1 Introduction and Designated se
NanoCam3D Mk.1 s a stereoscop c FPV camera for rad o-controlled veh cles, n part cular for
m cro quad-copters. The camera s del vered n a pre-cal brated and ready-to-use state. The
factory sett ngs of the camera are:
V deo norm: PAL,
3D-Mode: Squeezed S de-by-S de 3D,
Image swap: No swap,
Auto exposure algor thm: Average Br ghtness Track ng.
These sett ngs prov de compat b l ty w th most of the currently ava lable 3D-capable FPV goggles
l ke FatShark Dom nator HD V1-V3 and Dom nator V3; Ze ss C nem zer, C nem zer Plus and
C nem zer OLED as well as AOMWAY Commander V1. Users of FatShark Att tude V3 or Headplay
PCS v deo goggles (w th F eld-Sequent al 3D support) should refer to chapter 2.3 for v deo setup.
The follow ng p cture shows all camera connectors and data ports.

The JTAG port s used for dev ce programm ng and typ cally not of nterest for operat onal use. The
ser al port w th aux l ary 3.3V supply connects the camera to future dev ces, e.g. for generat on of a
stereoscop c on-screen d splay (3D-OSD).

1.2 Quick Start Guide
For a qu ck setup w th factory defaults follow the subsequent nstruct ons.

Connect the camera's v deo output w th su table Molex P coBlade™ connectors to
your v deo transm tter. Not ce the CVBS/GND p n ass gnment. If poss ble, use a
ded cated ground w re between camera and v deo transm tter.

Connect the camera’s power supply port to a DC power supply (min. +3V, max.
+16V) us ng a su table Molex P coBlade™ connector. Not ce the VCC/GND p n
ass gnment. Both GND p ns on camera’s v deo output and camera’s power supply
are d rectly connected and hence of the same electr c potent al.

Power-up the camera and check whether the green status LED s cont nuously on.
Check the rece ved v deo s gnal w th your FPV goggle or a test mon tor. FPV
goggles may need to be put nto 3D mode manually. See the manual of your FPV
goggle f unsure how to put the goggle nto 3D-mode.

2 Optional Camera Setup
The camera has only two control elements on the front s de: push buttons 1 and 2. These push
buttons are used for camera set-up and adjustment purposes. The camera’s status LED nd cates
the current state of operat on.
The camera features a number of setup and adjustment modes to mprove user exper ence. All
adjustments are executed us ng the two push buttons on the front s de of the camera. The result of
these adjustments s appl ed and saved for future use nto a nonvolat le memory sect on of the
camera's v deo process ng un t.

2.2 Video Norm Setup
The camera’s v deo norm can be selected between PAL (factory default) or NTSC. It can be
changed by execut ng the follow ng procedure. The v deo norm setup procedure can be canceled
at any t me by power-cycl ng the camera.
Power off camera.
Press push button 1 and keep t pressed.
Power on camera and release push button 1. The camera’s status LED starts to flash.
Flash ng cycle nd cates current v deo norm sett ng (PAL = repeated s ngle flash, NTSC =
repeated double flash).
Press and release push button 2 to toggle between PAL and NTSC. LED flash cycle
changes accord ngly.
Press and release push button 1 to save sett ng and restart camera w th new sett ng.
2.3 3D Video Mode Setup
The camera’s 3D-mode can be selected between squeezed s de-by-s de 3D (factory default) and
f eld-sequent al 3D, both w th normal (factory default) and swapped mages. The 3D-mode can be
changed by execut ng the follow ng procedure, wh ch can be canceled at any t me by power-
cycl ng the camera.
Power off camera.
Press push button 2 and keep t pressed.

Power on camera and release push button 2. The camera’s status LED starts to flash.
Flash ng cycle nd cates current 3D-mode and mage swap sett ng (SBS no swap =
repeated s ngle flash, SBS swapped = repeated double flash, FS no swap = repeated tr ple
flash, FS swapped = repeated quadruple flash).
Press and release push button 1 to toggle between these 4 poss ble modes. LED flash
cycle changes accord ngly.
Press and release push button 2 to save sett ng and restart camera w th new sett ng.
2.4 Reset to Factory Default Settings
It s poss ble to reset the camera to default sett ngs by execut ng the follow ng procedure. Not ce
that also the camera’s adjustment sett ngs (see follow ng chapters) w ll be erased.
Power off camera.
Press both push buttons 1 and 2 and keep them pressed.
Power on camera, LED flashes fast.
Release both push buttons to execute camera reset and to restart camera w th factory
defaults.
2.5 Sensor Vertical Adjustment
Manufactur ng tolerances somet mes lead to vert cally m sal gned left and r ght mages. Th s effect
s most prom nent n s de-by-s de 3D mode (F gure 3).
The camera s able to compensate such m sal gnment w thout loss of resolut on or black bar
padd ng as the ut l zed mage sensors prov de extra v deo p xels for that purpose. Follow the
procedure outl ned below for vert cal sensor adjustment. The procedure can be canceled at any
t me by power-cycl ng the camera.
Power on camera and d splay v deo s gnal on a su table test mon tor or v deo goggle. The
adjustment should be made n s de-by-s de 3D mode.
Press push button 1 and keep t pressed for ca. 1 sec unt l the status LED flashes fast, then
release push button 1.

cycle. There are two d fferent adjustment modes (Sensor Vert cal Adjustment Mode =
repeated s ngle flash, S de-by-S de Offset Adjustment Mode = repeated double flash), here
the requ red Sensor Vert cal Adjustment Mode s automat cally preselected.
Act vate Sensor Vert cal Adjustment Mode by press ng push button 1 aga n and keep t
pressed for ca. 1 sec unt l the status LED flashes fast. Then release push button 1.
Hor zontal l nes are d splayed over the SBS-v deo s gnal to ass st the follow ng v deo mage
al gnment.
Now press and release one of the two push buttons at a t me to vert cally al gn left and r ght
v deo mage. Each push button s respons ble for one of the two poss ble sh ft d rect ons
(left down/r ght up; left up/r ght down). Input s accepted upon release of the respect ve
push button. The poss ble range for vert cal mage al gnment s +/- 36 v deo l nes.
When done press push button 1 aga n and keep t pressed for ca. 1 sec unt l the status
LED nd cates a sol d s gnal, then release push button 1. Th s w ll term nate the Sensor
Vert cal Adjustment Mode. The vert cal adjustment sett ngs w ll be saved and the camera
restarts w th the new sett ngs.
2.6 Side-by-Side Offset Adjustment
Th s adjustment mode s meant as a means to compensate opt cal mperfect ons of FPV v deo
goggles that do not separate the left and r ght p cture of squeezed s de-by-s de nput v deo
correctly n the m ddle of the v deo frame. A typ cal symptom s the v s b l ty of port ons of the r ght
hand s de mage n the left d splay of the goggle or v ce versa (F gure 4).
Th s effect can be m t gated w th the camera by sl ghtly sh ft ng the whole s de-by-s de raw v deo
arrangement to the left or to the r ght, w thout comprom s ng the raw s de-by-s de v deo. Follow the
procedure outl ned below for s de-by-s de offset adjustment. The procedure can be canceled at any
t me by power-cycl ng the camera.
Power on camera and d splay v deo s gnal on a su table test mon tor or v deo goggle. Th s
adjustment s only appl cable for s de-by-s de 3D mode.

The camera now s n onl ne cal brat on mode, wh ch s nd cated by a slow LED flash ng
cycle. Currently there are two d fferent adjustment modes (Sensor Vert cal Adjustment

Select S de-by-S de Offset Adjustment Mode by press ng and releas ng e ther push button 1
or push button 2. The selected adjustment mode s nd cated by the correspond ng flash ng
sequence of the LED. For S de-by-S de Offset Adjustment Mode the LED must show a
repeated double-flash cycle.
Act vate S de-by-S de Offset Adjustment Mode by press ng push button 1 aga n and keep t
pressed for ca. 1 sec unt l the status LED flashes fast. Then release push button 1.
Now press and release one of the two push buttons at a t me to hor zontally sh ft the whole
s de-by-s de v deo mage. Each push button s respons ble for one of the two poss ble sh ft
d rect ons (to the left, to the r ght). Input s accepted upon release of the respect ve push
button. The poss ble sh ft range for mage al gnment s +/- 4 sh ft steps.
When done press push button 1 aga n and keep t pressed for ca. 1 sec unt l the status
LED nd cates a sol d s gnal, then release push button 1. Th s w ll term nate the S de-by-
S de Offset Adjustment Mode. The s de-by-s de offset adjustment sett ngs w ll be saved and
the camera restarts w th the new sett ngs.
2.7 Auto Exposure Adjustments
The auto exposure (AE) algor thms runn ng on both mage sensors perform automat c adjustments
of the mage br ghtness by controll ng the exposure t me and analog ga ns of the sensor core, as
well as the d g tal ga ns appl ed to the mage. Depend ng on the env ronment n wh ch the camera
s operated one of the four follow ng AE algor thms m ght mprove mage qual ty:
Average brightness tracking: Factory default, calculates br ghtness over the full mage
w th automat cally set target br ghtness values.
Weighted Average Brightness: Calculates br ghtness correspond ng to we ght values of
25 sub-w ndows def ned over the full mage. Programmed we ght values force the algor thm
to focus on the lower half of the full mage and to gnore the upper half of the full mage.
Adaptive Weighted AE for highlights: The scene w ll be exposed based on the
br ghtness of each sub-w ndow, and w ll adapt to correctly expose the h ghl ghts (br ghter
w ndows). Th s w ll correctly expose the foreground of an mage when the background s
dark.
Adaptive Weighted AE for lowlights: The scene w ll be exposed based on the br ghtness
of each w ndow, and w ll adapt to correctly expose the lowl ghts. Th s w ll correctly expose
the foreground of an mage when the background s br ghter.
The des red AE algor thm can be chosen dur ng camera operat on w th the follow ng procedure.
The procedure can be canceled at any t me by power-cycl ng the camera.

3 Warranty
Th s product s covered by the German statutory warranty. The warranty s fulf lled at the seller's
opt on by repa r, replacement or w thdrawal of the purchase contract.
The warranty becomes vo d when the malfunct on was or s caused by th rd party, or by mproper
nstallat on, or comm ss on ng or mod f cat on, by ncorrect or negl gent handl ng, or mproper
transport, or excess ve stress, by unsu table operat ng resources, by nadequate v deo
transm ss on systems, by mproper use or operat on of the product.
Please note that the techn cal real zat on of the w reless v deo transm ss on from the camera to the
end user's v deo rece ver, or v deo goggle, or head-mounted d splay has a s gn f cant mpact on the
v deo qual ty. Inappropr ate v deo qual ty caused by the use of unsu table v deo transm ss on
systems s therefore not an error or malfunct on of the product.
4 Disposal and Environmental Protection
Electr cal and Electron c Equ pment (EEE) can be recycled when no longer needed and
must not be d sposed together w th usual household waste. Therefore we k ndly ask you
to support us w th your act ve contr but on to the conservat on of resources and the
protect on of the env ronment by d spos ng th s dev ce at the off c al EEE collect on po nts.
