1 VUE
®
TZ20-R
Made in the USA, the radiometric VUE TZ20-R thermal-zoom drone payload enables DJI V2 Matrice 200 series
and 300 pilots to see and measure thermal details not possible with other leading sUAS aircraft and payloads.
The TZ20-R features two FLIR Boson® thermal infrared (IR) cameras that put four times more pixels on target at
every zoom level versus all competition and offers an unmatched 20× zoom capability. Utility, roofing, solar farm,
and other industrial inspectors can zoom into objects of interest, identify them with unmatched clarity, and take
and record radiometric temperature measurements, all from a safe standoff distance. Emergency response pilots
in search and rescue, law enforcement, firefighting, and public safety can search for and observe in silence while
using the thermal zoom to reduce false positives and make critical decisions faster with the affordable VUE TZ20-
R. The combination of performance-leading thermal zoom and radiometry enables more efficient missions with
faster search, silent surveillance, and safer stand-off inspections.

2 INSTALLATION AND QUICK START GUIDE
Hold securely when attaching or detaching the Vue TZ20-R.
1. Remove the protective cap from Skyport connector and insert gimbal into gimbal mount on airframe.
2. Rotate the Skyport connector to the unlocked position and completely insert into the airframe gimbal mount.
3. Rotate the Skyport connector to the locked position to secure it.
4. Confirm that the Vue TZ20-R is mounted securely.
5. If flying with a second payload, confirm both payloads are aimed forward upon start-up and initialization to
prevent payloads from contacting each other during initialization process.
6. Power on the airframe and remote controller.
7. Open the DJI Pilot Application.
8. When flying dual payloads, place the controller in Gimbal Control Mode so the two payloads turn together and
do not bump into each other during flight.

3 DJI PILOT APP INSTALLATION
The Matrice aircraft often comes with a controller with the DJI Pilot App installed. If an additional Android-based
device is required, please install the DJI Pilot app.
3.1 Compatible Devices

4 DJI PILOT APP OPERATION
The DJI Pilot app is required to operate the Vue TZ20-R. The user controls for the Vue TZ20-R appear on the
right edge in the DJI Pilot app. In the main screen, users have the option to toggle between recording modes
through the “Menu” and adjust operational parameters including Flat Field Correction (FFC), AGC, color palette,
zoom, radiometric spot meter and other payload settings. The Vue TZ20-R does not support viewing recorded
imagery on the SD from the DJI Pilot app. Note that conducting a FFC will momentarily freeze the live image.

4.1 Menu
In the menu selection, users can toggle the recording mode between photo
and video, start and stop recording, and select the photo mode. Single
Shot, Burst Mode, and Interval options are available. The Interval capture
rate can be set between 1 to 30 seconds.

4.2 FFC
A FFC (flat field correction) is an offset calibration that is triggered at powerup, after a set
change in temperature, and periodically throughout the camera operation. The FFC
adjusts internal settings that compensate for environmental temperature changes, camera
temperature changes, and other conditions that impact camera operation. This maintains
image quality by removing noise and other artefacts that may occur during use in dynamic
operational conditions. The Vue TZ20-R is always in auto FFC mode, but a manual
trigger can be initiated by pressing the FCC icon. Note that when a FFC is executed, the
live image will be paused momentarily.
4.3 AGC Lock/Unlock
The AGC Lock/Unlock allows the image to hold a constant temperature-to-color pallet in a
dynamic moving scene. This allows the user to identify objects in the camera field of view
with specific infrared radiation and facilitates locating items in specific scenes.
4.4 Color Palettes
Multiple color palettes are available on the FLIR Vue TZ20-R. The User’s desired color
palette is saved with JPG and MOV files, but not with TIFF files. The palette icon
indicates the current color pallet. The user may select the color palette by pressing the
icon. Adjusting the palette can aid in interpreting the thermal images. More information

4.5 Zoom
The FLIR Vue TZ20-R is capable of up to 20x thermal zoom. The user can maintain a wide
FOV to cover a large area quickly and then zoom in on targets of interest when desired.
Pressing the zoom icon allows the user to select 1x, 5x, 10x, and 20x zoom, is calculated
based on the wide horizontal field of view (HFOV), or WFOV Boson. Zoom level 1x utilizes a
wide, 95° HFOV, 640x512 resolution Boson. This is referred to as the NFOV Boson. Zoom
levels 5x, 10x, and 20x utilize a narrow, 18° HFOV, 640x512 resolution Boson. Zooming
from 1x to 5x is an optical zoom, unique to the TZ20-R and places over 327,000 pixels on
target at both levels. Zooming 5x, 10x, and 20x is a digital zoom. All four zoom levels place
four times more pixels on target versus pure digital zoom payloads using the same starting
HFOV. TIFF images are saved without the zoom applied. JPEG and MOV are saved with
zoom and colorized. The Vue TZ20-R should be at least 50 feet from the target when using
the 20X zoom setting to maximize focus. At the 5X zoom setting, the minimum distance to
target is 5 feet.

4.6 Radiometry
The TZ20-R is equipped with a variety of radiometric features that can be enabled by the
pilot. These include a spot meter measurement, region of interest (ROI) measurement
boxes that display the hottest, coolest, and average temperature of all pixels within the ROI,
and hot or cold isotherms. Press the radiometry icon to select radiometric settings. It is
recommended that new users operate the TZ20-R with its factory default settings for
radiometry. The Vue TZ20-R has a humidity and temperature sensor that is used to
calculate the effect of atmospheric absorption for radiometry. The Vue TZ20-R includes
settings to adjust radiometric calculations based on scene and atmospheric
conditions. These parameters can also be adjusted for radiometric JPEG files in FLIR

4.6.1 Spot Meter
The Spot Meter is engaged using the icon on the main view screen. When turned on, the spot meter icon and
measured temperature will appear in the middle of the screen.

4.6.2 Regions of Interest (ROI)
There are two ROI options: Frame and Center. Frame defines the ROI as the full view as displayed on the user
interface. Center creates and displays a ROI smaller than full user interface. The hottest, coldest, and average
temperature within the ROI is displayed for both Frame and Center. The hottest measured temperature within the
ROI is indicated with the red upward pointing triangle. The coldest temperature within the ROI is indicated with
the blue downward pointing triangle.
The ROI feature is accessed via the payload icon on the main view screen. Scroll through the menu to select
Measurement ROI. Tap the option box to the right to change from the default “None” setting to “Frame” or
“Center.” Press the “X” at the upper right corner of the menu to return to the main screen. The selected ROI will
appear on the user interface indicating and locating the hottest, coldest, and average temperature.
