPEAKERS

Correct wiring of your loudspeakers is essential for achieving

the best sound quality. Be careful to ensure proper polarity of

connection.

Connect the supplied speaker wires to the receiver speaker

output terminals. Using the color directions below, connect

the non striped wire to the black (-) terminal and the gray

striped wire to the red (+) terminal for each channel. Connect

the other end of each wire to the input terminals at the rear of

each speaker. Connect the non striped wire to the black (-)

terminal and the gray striped wire to the red (+) terminal.

Depress the input terminal lever, and insert the tip of the wire

into the hole and then release the lever so that it springs back

into position. Take care that no stray strands of wire short

across between the terminals.

POWEREDSUBWOOFER

Connect the supplied RCA cable to subwoofer output on the

back of your receiver. Connect the other end to the LINE LEVEL

INPUT of your Subwoofer.

Connect the Subwoofer AC (power) plug to the AC (power)

outlet on the back of the Receiver. First check the rating of the

outlet on the receiver to make sure it is compatible with the

subwoofer rating.

If the Subwoofer is plugged directly into an AC outlet, the auto

function will operate under no-signal conditions and put the

subwoofer into standby. If you plan to leave the subwoofer un-

attended for extended periods of time, we reccomend that you

unplug the subwoofer for the AC outlet.

IMPORTANT:

The rear (surround) speakers are identified by a label on the

back of the speakers. They are not magnetically shielded, so

do not place near your television.

POWEREDSUBWOOFER

Sound spreads in all directions in the very low frequency range.

Human hearing cannot easily detect the source of very low

frequencies. Accordingly, we recommend the subwoofer be

placed in positions “A”, “B” or “C”. The optimum location will

be governed by your listening environment. Position “B” will

give the strongest bass but may sound overpowering, in which

case relocate the subwoofer to position “A” or “C”. Be sure to

provide a space of at least 8 inches (20cm) between the rear

of the subwoofer and the nearest wall.

FRONT SPEAKERS

For best results the loudspeaker should be positioned near ear

level and the loudspeakers separated a distance approximately

equal to the listening distance. Angling the loudspeakers inward

towards the listener will improve the image stability for non-

central listeners. Close proximity to a side or rear wall will

enhance the midbass performance, although too close

(particularly a corner location) and the bass may be unnaturally

high and image performance may be degraded.

CENTER SPEAKER

The loudspeaker may be positioned on top of or below the TV.

For best results align the front of the loudspeaker with the front

of the TV. If the loudspeaker is placed under the TV and very

close to the floor, then tilting upwards may be beneficial.

WALLMOUNTING

SEE INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS on page 1

Attach screw (or anchor) leaving a 1/8” (3mm) gap between

the screw head and the wall. Place the speaker so as to insert

the screw head though the keyhole slot in the bracket. Ensure

that the screw has fully engaged the small slot in the keyhole.

For best results the loudspeakers should be positioned at or

above ear level. Depending upon your room layout and

preferences, the left and right rear speakers should be

positioned on the side walls just the rear of the listening

position, or on the walls.

IMPORTANT:

Follow the instructions for your receiver and set the speakers

to SMALL in the 5.1 mode (Dolby Digital). This will ensure

that any bass signals are re-directed to the subwoofer where

they will be optimally reproduced. If you have a choice, set

the crossover frequency to 150Hz.

CAUTION:

The speakers are equipped with a protection device to protect

the transducers from extreme conditions. Under these

conditions the protection device will activate and stop the

speaker from producing sound. If this happens shut off the

system for 5-10 minutes and allow the protection device to

reset.

NON SKID PADS

If the front, center and rear speakers are placed on a hard

surface, such as wood or tile place four non skid pads on the

bottom surface of the speakers.

CABINET MAINTENANCE

Use a polishing cloth or dry cloth to wipe off dust and dirt.

When the cabinet is very dirty, clean with a soft cloth dipped in

some neutral cleanser diluted five or six times with water, and

then wipe again with a dry cloth. Do not use furniture wax or

cleaners.

Never use thinners, benzine, insecticide sprays and other

chemicals on or near the cabinets, since these will corrode

the surfaces.

SUBWOOFERREAR SECTION

OPERATING YOUR SYSTEM

Turn on your receiver with the level control initially at zero.

Now gradually increase the volume until you reach a com-

fortable listening level. WARNING:

Illuminates RED when the power is being supplied.

VOLUME LEVEL

Vo lume of subwoofer is adjusted with this knob. Turn this knob

clockwise to raise the level.

•Starting with “MIN“, turn this knob and raise the volume

slowly. If the unit is turned on with the volume set too high, it

could cause hearing and/or speaker damage. Do not turn

the volume up excessively high. The low frequency sound

is apt to be raised too high since it is less disturbing and

harder to detect than high frequencies. Caution must be

taken here since the amplifier and speaker will be clipped

when the output of the amplifier or receiver is increased

with the subwoofer level set to “MAX“.

this terminal with the supplied RCA cable.

TROUBLESHOOTING

FRONT / CENTER / REAR SPEAKERS

SYMPTOM PROBABLE CAUSE REMEDY

1. No power is being supplied

(Indicator does not light up when

power switch is turned on.)

•Power supply plug is not correctly

inserted.

•No power at wall outlet.

•Insert plug securely.

2. No sound

•Connect power supply to amplifier and

turn speaker switch on.

•Place the subwoofer a good distance from

speaker. Turn the LEVEL knob counter-

clockwise to lower volume.

•Start your volume control at a low setting.

•Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it comfortably

andclearly, and without distortion.

Once you have established a comfortable sound level:

•Set the dial and leave it there.

Taking a minute to do this now will help to prevent hearing

damage or loss in the future. After all, we want you listening for

alifetime.

WARRANTY PERIOD

For the period specified below from date of original retail purchase (the warranty period) from an authorized Pioneer dealer, Pioneer

Electronics (USA) Inc. (PUSA), and Pioneer Electronics of Canada, Inc. (POC) warrants that products distributed by PUSA in the

U.S.A., and by POC in Canada that fail to function properly under normal use due to a manufacturing defect when installed and

operated according to the operating instructions enclosed with the unit will be repaired or replaced with a unit of comparable value,

at the option of PUSA or POC, without charge to you for parts or actual repair work. Parts supplied under this warranty may be new

or rebuilt at the option of PUSA or POC.

This warranty covers the product during the warranty period whether in the possession of the original owner or any subsequent

owner. In the event service is required, the product must be delivered within the warranty period, transportation prepaid, fro m within

the Country of purchase as explained in this document. You will be responsible for removal and installation of the product.

WHAT'S NOT COVERED

This warranty does not cover any product which is used in any trade or business, or in an industrial or commercial application.

This warranty does not apply to any speaker that has been subjected to power in excess of its published power rating.

This warranty does not cover the cabinet or any appearance item, any damage to the product resulting from alterations or

modifications not authorized in writing by PUSA or POC, accident, misuse or abuse, or damage due to lightning or to power surges.

This warranty does not cover the cost of parts or labor which would be otherwise provided without charge under this warranty

obtained from any source other than a PUSA OR POC Authorized Service Company or other designated location. This warranty

does not cover defects or damage caused by the use of unauthorized parts or labor, or from improper maintenance.

ALTERED, DEFACED OR REMOVED SERIAL NUMBERS VOID THIS WARRANTY.

YOUR RIGHTS

PUSA and POC excludes any obligation on its part for incidental or consequential damages related to the failure of products to

function properly under the conditions set forth above.

IN THE U.S.A. - PUSA LIMITS ITS OBLIGATIONS UNDER ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE

IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TO A PERIOD NOT TO EXCEED

THE WARRANTY PERIOD. NO WARRANTIES SHALL APPLY AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW

LIMITATIONS ON HOW LONG AN IMPLIED WARRANTY LASTS, AND SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR

LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT

APPLY TO YOU. THIS WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, AND YOU MAY HAVE OTHER RIGHTS WHICH MAY

VARY FROM STATE TO STATE.

IN CANADA - EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED HEREIN, THERE ARE NO REPRESENTATIONS, WARRANTIES, OBLIGA-

TIONS OR CONDITIONS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE, APPLICABLE TO THIS PRODUCT.

TO OBTAIN SERVICE

PUSA and POC have appointed a number of Authorized Service Companies throughout the U.S.A., and Canada should your

product ever require service. To receive warranty service you will need to present your sales receipt or, if rented, your rental contract

showing place and date of original owner's transaction. Should it become necessary to ship your unit, you will need to package the

product carefully and send it, transportation prepaid by a traceable, pre-insured method, to an Authorized Service Company.

Carefully package the product using adequate padding material to prevent damage in transit. The original container is ideal for this

purpose. Include in the package your name, address, telephone number where you can be reached during business hours, a copy

of your sales receipt and a detailed description of the problem. PUSA or POC, as appropriate, will pay for the cost of returning the

repaired or replacement product to you within the Country of purchase.
