ASSEMBLY
INSTRUCTIONS
ATTACHINGTHEHANDLEANDHOOD
ToinstaUthehandles
and
hood
on
yourridinglawn
tractor,firstremovethetwobolts
at
theleftfront
sidethathold
the
bracebracket
in
place.Next,
remove
the
twoboltsthat
are
inserted
inthe
holes
inthehandlebar.Insert
the
handle
bar
through
the
rubberlinedhole
inthe
hood
and
thenover
the
steeringcolumn,
so
that
the
holes
inthe
column
matchthose
inthe
handlebar.Youwillnoticethat
there
are
threeholes
in
thehandle
bar
andonlytwo
inthesteeringcolumn.These
are
usedtoadjust
theheight
ofthe
handlebar.
Tousethe
handle
in
the
low
position,insert
the
bolts
inthe
uppertwo
holes
inthe
handlebar.
Tousethe
handle
inthe
highposition,insertthebolts
inthe
lowertwoholes
inthehandlebar.Theninstallthelockwashers
and
nuts
and
tighten.Nowmove
the
hoodforward
and
downuntil
the
holes
inthe
hoodmatchtheholes
in
thechassis
and
insert
the
bolt
inthe
hole
atthe
rightside.Next,raise
the
brakepedalbracket
and
insert
the
boltsthroughthebracket,
the
hoodand
thechassis.Nowinstall
the
lockwashersandnuts
andtighten.
INSTALLINGTHEMOWERONTHETRACTOR
Toattach
the
mower
tothe
tractor,install
the
mower
V
beltaround
the
mowerpulley
andthe
idler,thenraise
the
front
endof
thetractor
and
slide
the
mowerunder
the
tractor
so
that
the
dis-
chargechute
isatthe
rightfrontcorner.Raise
the
frontof
the
mowerandinstallthetwoboltsthathold
thefront
of
themower
tothe
tractor.Nowraise
therear
of
themowerandinstall
the
twoboltsthat
holdtherear
ofthe
mower
tothe
tractor.Pull
the
mowerdeckforward
asfarasit
will
go
andinstall
thebeltinthelowergrooveoftheenginepulley.Next,
engage
the
mowerclutchandpushthemowerdeck
totherear
to
take
up
tension
onthe
belt.When
the
belt
is
tight,tighten
the
boltsholding
the
mower
deck
tothe
tractor.
Now,
disengage
the
mower
clutchbeforeattempting
to
start
the
engine.Also
besure
tousethe
same
setof
boltholeswhenyou
mount
the
mower.
If
youwant
tosetthe
mower
to
cutlow,
usethe
fourlowestboltholes
in
tractor
chassis.Ifyouwanttocuthigh,usethefourhighest
boltholes.
TOREMOVEMOWERATTACHMENT
Toremove
the
mowerattachmentfrom
the
tractor,
makesure
the
engine
is
stopped,then
usea 1/2"
wrench
and
loosen
the
fourboltsthathold
the
mowerdeck
to
theside
ofthe
tractorchassis.
Now
go
tothe
rear
ofthe
tractor
and
remove
thetwo
boltsthatholdtherear
ofthe
mowerdeck
tothe
tractor.
Letthe
rearend
ofthe
moiverdownuntil
ittouches
the
ground.Then
go
around
to
thefront
ofthetractor
and
remove
thetwo
boltsthathold
thefront
of
themower
tothe
tractorand
letit
down
totheground.Reachunder
the
engine
and
slip
the
belt
offthe
enginepulley.Thenyou
can
raise
up
thefront
endof
thetractorandslide
the
mower
out
fromunder
it.If
youintend
touse
thetractorwhen
themower
is
removed,
we
wouldsuggestthatyou
re-install
the
boltsthat
are
used
to
holdthemower
tothetractor
in
theholes
in
thetractorchassis
and
tightenthem
to
avoidlosingthem.
PROPERSTARTINGANDOPERATIONPROCEDURE
STARTINGPROCEDURE
Thesafestmethod
for
startingyourridingrotary
lawnmower
isto
start
it
onlywhensitting
inthe
driver'sseat.
Geton
and
off
thetractorfrom
the
leftside
tobe
safe.Afteryou
areinthe
driver's
seat,check
tosee
that
the
sparkplugshorting
switch
isnot
touchingthesparkplug.Also,make
surethat
the
fuelshut
off
valveunder
the
fueltank
isturnedon,andthatthetractorclutchisinneutral.
If
the
engine
is
coldand
has
notbeen
runfor
some
time,
close
the
choke,open
the
throttleabouthalf
way,
and
pull
the
recoilstarterslowlyuntil
the
jawsgrip
the
crankshaft.Thenpullquickly
tothe
rear.Allow
the
cable
to
rewind
by
movingyour
righthandtowardtheenginewithoutreleasing
the
handle.
Inany
case,
donotletgoofthe
starter
handlewhenyouhavereached
theendofthe
pull
stroke.
Todoso
willallowthestarter
to
rewind
toorapidly
and
maycause
itto
jam.
Ifthe
engine
failedtostart,pull
the
starteragain.Usually
one
ortwopullswiththechokeclosedisenough
to
start
theengine.After
the
enginestarts
to
run,open
the
chokeandtheenginewill
run
smoothly.
To
start
themowerblade,move
the
clutchlever
forthe
mowerSLOWLY
tothe
rearuntil
the
mowerblade
picks
up
speed.Continue
to
move
the
clutchlever
to
the
rearuntil
it
stopsand
it
willstayengaged.
Tostop
the
mowerblade,move
the
clutchlever
forward
asfarasit
willgo.Since
the
blade
has
beenturning
ata
highrate
of
speed,
it
willrequire
sometime
foritto
stoprotating.
Tostartyourlawntractormovingforward,first
starttheengine,thenmove
the
clutchleverslowly
forward.
The
fartherforwardthat
you
move
the
lever,
the
faster
you
will
go.
When
you
have
reachedthespeedthatyoudesire,leave
the
clutch
leveralone.
It
willstay
in
thatposition.
Torun
slowerinforward,pull
the
clutchleverbacktoward

neutral.Whentheclutchleverisstraightupand
down,theclutchisinneutralandthetractorwill
notmove.Tomakethetractorgointoreverse,
pulltheclutchlevertowardyouandholditthereas
longasyouwanttogobackward.Whenyourelease
it,itwillreturntoneutral.Thisisa frictiondrive
reverseandtheclutchlevermustbefirmlyheldin
reversetopreventthetractorfromreturningto
neutral.
ENGINESPEEDCONTROL
Thespeedoftheengineiscontrolledthrougha
leverlocatedontheclutchleverbracketjustin
frontoftheseat.Pullthelevertowardtherearto
increasethespeedoftheengine.Whenstartingthe
engine,openthethrottleabouthalfway.Itissome-
timesdifficulttostarttheenginewhenthethrottle
leverisinthe"idle"orforwardposition.
REPLACINGWORNBELTS
Toreplacewornbeltsonthetractor,firstremove
themower,thenstandthetractoronitsfrontend
andremovethetwoboltsthatholdthebeltguides
tothechassis.Thesetwoboltsarelocatedoneon
eachsideofthechassisjusttotherearofthehood.
Movetheclutchleverforwardasfarasitwillgo
andtakebothsidesofthelongbeltinyourhandand
squeezethemtogethertogetmoreslackinthebelt.
Nowslipthebeltoffthelargepulleyattherearof
thetractor,andthenoffthevariablespeedpulley.
Nextmovetheclutchlevertothereverseposition
andslipoffthesmallerbelt.
Toputonnewbelts,firstputonthesmallerbelt,
thenmovetheclutchlevertoneutraltotakethe
slackoutofthesmallbelt.Nowre-installthebelt
guardsandinstallthelongbeltoverthevariable
speedpulley.Takebothstrandsofthebeltinyour
handandpulltowardtherearofthetractoruntil
thebeltisseatedasdeepinthevariablespeedpul-
leyasitwillgo.Installthebeltinthegrooveof
largepulleyandlowerthetractortothegroundand
itisreadytorun.
CLUTCH
Theclutchonyourtractorisoperatedfroma lever
neartheright-handhandlebar.Onelevercontrols
boththespeedandthedirectionoftravel.Whenthe
clutchleverisstraightupanddown,theclutchis
inneutralandeventhoughtheengineisrunning,the
tractorwillnotmove.Theclutchlevershould
alwaysbeintheneutralpositionwhenstartingor
stoppingtheengine.Whentheengineisrunning,
movingtheclutchleverforwardwillcausethe
tractortomoveforward.Thefartheryoumove
theleverforward,thefasterthetractorwillmove.
Whenthedesiredspeedhasbeenreached,leave
theleveraloneanditwillstayinthatposition.To
stoptheforwardmotionofthetractor,pullthe
clutchleverbackwarduntilitisstraightupand
down.Tomakethetractormovebackward,pull
theclutchlevertotherearandholditthereas
longasyouwanttogobackward.Whenyourelease
it,itwillreturntoneutral.
ADJUSTINGTHECUTTINGHEIGHT
Therotarymowerunitontheridinglawntractor
canbeadjustedtocutgrassat4 differentheights.
Wheninstalledatthefactory,themowerissetto
cuttwoinchesabovea levelhardsurfaceorone
andonehalfincheswheninthegrass.
Tochangethecuttingheightofthemower,the
followingprocedureshouldbeadopted:
Step1 - Tochangecuttingheightfrom2"to2-1/2"
removebladenut,bladewashers,blade,
and1/2"spacer.Nowinstallonblade
spindleonebladewasher,blade,second
bladewasher,1/2"spacerandbladenut.
Tightennutsecurely.
Step2 - Toadjustthemowerfrom2"to3",loosen
thefourboltsthatholdthemowertothe
tractorchassisandslidethemowerfor-
wardasfarasitwillgo.Nowremovethe
twoboltsattherearofthemower(oneon
eachside)andraisetherearofthemower.
Installtheboltsintheuppersetofholes.
Thenmovethemowerdrivebeltintothe
uppergrooveontheenginepulley.Now
removethetwoboltsatthefrontofthe
mowerandraiseitup.Re-installthese
twoboltsinthehigherholestomakethe
mowerdecklevel.Engagethemower
clutchandpushthemowerdeckbackward
totightenthebelt.Nowtightenallfour
boltstoholdthemowerinposition.
Disengagetheclutchbeforetryingtostart
theengine.
Step3 - Toadjustthemowerfrom3"to3-1/2",
followsameprocedureasinStep1 after
Step2 hasbeenaccomplished.
THECLUTCHFORTHEMOWER
Themowerunitisequippedwithanidlertypeclutch
thatisusedtostartorstopthemowerindepenaently
oftheengine.Thisclutchisoperatedbya leveron
therightsideofthetractor,justabovethemower
deck.Movingthisclutchlevertowardtherearof
thetractorstartsthemower.Movingitforward
stopsthemower.Therearetwoimportantthings
torememberwhenusingyourlawntractorasa
mower:
First:DONOTTRYTOSTARTTHEENGINE
WITHTHEMOWERCLUTCHENGAGED.
Second:KEEPHANDSANDFEETFROMUNDER
THEMOWERDECKASLONGASTHEENGINEIS
RUNNING.
TOADJUSTMOWERBELT
Examinecloselythesideplatesofthemowerunit
anditcanbeseenthatthereareelongatedslots
throughwhichthefourmountingboltsareinserted
forattachingthemowerunittotractorchassis.
Theseelongatedslotsareprovidedsothatnormal

beltwearorstretchcanbetakenup.Simplyloosen
allfourmountingboltsholdingmowerunittotractor
chassis.Nowengagemowerclutch.Nextpush
mowerunittorearoftractor.Thiswillauto-
maticallycompensateforbeltstretch.Nextdis-
engagemowerclutchandtightenmountingbolts
securely.Themowerbeltisa standard"A"section
33"
beltavailableatmosthardwarestores.
MOWERBLADE- 24"
Themowerbladeismadeofspecialmowerblade
steelandshouldbekeptassharpaspossibleatall
times.
Whensharpeningtheblade,besuretore-
movethesameamountofstockfromeachcutting
edgesoastokeepbladeinbalance.
Themowerbladeshouldbeinstalledwiththebeveled
cuttingedgeupward.
MOWERSPINDLE
Themowerspindleismountedonsealedballbear-
ingsthatrequirenofurtherlubrication.
MULCHERSCREEN
Provisionhasbeenmadetoattacha screenover
theexhaustopeningofthemower.Byinstalling
thisscreenovertheexhaustopening,youcanstart
yourmowerandrideoveryourlawnanddisposeof
thefallendriedleaveswithouteffort.Themower
bladeisdesignedtoliftthefallenleavesupintothe
mower.Thebladewillthengrindthemupuntilthe
piecesaresmallenoughtopassthroughthescreen
andreturntoyourlawnasa fineorganicmulch.
ADJUSTINGTHESEAT
Theseatisinstalledatthefactoryintheforward
position.However,ifmorelegroomisdesired
thancanbeobtainedbyraisingthehandles,theseat
canbemovedtotherear.Todothis,removethe
twoboltsthatholdtheseatspringtothechassis
andmovethemtothereartwoholesinthechassis
andre-tighten.
TIPSONUSINGYOURMOWER
Usingyourridinglawntractorasa mowerisnot
muchdifferentfromusinganyotherpowermower.
Studytheareatobecuttodeterminethebest
methodtouse.Rememberthattogetthejobdone
quickly,makethelongeststraightcutspossible.
Donotattempttotrimtooclosely,savethatforthe
clean-up.Keepthemowercuttingforwardasmuch
aspossible,foralthoughitwillcutinreversejust
aswellasforward,youlosetimebychangingdi-
rection.Ifyouhavea largeareatomow,itsome-
timespaystodivideitintotwosmallerareas,in
ordertokeepthemowercuttingandnotjustriding
alongidle.
OTHERATTACHMENTS
Inadditiontotherotarymower,yourtractorcan
beusedwitha lawnroller,aerator,seeder,and
dumpcart,allofwhichareattachedtothedrawbar
attherearofthetractor.Thesnowplowisthe
onlyattachmentthatisoperatedfromthefrontof
thetractor.Itisattachedtothefrontaxlewith
twoboltsandisraisedorloweredwithyourright
foot.Itisnotnecessarytoremovethemowerfrom
thetractorwhenusingtheotherattachments,but
besurethatthemowerbladeclutchisdisengaged.
CLUTCHCONTROLLEVERADJUSTMENT
Afteryourridinglawntractorhasbeeninuse,it
maybenecessarytoincreasethecompressionon
thefrictionpadwhichislocatedbetweentheclutch
bracketandtheclutchlever.
Todothis,simplyobtaintwowrenches,oneforthe
hexheadboltandoneforthehexheadnut,andtight-
enthenutabout1/4ofa turn.
Next,startthelawntractorandtrytheclutchlever
todeterminewhetherornotitwillstayinposition.
Ifithasa tendencytoreturntoneutral,repeatthe
aboveprocedureuntilsufficientadditionalpressure
hasbeenappliedtothespecialspringwasher,
locatedunderthehexheadnut,tokeeptheclutch
leverinitsproperposition.
