Jukebox Digital RK4
I.- Introduction
Project carried out in Visual Basic 6.0 (32 Bits) for Windows 98 SE, Me, 2K or XP, behaves
like a jukebox, to modernize obsolete equipment (vintage jukebox) that does not have spare
parts, but its structure can still be restored. The project is designed to operate any jukebox model,
making it a fully digital modern jukebox using mp3 music files.
The program works under the Windows 2K operating system, which must be installed on a
compact memory card for greater reliability, the music files must be on a pendrive, the RK4
program changes the name of the song files ascending from 101 and organize and classify using
the information of ID3 v1. Windows 2K has proven to be the most efficient operating system for
this project.
The mp3 music files must have in the ID3 v1 the following information: title, artist and album.
With the title and artist the labels of the songboard are elaborated and with the album the types of
music are created.
1.1 - Hardware Needs
1. - Computer desktop, with micro PIII or higher, with 128MB of memory.
2. - Standard keyboard (only the electronic card)
3. - Sound Card. (if the sound is not incorporated)
4. - Compact Flash Card of 4Gb or 8Gb of 30 megabits/sec
5. - Interface Display Model LY-252 (Four Digits).
6. - Jukebox chassis to modernize.
7. - Audio amplifier (original del jukebox or TDA7293)
8. - Protector of electronic equipment.
9. - Keyboard Distributor DT12N12C
10. - Command Keypad TR-242L or the equivalent
11. - Numeric Keypad
12. - Coin Detector Model CH-268T or the equivalent
13. - Power Cable 5V-12V (9 pins D-sub female and Molex 0.2 " 4 pins male)
14. - RS-232 serial cable (male-female D-sub 9-pin)
15. - LPT1 cable (male-male D-sub 25 pins)
16. - Pendrive de 16 Gb. (supports more than 4,000 song files)
17. - CDROM unit (only for the installation of the programs or maintenance)
18.- Monitor, mouser and keyboard (only for the installation of the programs or
maintenance).
The parts necessary to restore a jukebox are low cost and easy to acquire (most are sold
by Ebay) and others are easy to manufacture. In this manual you will find the necessary
information to manufacture or adapt the parts necessary for modernization.

1.2 - Software Needs
1. - Windows Operating Systems Win 2K or Win XP. (preferably Win 2K)
2. - Sound card driver.
3. - Files in compressed MP3 format of the songs, can be installed more than
9,000 song files.
4. - Installation program for RK4 (trial version) available on the Web. The final version
requires a password. The trial version operates completely with the limitation of sounding
the music files only for 60 seconds.
1.3 - Operating Modes
1 - Jukebox (standard mode)
It works like a Jukebox, for this you must use a pendrive with the archives of songs
classified by album. This mode can operate in two ways:
1.1.- Free Mode (free player)
1.2.- Commercial Mode (need bonus to player)
Free Mode: The selection is made directly (free) with the Numeric Keypad (of the Songboard)
and with the Command Keypad selects the album random. When the selection is made from the
Numeric Keypad this is called “Songboard Selection”.
Commercial Mode: The selection is only made from the numeric keypad if credit is available.
2 - Programming Mode
Function to create or modify the songboard and setting jukebox (one part).
To make the complete setting of the RK4 program a keyboard, an LCD screen and a
mouser are necessary.
3 - BoomBox (mp3 player)
It works as an mp3 file player, for this it is necessary to connect a pendrive with music
files. The music file paths must be different from those assigned as jukebox, otherwise it operates
in jukebox mode.
Music files can be saved in different folders (maximum 500 folders) and with the command
keypad you can forward or back music files or folders.
This mode automatically reads the logical units: D, E and F

1.4 - Random Play or Reset (Random / Reset)
By means of this function, all the songs present in the pendrive are played at random,
including those that are not shown in the Jukebox SongBoard, when selecting this function again,
the function is canceled.
In case there is a song list of the Songboard to play, the random function is not executed.
1.5 - Random by Album
The type of music selected on the pendrive sounds randomly, if it is selected a second
time, select the second album, it only works if there are no selected songs in the billboard mode
(Songboard selection). Music albums can be combined with each other.
The albums of songs are classified into two groups, ALB1-ALB15 operates with the first
touch of the key, ALBt1-ALBt15 operates with the second touch. The third touch cancels the
function.
1.6 - Tumble
Cancels the song that is playing and moves on to the next one. In case there is no song
sounding it shows the Coin Counter (only in commercial mode). In the Programming Mode, it is
used to exit the function. It must be programmed in the “Setting” window of RK4
1.7 - Volume Up (Volume +)
Turn up the volume of the Jukebox in 100 steps. In Programming Mode the position of the
file is increased.
It must be programmed in the configuration window of RK4.
1.8 - Volume Down (Volume -)
Lower the volume of the Jukebox in 100 steps. In Programming Mode, the position of the
file is decremented. It must be programmed in the configuration window of RK4
1.9 - Password
To enter this function it is done from the Programming Mode (Tumble + Volume Up) and
the number "9980" is entered.
The password must be three digits except "000" which is used to cancel the password.
By means of this function a Password is assigned to the Jukebox in such a way that the
Jukebox will sound only once the system is initialized and that Password is entered.

ASSIGN PASSWORD: Once inside the "Password Change" function enter a three-digit number
(except 999), once entered from now on it is necessary to enter this Password each time the
Jukebox is turned on (initialize).
CHANGE PASSWORD: Once inside the function, enter the previous Password and then enter
the new Password.
CANCEL PASSWORD ENTRY: Once in the function, enter the Password and then enter the
number "000", and thus the system will not need Password to work.
NOTE: If the password is activated, it is necessary to enter this password for the jukebox to work, the
display shows a closing bracket (]) scrolling through the display before entering the password, the bracket
changes direction ([) when entering the Password correctly.
1.10 - Other Functions (Jukebox Mode):
TUMBLE + VOLUME DOWN (Rating): Default function. Shows the 20 most played songs
in the Jukebox and makes them sound for only 10 seconds each, showing the position in the
Songboard on the display. With the key assigned TUMBLE, this function is exited. The song
becomes Hit once it has played 100 times in SongBoard mode.
0: Default function. In the event that a selection has been made, it shows the number of
songs to be played, if there is no selection, it shows the song count (number of songs played) and
Operation Hours.
-Show Song Counter: press number zero ("0"). First show 3 digits and then 4 digits, for a total of
seven digits. (only in free mode and playback off).
-Show Operating Hours: Press zero again (“0”). First show 3 digits and then 3 digits, for a total of
six digits. (only in free mode and playback off).
If pressed, it shows songs that are going to be played and then the file name of the song
that is being played. Only works in free mode.
BONUS: If activated (commercial mode), it is necessary to have credits to issue a
selection, the credit can be obtained through the command keypad or with the coin detector.
Coin Counter: With the Bonus at zero and without song selection, pressing Tumble
shows the coin counter (only in commercial mode).
Input by file name (
Code Entry)
:By selecting this function, the system directly accepts
the song code (File number or Music file name). This mode is used to select a song that is not in
the Songboard of the Jukebox. If the function is activated, the display shows a "U". Enable code:
9970.

1.11 - Programming Mode (Jukebox Mode)
Default function, to enter press the TUMBLE key and then press the VOLUME UP key on
the screen will show the number 101. Through this function, the billboard of songs that go to the
Songboard is generated or modified. A maximum of 400 (depending on the size of the
SongBoard) can be included, but you can have a larger repertoire on the pendrive, with this
function select only the ones you want. In addition, you can enter codes for different
configurations. See section: 1.12 - Setting Codes Table.
The template contains the respective files for each position in the Songboard, for example,
in position "101" (equivalent to the first position of the Songboard) the desired song file available
on the pendrive is assigned, for example the file "0240" . The names of the song files go from
101 onwards, when you enter files smaller than 999, you must first enter "0" to complete the four
digits.
When selecting this function in the display, the position is shown first, and after four
seconds and for a second the file of the song corresponding to this position, just enter the new file
and it will automatically increase to the next position.
To advance without modifying, use the VOLUME Up key and to back the VOLUME Down
key.
In case of making an error when entering the new file, just wait around 4 seconds and
return to the original position.
To exit this function, simply press the TUMBLE key. Each time you exit this function, the
new template is recorded on the hard disk (Compact Flash) of the system in the same folder
where the RK4 program is located. If there is no activity the function is canceled after 60 seconds.
Very Important Note:
Each time the RK4 program starts, it generates a file called "Available.txt", which contains all the
files, with its artist and title available on the Pendrive. The file "Labels.txt" is also generated, which
contains the name of the title, artist, the position and the file name of each song of the songboard and with
the Word program the labels of the Jukebox are made, they usually have a dimension of 1 "x 3" (2.5x7.5
cm). To make the labels, the file "Labels.txt" is first converted into a table of four columns (title, artist,
position, file name), then, with copy and paste, it is dragged to a new table with the measurements of
labels (4 columns of 18 pts, lengths: 2 "x1" x ½ "(5 cm, 2.5 cm and 1.25 cm) only title, artist and position
are transferred, see chapter I section 1.25 .- How to create the Songboard Labels. These files are
recorded in a folder called "Setting + Jukebox Name"on the hard disk (compact flash) and on the
pendrive).
Within the Programming Mode (press keys Tumble + Volume Up) you can perform the
following functions just by entering the four-digit number, the function is activated or deactivated,
all these functions are done with the Numeric Keypad and the Command Keypad of the
Jukebox:
