3Update procedure
If you have never update a Nano with your computer, start
to the chapter 3.1 Installation of the tools.
If you have a Nano firmware older than 18.XX.XX , start to
the chapter 3.2.1 Update preparation.
If you have a Nano firmware greater than 18.XX.XX, follow
only the chapter 3.2.2 Firmware update.

3.1 Installation of the tools
The following steps need to be done on a computer that you will use to update the Nano, only
once. The complete procedure is also described in this video:

3.1.1 FLIP software installation
Go onto the ATMEL website to download the FLIP software:
http://www.microchip.com/developmenttools/productdetails.aspx?partno=flip
If you’re using Windows, download the FLIP version with Java Runtime Environment included, as
shown on Figure 54 below. It will first check if have Java Runtime Environment and install it if not.

Execute the installer you’ve just downloaded. Install Java Runtime Environment if needed (Figure
2below), and then, install Flip. Accept the terms in the License Agreement, and let the default values,
as shown in Figure 3 below.

3.1.2 Device installation
First, connect the Nano to the computer, in bootloader mode:
1. Switch off the Nano (on/off button).
2. Connect the USB cable to the PC and the Nano.
3. Switch on the Nano while holding the red button down.
The first time you connect your Nano to your computer, you will have to install the correct driver.
Open the device manager. The Nano will be in “Other devices”.

Click right on it to update driver software. Search the driver on your computer. If you have let the
default values when installing Flip, the driver will be in the folder:
“C:\Program Files(x86)\Atmel\Flip 3.4.7\usb”

Once the driver correctly installed, the Nano will be recognized as an Atmel USB Device in the
Device manager.
Next : prepare the Nano.

3.2 Nano update
You need to see the current firmware release of the Nano (Menu > Settings > Identity).
If the Nano have a firmware release less than 18.XX.XX you need to prepare the update. On the
other hand, you can go to the paragraph 3.2.2 Firmware update.
3.2.1 Update preparation
1. Switch off the Nano (on/off button).
2. Turn on the Nano while holding the red button down.

Before starting the update, clear the SD card
create the configuration file in the folder “\conf\nano.nv” according to your type of screen.
Name
Parameter

0 –SCE screen
1 –PICASO screen
Example:
This is an example of nano.nv configuration file for a SCE screen :
nvScreen = 0
Put the SD card and put the nano.nv file on the SD card before the update. After the update, the
Nano loads the configuration file and deletes it.
Put the SD card on the nano.
In case of you have a doubt for the hardware determination, call uRTime

3.2.2 Firmware update
Execute the following steps every time you want to update your Nano firmware.
To download the latest Nano software release, go to the support website:
http://support.rfconception.com/uRTime/nano/
A password, provided by RFConception, will be required to log in.
Download the firmware: the filename contains the date of the version.

Once downloaded, unzip the file. You should have two files: “flashNano.bat” and “nano.elf”.
Connect the Nano in bootloader mode:
1. Switch off the Nano (on/off button).
2. Connect the USB cable to the PC and the Nano.
3. Switch on the Nano while holding the red button down.
Execute the “flash.bat” file (by double clicking on it). A window will appear and the update start.
It will take a few minutes. Once the update finished, press any key to close the window.

3.2.3 Nano configuration
After the update, go to the “Nano Type” menu (Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings).
A password is required to enter Nano Type, RFID Power or Up Screen. The password is “urtime”.
With this menu (Figure 9), configure the Nano in function of the hardware:
•To know your RDIF type go to: 3.2.3.1 RFID Type
•To know your GSM Modem type go to: 3.2.3.2 Modem type
•To know if you have a XBee or a Wi-Fi module go to: 3.2.3.3 Wi-Fi / XBee module
•To know if you have a satellite module go to: 3.2.3.4 Satellite module

3.2.4 Images screen update
As of April 2018, firmware versions use new icons.
To make the update, get the files IMAGES.GCI and IMAGER.GCI from the support website
(http://support.rfconception.com/uRTime/nano/01_icons/new).
Turn off the nano.
Put a fully charged battery.
Put the SD card on the computer and place the files IMAGES.GCI and IMAGER.GCI to the folder
“/conf/”.
Turn on the nano.
To update the images of the screen, go to the advance menu (Menu > Settings > Advanced
Settings > Up Screen).
A password is required to enter Up Screen. The password is “urtime”.
With the PICASO screen the file transfer can take up 5 minutes par files.
With the SCE screen the file transfer can take up 40 minutes par files.

Select “Up Screen” to perform the transfer.
