FIVE YEARLIMITED GEARBOX WARRANTY
Taylor Pittsburgh Mfg., warrants tothe original purchaser of anynewTaylor Pittsburgh product
equipped with a Gearbox, a Gearboxonly- limited Five (5)yearwarranty, for non-commercial,non
-state, non-municipalities, and non-rental use, and for 90 days for commercial,non-rental use or a
30-daywarrantyis offered forrental use.
Under no circumstances will this warrantyapplyinthe event that the product, in good faith opinion
of TaylorPittsburgh, has been subjected to improper operation, improper maintenance, misuse,
fire or an accident. This warrantydoes not applyin the eventthat the product has been materially
modified or repairedby someone not authorized prior to repair by Taylor Pittsburgh. This warranty
does not cover normal wear and tear, or normal maintenanceitems. This warrantyalso does not
cover repairs made with parts other thanthose obtainable through Taylor Pittsburgh.
This warrantyis extended solelyto the original purchaser of the product. Should the original
purchaser sellor otherwise transferthis product to a third party, this Warrantydoes not transfer to
the third-party purchaser in anyway. There are no third-party beneficiaries of this Warranty.
Taylor Pittsburgh’s obligation under this Warrantyare limited to, at Taylor Pittsburgh’s option, the
repair orreplacement of the product if Taylor Pittsburgh in its sole discretion deems it to be
defective or innoncompliancewith this Warranty. The productmust be returned to Taylor
Pittsburgh with proof of purchase within thirty(30) days after such defect or noncompliance is
discovered or should have been discovered, routed thru thedealer and distributor from whom the
purchasewasmade,transportation charges prepaid.
THERE ARE NO OTHER REMEDIES UNDER THIS WARRANTY. THE REMEDYOF REPAIR
OR REPLACEMENTIS THE SOLEAND EXCLUSIVE REMEDYUNDER THJIS WARRANTY.
THERE ARE NOWARRANTIES, WHICH EXTEND BEYOND THE DESCRIPTION ON THE
FACE OFTHIS WARRANTY. TAYLOR PITTSBURGH MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY,
EXPRESS ORIMPLIED, ANDTAYLOR PITTSBURGH SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMS ANY
IMPLIEDWARRANTYOR MERCHANTABILITYAND/OR ANYIMPLIED WARRANTYOF
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Taylor Pittsburgh shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential losses, damages or
expenses, arising directlyor indirectlyfrom the product,whether such claim is based upon breach
of contract, breach ofwarranty, negligence, strict liabilityin tortor anyother legal theory.Without
limiting the generality of foregoing,TaylorPittsburgh specificallydisclaims any damages relating
to lost profits, business revenues or goodwill, loss of crops, loss of delayin harvesting; any
expense or loss incurred for labor, supplies, substitute machineryor rental; or anyother type of

Anyand ALLrepairs must be pre-approved byTaylor Pittsburgh prior to anyrepairs being made

Five (5) Year LimitedGearboxWarrantyis a variable warranty based on purchasedate, within
one year fromoriginal purchase date, to the original owned. Warrantywould include parts and
labor based on all restrictionsand limits stated above. Taylor Pittsburgh reserves the right to limit
labor in hoursand hourlycharges. All repairs must be pre-approved prior to work being done.
Years 2 thru 5 are parts onlywarranty. NOLABOR WILL BE PAID. Taylor Pittsburgh reserves the
right to ask and inspect all parts prior to a warranty decision being made. Incidental expenses
such as lubricants and transportation to and from the dealer are not cover bywarranty.

l Safetyof the operator andbystandards is one ofthemainconcernsin designing and
developing amower.However,everyyear accidentsoccurwhichcouldhavebeen
avoided byafewsecondsofthoughtandamorecarefulapproachtohandling
equipment. You,theoperator,canavoid manyaccidents byobserving thefollowing
precautions and insistthoseworkingwithyou, orforyou, followthem.
l Inorder toprovide abetterview,certain photographsorillustrationsinthismanual
mayshowanassemblywithasafetyshieldremoved.However,equipmentshould
never be operatedin thiscondition.Keep allshieldsinplace.Ifshieldremoval
becomes necessaryfor repairs, replacetheshieldpriortouse.
l Replaceanysafetysignthatisnotreadableorismissing.Location ofsuchsafety
signs isindicatedinthismanual.
l Never usealcoholicbeveragesor drugsthatcan hinderalertnessor coordination
while operatingthisequipment. Consultyour doctor aboutoperatingthismachine

Placerotarymower onaflat,level surface. (SeeFigureA)
STEP2
Removethe wired on PTOshaft.Removethe(2) boltsthatareontheliftarm
lugs,andtheboltholding thepivotshield on. (SeearrowsFigureC) Placethe
(3)bolts,thepivotshield and the PTOshafttothe side (See FigureB) you will
replacetheseitems asyou puttheunit together forservice.
STEP3
Rotatearmsuptoastanding position(See FigureD) and replacethe (2) two
boltsonceyou getarmstofullforward positionwiththeswivel links belowthe
bolts (See FigureEon page10).
STEP4
Then raisebracearmsupandthroughwhere theybolttopivotbar (SeeFigure
F&Gonpage10).
STEP5
Installthepivotshield withbolt,through shield and through liftarms andout
other sideofshield. (See holeFigGon page10). NOTE: Besure long sideof
shieldistowardstractor. Onceyou gettheboltinplaceitshouldlooklike
(FigureHon Page10).
STEP6
Be sure and tightenall nutsand bolts. (FigureI on page10iscomplete unit
assembled)

• *WhenAdding OilUse Multi-Purpose GearOil(I.E.S.A.E.80w/90 or
S.A.E. 85w/140 Multi-purpose gearoil)inGearbox.
• For all GreaseFittingsuseTYPE/gradeIItubegrease.
STEP1 Placerotarymowersothatthe deckis secure and level.
STEP2 Remove1/2” PipePlug (Located attopofgearbox)and 1/8”PipePlug
(locatedatlower 1/3ofgearbox)ifoilcomesoutlower hole replacelower plug
immediatelyand continueto Step4. If no oilcomesout continueto Step3.
STEP3 Nowthat you havecheckedthegearboxlubricationlevel and itisnotlevel with
1/8”hole, add oneofthemulti-purpose gearoilslistedabove* throughtop
1/2”holeuntillubricationislevel withlower 1/8"hole.
STEP4 Replaceboththe 1/2” pipeplug(locatedattop ofgear box)and 1/8"pipe plug
(located atlower 1/3ofgearbox)andcleanawayanyexcessoil.
STEP5 Grease(withagrade II type tubegrease),
The following zerks:
Tail wheel, wheel fork (SeeFigureM-1, page22).
Tail wheel fork (SeeFigureM-1, page22).
BothU-Joints onthePTOShaft (SeeFigureM-2,page22).
STEP6 Inspectallguardstoinsuretheyarein goodworking order.If notreplace
beforeusing.
STEP7 Checkallbolts,nuts andbelttoinsuretheyare tightandsecure.

l Inadditiontothedesignandconfigurationofequipment,hazardcontrol and
accidentprevention aredependentupon theawareness,concern,prudenceand
proper trainingofpersonnelinvolved in the operation,transport,maintenanceand
storage ofthisequipment.
l It hasbeen said,“The bestsafetydeviceisaninformed,careful operator.”Weask
you tobethatkindofoperator.Itistheoperator’sresponsibilitytoread and
understandallsafetyand operatinginstructionsin themanual andtofollowthem.
Accidents can beavoided.
l Working withunfamiliar equipmentcanlead tocarelessinjuries.Read thismanual,
and themanualforyour tractor,beforeassemblyoroperating,toacquaintyourself
withthemachines.If thismachineisusedbyanyperson otherthanyou,oris
loanedorrented,itistherotarymowerowner’sresponsibilitytomakecertain that
owner's manual beavailable totheoperatorpriortooperating:
1- Reads and understandstheoperator’smanuals.
2- Isinstructedin safeand properuse.
l Knowyour controlsandhowtostoptractor,engine,andthemower quicklyin an
emergency. Read this manual and theone provided withyour tractor.
l Train all newpersonnel and reviewinstructionsfrequentlywithexisting workers. Be
certainonlyaproperlytrainedandphysicallyablepersonwill operatethe
machinery.Aperson who hasnotread and understoodall operatingand safety
instructionsisnotqualifiedtooperatethe machine.Anuntrained operatorexposes
himselfand bystanderstopossibleseriousinjuryor death.If theelderlyare
assistingwithfarmwork,theirphysicallimitationsneed toberecognized and
accommodated.

PREPARTION
l Neveroperatethe tractorandmoweruntil you haveread andcompletelyunderstand
thismanual,theTractorOperator’sManual,andeachof the safetymessagesfoundon
thesafetysignsonthe tractorandmower.
l Personalprotectionequipmentincludinghardhat,safetyglasses,safetyshoes,andglovesare
recommendedduringassembly,installation,operation,adjustment, maintenance,repairing,
removal,ormovingthe implement. Donotallowlonghair,loosefittingclothing,orjewelrytobe
aroundequipment.
l PROLONGEDEXPOSURETOLOUD NOISE MAYCAUSE PERMANENTHEARINGLOSS!
Tractorswithorwithoutmowersattached can oftenbenoisyenoughtocausepermanent, partial
hearingloss.Werecommendthatyou wearhearingprotectiononafull-timebasisifthenoisein
theoperator’sposition exceeds80db.Noiseover80dbonalong-term basiscancausesevere
hearingloss.Noiseover90 db adjacenttothe operatoroveralong-termbasismaycause
permanent, totalhearingloss. NOTE: Hearingloss fromloudnoise(fromtractors,chainsaws,
radios,andothersuchsourcesclosetotheear) iscumulativeoveralifetimewithouthopeof
naturalrecovery.
l Operatethemoweronlywithatractorequippedwithan approvedRoll-Over-ProtectiveSystem
(ROPS).Alwayswearyourseatbelt. Seriousinjuryofeven deathcouldresultfromfallingoff the
tractor — particularlyduringaturnoverwhen the operatorcouldbepinnedundertheROPSorthe
tractor.
l Cleararea tobecutofstones,branchesorotherdebristhatmightbe thrown,causinginjuryor
damage.
l Operateonlyindaylight orgood artificiallight.
l Ensuremowerisproperlymounted,adjustedandingoodoperatingcondition.
l Ensurethat all safetyshieldingandsafetysignsareproperlyinstalledandingoodcondition.
STARTINGANDSTOPPINGSAFETY
l Check the tractormastershieldoverthe PTOstub shaft. Makesureitisingood condition and
fastenedsecurelytothetractor.Purchaseanewshieldifoldshieldisdamaged ormissing.
l All tractorsthatarenotequippedwitha“live”powertakeoff (PTO)need tobeequippedwithan
over-runningPTOclutch.Theseareavailablethroughmostfarmequipmentstores.NOTE: The
additionofan over-runningPTOclutchmaychangethelengthofthe PTOdriveline required.Pay
extraattentiontotheinstructionsonthePTOdriveline Installation.Besurethatthedriveline
systemguardingisadequate.
l MoweroperatingpowerissuppliedfromtractorPTO. RefertoyourtractormanualforPTO
engagement and disengagement instructions.Knowhowtostop tractorand mowerquicklyincase
ofanemergency.
l When engagingPTO, the engine RPMshouldalwaysbe atidlespeed.Onceengaged and ready
tostartcutting, raisePTO speedto540 RPMand maintainthroughout cuttingoperation.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY
l The useofthisequipmentissubjecttocertain hazardsthatcannotbe protected
againstbythe mechanicalmeansor productdesign.Alloperatorsofthis
equipmentmustread andunderstand thisentiremanual,paying particular attention
tosafetyand operatinginstructions,prior tousing.Ifthere issomethinginthis
manual you do notunderstand,askyour supervisor,oryour dealer,toexplain itto
you.
l Mostaccidentsoccurbecauseofneglectorcarelessness. Keepallhelpersand
bystandersatleastseveral hundred feetfroman operating rotarymower.Only
properlytrainedpeople shouldoperatethismachine.
lWhen machineisoperatedin populated areaswhere thrownobjectscouldinjure
personsorproperty, operation mustbestoppedwhenanyonecomes within
several hundredfeet.
l The majorityoftheaccidentsinvolveentanglementonthe driveline,injuryof
bystandersbythe objectsthrownbythe rotatingblades,and operatorsbeing
knockedoffthetractor bylowhanging limbsandthen beingrun over bythe mower.
Accidentsare mostlikelytooccurwithmachinesthatare loanedor rented to
someone who hasnotreadtheowner’smanualand isnotfamiliar witharotary
mower.
l The rotarymower is designed foruseonlyon tractorswith 540-RPM power takeoff.
l Installandsecure all guardsandshieldsbeforestartingoroperating.The discharge

l Disengagepower takeoff(PTO)andplacetransmission in neutralbefore attempting
tostartengine.
l Manyvaried objects,suchas wire,cable,rope, orchains,canbecome
entangledintheoperatingpartsofthemower.Theseitemscouldthen swing
outside thehousingatgreatervelocitiesthantheblades.Suchasituation is
extremelyhazardous. Inspectthecutting areafor suchobjects before mowing.
Removeanylikeobjectsfrom the site.

damage,seriousinjury,or even death,never allowthecuttingbladestocontact

l Stopmower and tractorimmediatelyupon strikinganobstruction.Turn engine off,
removekey, inspect andrepair anydamage before resuming operation.
l Stayalertfor uneven terrain,holes,rocks,androotsandotherhiddenhazards.
Keep awayfromdrop-offsandhazardsthatcouldcauseroll over.
l Useextremecareand maintainminimumground speed when transporting or
operatingonhillsides,over roughground andwhen operatingclosetoditchesor
fences. Becarefulandslowdownwhen turningsharpcornersandchanging
direction onslopes.Donotstartorstop suddenlyon slopes. Avoid operation on
steepslopes. Inextremelyuneven terrain,rearwheelsweights,fronttractorweight,
and/ortire ballast should beused toimprovestability.

tractorfrontwheels.Withoutthisweight,tractorcouldtipover,causingpersonal
injuryor death.Theweightmaybe attained withafront- end loader,frontwheel
weights, ballastin the tiresorfronttractorweights.Whenattainingaminimum
20% oftractorandequipmentweighton thefrontwheels,you mustnotexceed
theROPSweightcertification.Weighthe tractor andequipment. Donotguess
or estimate!
TRANSPORT SAFETY
l Complywithstateand locallawsgoverninghighwaysafetyand movementof
farmmachineryon publicroads.
l The useofflashingamber lightsisacceptable in mostlocalities.However,some
localitiesprohibittheir use.Locallawsshouldbecheckedforalllightingand
markingrequirements.
l Atalltimes, when driving thetractorandequipmentontheroador highway
under 20mph (32kph) useflashing amber warning lightsand aslowmoving
vehicle (SMV) identificationemblem. Donotexceed 20mph (32kph).Reduce
speedon roughroads and surfaces.
l Plan your routetoavoid heavytraffic.
l Always install transportlocks,pinsor brackets before transporting.
l Donotdrinkand drive.
l Be asafeandcourteousdriver.Alwaysyield tooncomingtrafficinall situations,
includingnarrowbridges,intersections,etc. Watchfor trafficwhen operating
near orcrossingroadways.

mower in theshortestdistancepositionshutdownthetractorandSECURELY
BLOCKROTARYMOWER IN POSITION.
STEP4
Pull apartPTOshaft andattachouter section totractor PTOoutput shaft.NOTE:
Be sure topullonPTOshaftsection toensureyokehaslockedintoplace.

order tolocatethelongest distancebetween equipment inputshaftandthe
tractorPTOoutput shaft.Withtherotarymower in thelongestdistanceposition,
shutdownthetractor andSECURELYBLOCKTHEROTARYMOWER IN
POSITION.
STEP7
Asin step 5holdPTOshaftsectionstogetherandcheck for aminimumof6
inches ofoverlap.IfPTOshafthasbeenmarked forcuttingtheoverlap isthe
distancemeasuredbetween thetwomarks.IfthePTOshafthas lessthana6

STEP8
Applyanymulti-purposegreasetotheoutside ofthemale(inner) PTOshaft
section.AssemblePTOshaftand install onrotarymowerand tractor.
NOTE: If you sheartheboltthatattachesthePTOshafttothegearboxreplacewitha
grade 2bolt only. Replacement withanothergradeof bolt will void your warranty
and maycauseterminal damagetothePTOshaft,gearbox, or tractor.

STEP9
Pull ontractorside of PTOshaftyoketobe sureit haslocked in place. Make
certain PTOshaft shielding isin placeand goodworking condition.

The PTOshaft shield is anon-rotatingdesignandmustbesecuredprior to
equipmentuse.Using thechainoneachyokeshieldattachtoafixed objecton
the tractor and equipment endsthatwill notallowthePTOshaft shield torotate
during operation.
