Using the Buttons on the Front Panel
If your remote control no longer works or you have lost it, you can
use the controls on the front panel of the television to:
◆Switch on the television when it is in Standby mode and
select channels ()
◆Access the main menu ()
◆Adjust the volume ()
Buttons on the front panel have the same function as corresponding
buttons on the remote control.

You must insert or replace the batteries in the remote control when
you :
◆Purchase the television.
◆Find that the remote control is no longer operating
correctly.
1Remove the cover of the remote control by pressing the symbol
()and pulling the cover in the direction of the arrow.
2Insert batteries, taking care to respect the polarities:
◆+on the battery with +on the remote control
◆ - on the battery with - on the remote control
3Replace the cover by pushing it in the direction of the arrow.
To view television channels correctly, a signal must be received by
the set from one of the following sources:
◆An outdoor aerial
◆A cable television network
◆A satellite network
Plug the aerial or cable network input cable to the 75Ωcoaxial socket
on the rear of the television.

The mains lead is attached to the rear of the television.
☛If you have purchased this television in the United
Kingdom, refer to page 35 for further instructions on
plug wiring.
1Plug the mains lead into an appropriate socket.
➢The main voltage is indicated on the rear of the TV set and
the frequency is 50 or 60Hz.
2Press the “ ” (ON/OFF) button on the front of the television.
Result:The Standby indicator lights up on the front panel.
3Press the POWER ()button on the remote control to switch the
television on.
Result:The programme that you were watching last is re-
selected automatically.
4To switch your television off, press the “ ” (ON/OFF) button again
on the front of the television.
Placing Your Television in Standby mode
Your television can be placed in Standby mode, in order to reduce:
◆Power consumption
◆Wear of the cathode ray tube
The Standby mode can be useful when you wish to interrupt
viewing temporarily (during a meal, for example).
The television is placed automatically in Standby mode when you
turn it on.
1Press the POWER ()button on the remote control.
Result: The screen is turned off and the Standby indicator on
the front of the television lights up.
2To switch the screen back on, simply press the POWER ()button
again on the remote control.
➣You can also switch on by pressing the Por button.
➣Do not leave your television in standby mode for long
periods of time (when you are away on holiday, for example).
In this case, you should switch it off completely.

Plug & Play Feature (depending on the model)
When the television is initially powered ON, three basic customer
settings proceed automatically and subsequently: setting the
language, channel and clock.
1If the television is in Standby mode, press the POWER ()button
on the remote control.
Result: The message Plug & Play is displayed. It flickers for a
little while and then the “Language” menu is automatically
displayed.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select required language. Press the
MENU () button to enter the language, and then the message
Ant. Input : Check is displayed.
➣If any language is not selected on the
Language menu, the
“Language” menu will be displayed about 30 seconds later.
3Make sure that the antenna is connected to the TV. And then press
the œor √button to store the channels (refer to “Storing the
Channels Automatically” on page 12).
Result: The horizontal bar is displayed, and then channels are
stored in an order which reflects their positions in the
frequency range.
4When searching and storing is complete, the Time menu is
displayed.
5Press the œor √button to move to the hour or minute. Set the
hour or minute by pressing the ▲or ▼button (refer to “Setting and
Displaying the Current Time” on page 25).
6When you have finished, press the MENU ()button.
Result: The message ENJOY YOUR WATCHING is displayed, and
then the channel which has been stored will be
activated.
7If you want to reset this feature...
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the Function , and then
press the œor √button.
3Select the Plug & Play by pressing the ▲or ▼button, and
then press the œor √button.
Result: The message
Plug & Play is displayed.

Choosing Your Language
When you start using your television for the first time, you must
select the language which will be used for displaying menus and
indications.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the Function .
3Press the œor √button to select the Language .
4Select a particular language by pressing the œor √button
repeatedly.
5When you have finished, press the EXIT ()button or press the
MENU ()button repeatedly to return to normal viewing.

Storing the Channels Automatically
Selecting a Channel Numbered Ten or Over
When using the numeric buttons to select a channel stored at
programme position ten or higher, follow the instructions below.
1Press the -/-- button.
Result: The “
-- ” symbol is displayed.
2Enter the two-digit channel number.
Example:To select channel 42, press 4, followed by 2.
You can scan the frequency ranges available on your television and
in your country and store all the channels found automatically.
The channels are stored in the order in which they appear in the
frequency bands. It is possible that the automatically allocated
numbers may not correspond to those by which you wish to
identify the channels. If this is the case, refer to “Sorting the Stored
Channels” on page 16.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the Channel .
3Press the œor √button to select the Auto Store .
4Press the œor √button again.
Result: The horizontal bar is displayed, and then channels are
stored in an order which reflects their positions in the
frequency range. Finally, the search will end automatically.
5When searching and storing is complete, the Sort menu is
displayed.
To... Then...
Sort the stored channels Go to Step 4of the “Sorting

When storing channels manually, you can choose:
◆Whether or not to store each of the channels found.
◆The number by which you wish to identify each stored
channel.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the Channel and press the œor
√button.
3Press the ▲or ▼button to select the Manual Store and press the
œor √button.
Result: The
Manual Store menu is displayed with the Color
System selected.
4Press the œor √button repeatedly until the color is of the best
quality.
Result: The
Color System is changed (depending on the
model).
AUTO ➞PAL ➞SECAM ➞ NTSC4.43
➣NTSC4.43 is a “trick” playback mode used by
special VCR’s to play PAL-recorded videos in
NTSC mode.
5Press the ▲or ▼button to select the Sound System and press the
œor √button repeatedly until the sound is of the best quality.
Result: The Sound System is changed (depending on the
model).
B/G ➞D/K ➞I ➞L/L’ (option)
➣If sound does not work regularly after storing
channels, select the sound system which best
corresponds.
6To start the search, select the Search and then press the œor √
button.
Result: The tuner scans the frequency range until the first
channel or the channel that you selected is received on
your screen.
7To assign a programme number to the channel, select the
Prog.No. . Press the œor √button until you find the correct
number.
8To store the channel and associated programme number, select
the
Store and press the œor √button.
Result:
OK is displayed.
9Repeat Steps 6to 8for each channel to be stored.
10 When you have finished manual storage, press the EXIT ()
button or press the MENU ()button repeatedly to return to
normal viewing

You can exclude the channels of your choice from the channel scan
operation. When you scan through the stored channels, those you
have chosen to skip are not displayed.
All channels that you do not specifically choose to skip are
displayed during scanning.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Channel and press the œor
√button.
3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Add/Erase and press the œ
or √button.
Result: The Add/Erase menu is displayed.
4Press the ▲ or ▼button to select the required channel.
5To add or erase the desired channel by pressing the œor √button.
6When you have finished adding and erasing channels, press the
EXIT ()button or press the MENU ()button repeatedly to
return to normal viewing

If the reception is clear, you do not have to fine-tune the channel,
as this is done automatically during the search and store operation.
If however the signal is weak or distorted, you may have to fine-
tune the channel manually.

You can exchange the numbers of two channels, in order to:
◆Modify the numeric order in which the channels have
been automatically stored.
◆Give easily remembered numbers to the channels that
you watch most often.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Channel and press the œor
√button.
3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Sort and press the œor √
button.
Result: The Sort menu is displayed with the From selected.
4Press the œor √button until the channel number that you wish to
change is displayed.
Result: The selected channel’s picture is displayed.
5Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the To .
6Press the œor √button until the new number by which you wish to
identify the channel is displayed.
Result: The selected channel is exchanged with the one
previously stored to the chosen number.
Example: If you select P 1 for the From and P 3 for the To :
◆Channel 1 becomes channel 3.
◆Channel 3 becomes channel 1.
7To... Press the...
Confirm the exchange ◆▲or ▼button to select the Store .

viewing requirements. The following picture effects are available in
the order given:

Changing the Picture Standard
Selecting the Picture Format (depending on the model)
You can select the picture format which best corresponds to your
viewing requirements. The following picture formats are available
in the order given:

◆Zoom (expansion of a 16:9 picture to full screen format)

1Press the MENU ()button.
Result: The
Picture menu is displayed.

Adjusting the Picture Settings
Your television has several settings which allow you to control picture
quality:
◆Color Tone, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness, Color, Tint
(NTSC only)
1Press the MENU () button.
Result: The
Picture menu is displayed.

3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Adjust , and then press the œ
or √button.
Result: When select the
Mode to Custom , the Adjust menu is
displayed.

5When you are satisfied with the settings, press the EXIT ()button
or press the MENU ()button repeatedly to return to normal
viewing.
➣The television has an “automatic degaussing” system that is
activated if magnetic interference is present. To degauss the
television screen, switch power off by pressing the “ ”
(ON/OFF) button on the front panel (refer to “Automatic
Degaussing to Remove Color Patches” on page 34).
➣If you make any changes to the Adjust settings, the picture
standard is automatically switched to Custom.

You can select the type of special sound effect to be used when
watching a given broadcast. The following sound effects are
available in the order given:
◆Custom, Standard, Music, Movie, Speech.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Sound and press the œor √
button.
Result: The
Mode menu is selected.
3Select to satisfy your preference by pressing the œor √button.
4When you have been finished, press the EXIT ()button or press
the MENU ()button repeatedly to return to normal viewing.
➣You can select the required sound effect by simply pressing
the “S.MODE” (Sound Mode) button on the remote
control.

Adjusting the Sound Settings (depending on the model)
The sound settings can be adjusted to suit your personal preferences.
1Press the MENU () button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Sound and press the œor √
button.
3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the Adjust and press the œor √
button.
Result: When select the
Mode to Custom , the Adjust menu is
displayed.
4Select the required option by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button and
adjust to satisfy your preference by pressing the œor √button.
5Press the œor √button.
Result: The horizontal bar is displayed.
6When you are satisfied with the settings, press the EXIT ()button
or press the MENU ()button repeatedly to return to normal
viewing.
➢You can display the sound adjust menu directly by pressing
the “S.MENU” (Sound menu) button on the remote control.
Adjusting the Volume
You can adjust the volume by pressing the or button on the
remote control.
