Installing the Back-upBatteries
1. Press downthe battery base cover and slideit downward
to remove.
2. Insert fourbatteries with the correct polarity asindicated
by the '+'and '-' symbols inside the component.
3. Place thebattery case cover back on theradio by sliding
it upwards untilit clicks into place.
The radio requiresfour (4) 1.5 Volt AA sizebatteries
for back-up powerwhen AC power fails (especially
during emergency) or is temporarily disconnected.
1. When theback-up battery is low, the LCD will
display icon.
2. It isrecommended to always power up theradio
with the suppliedAC adapter to maximize back
up battery lifetime.
3. Do notleave weak or dead batteries inthe battery
compartment; the batteriesmay leak and damage
the radio.
Connect the suppliedAC adapter to the radio's DCJack
and to astandard 120V AC wall outlet.
- Choose alocation nearing a window that isfacing the
direction the NOAA(National Oceanic andAtmospheric
Administration) broadcast iscoming from.
- Keep theradio away from obstructions such asa
refrigerator, ametal door, cabinet or wall,or a water pipe
hidden behind awall which wouldgreatly reduces the
radio's reception sensitivity.
- keep theradio away from sources of electricalnoise such
as motors, microwaveovens, and fluorescentlighting.
- The locationshould be close to a continuouspower outlet
which is notswitchable.

Setting Up the Radio
The radio offers you an extensive range offunctions
which are groupedin program menupages as shown below.
To access the programmenu page, press PROG key for two
seconds. Scroll with or key throughthe menu pages
and select themenu page bypressing ENTER key. Select
submenu pages andsettings of your choice in thesame way.
Press PROG key to returnto the previousmenu level, and
keep pressing PROG key to exit the program menupage.
If no keyare pressed for about 5 minutes,the radio will
exit program menupage automatically.Two-beep sound
indicates wrong keyis pressed.
Setting Date /Time
The date andtime must beset correctly since they will be
logged into theevent memory uponthe alert message
reception.

In order toreceive alerts, theradio must be set to the
correct weather channeland county code(s)(FIPS code) .
To get these informationfor your area, call the NWS
toll free number:1-888-NWS-SAME (1-888-697-7263),
or visit theNOAA web site:
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/indexnw.htm
In the aboveweb site, searchthe state and county for
your area andthen write downthe Channel (Frequency)
and county code(s). You may wantto obtain thecodes
for other localareas that youtravel through to work.
The radio memorycan store upto 26 county codes (FIPS
codes) to monitoralerts.
There are three(3) county options available for
your selection. Theyare:
1. ALL COUNTY CODES,
2. MULTIPLECOUNTY and
3. SINGLE COUNTY.

The radio initiallysets to the ALL COUNTY CODESby
default. Withthis option, the radio will respondto all
alerts regardless ofthe affected areas as long as the
channel is correctlyset.
If you wantto monitor alertsin more than one county
(area), the MULTIPLE COUNTY option would bethe
choice. You can storeup to 26 county codes inthe radio
memory. Themore the countycodes you store in, the
broader the areacoverage the radio will monitor and
vice versa.
If the SINGLE COUNTY option is selected,the radio
will monitor alertsonly affecting yourlocal county /
area. You must storethe county codein the first memory
location which isCOUNTY 01.
If the ALL COUNTY CODES option is selected,
this section iscompleted.
If there isno county codesstored in the memory, go
to next step.
6. Press or key to scrollmemory locations forcounty
code entry / edit.
7. Press ENTER key to select.
8. Press or key to inputthe desired code number.
9. Press keyto the nextdigit.
10. Repeat steps8 & 9 to input the2nd to 6th digit.
11. PressENTER key to save.
Press and hold or key willcontinuously
change the number. Release thekey to stop.
Repeat steps 6to 10 to enter the nextcounty code, ifany.
If any oneof the code digit is blank( _ ), the input
will not beupdated.
If there isno county codesstored in the memory, the
radio will re-setto ALL COUNTY CODES option
automatically.

Note

National WeatherService (NWS) Test Signals
Periodic test signals(Required Weekly Test or Required
Monthly Test) are sent out by NWStransmitter stations.
Such test signalsare used to let the usersto confirm their
alert radios inuse functioning properly.
Upon receiving thetest signal, the radio will displaythe
test message onthe LCD. The beep tone (fortest signals)
is disabled bydefault. You can enablethe beep tone in
program menu pageP6.
If the radiohas not received any messages (e.g.Test,
Alert or Non-Alertmessages) for consecutive 10 days,
the LCD willdisplay: RE-CHECK SET UP.
Receiving Alert Message
When the radioreceives an alert message, it willdisplay
the Effective Time and respond according to the alert
option set inprogram menu pageP4 ( refer to Alert
Option Table).The flashing LEDindicates
the alert level(Warning, Watch, or Advisory/ ).
The radio's realtime clock / date,
Statement
together with thealert
message will belogged and saved into the eventmemory.
When the radioreceives Non-Alert Messages (refer to
page 14), itwill not give audio and visualresponse but
save the messageto the event memory. Ifa new message
is received, theNon-Alert Message will be clearedfrom
the event memoryright away.
For the scrollingmessage, press and hold STOP key will
stop scrolling. Releasethe key will resume scrolling.
In such occasion,you have to
1. check ifthe weather channel is set correctly,
2. check ifthe county codes stored are rightfor your
local area,
3. check ifthe radio is in weak signalreception (statics),
4. contact yourlocal NOAA to see if theytransmit test
signals periodically.
The RE-CHECK SET UP message will disappearin about
5 minutes afterany key ispressed. After that, Youcan
review it inthe event memory(by pressing MEMORY
key). It willbe cleared fromthe memory as soon as the
radio decodes thenext coming message.

The Event No., Corresponding to the Alert Message
Table,is displayed on the LCD.
Some alert messages canbe set tono audio alert (SIREN
and VOICE) but displaythe messages onthe LCD in
order not toannoy you frequently.
These messages are groupedfrom Event No. 1to 48 in
the Alert Message Table. When the radio receives such a
message e.g. REQUIRED WEEKLYTEST, and youhave
already set itblocked, there will beno siren nor voice
alert but displaythe message onthe LCD.
The ALARM OUT socket will not be activated if the
blocked event isreceived.

ALARM OUT Socket
If the socketis set to DC OUT, then, whenthe radio
receives alerts, thesocket will output 6 Volts DC (the
voltage will beless when the radio is onlypowered with
back-up batteries) tothe external device.
(the output polarityis shown underneath the socket)
If the socketis set to SWITCH (as internal POWER
SWITCH), then, whenthe radio receives alerts, t
turning on
the power ofthe external device / accessory.
For this function,the socket's electrical maximum
rating is: DCvoltage: 12 Volt.

The ALARM OUT socket is provided on the back of the
radio. The socket'soutput is compatible with home
automation devices fromsuppliers such as Plug'n Power,
X-10 or others.Connect a 3.5mm (1/8inch) phone jack
with polarity asindicated underneath the socket.

4. Press key to select DC OUT or SWITCH option.
5. Press ENTER key to confirm.
To exit the programmenu, press PROG key.
The socket outputssiren and voice broadcast signal to
the external audiosystems such as Public Address
system, external speakersystem and etc.
When it isnecessary to use this socket, connectthe
3.5mm (1/8 inch)phone jack to the socket withpolarity
as indicated underneaththe socket; the speaker voice is
muted. The volumekeys or ,controls the audio
output level.

Siren Test
The SIREN TEST menu page P8 lets you topre-hear
and be familiarwith the actual siren / beeptone
generated by theradio when actual alerts / tests
are received.
In addition, theALARM OUT socket function can
be tested here.If desired, connect the external device
to the socketbefore proceeding to the steps below.
1. The siren/ beep tone will last forabout 15 seconds.
2. Press STOP key will stopthe siren /beep tone.
3. During thesiren, the ALARM OUT socket will
output control signalto trigger the external device.
4. When thesiren / beep tone stops, pressPROG key
to exit programmenu page.

7. Press or key to setall 6 digits to _ _ _ _ _ _ (blank)
and press ENTER key to delete.
To delete other county codes, repeat steps6 & 7.
