1. User Guide
1.1 Introduction
Congratulations on selecting the “Locator”. This device provides exciting new locating features offered by the latest
wireless technologies in the market today. The Locator is a wrist worn device suitable for children and adults. Easy
adaptations can be made for use with pets, vehicles etc.
The user guide explains the use of different features both from the novice as well as the experienced user’s
perspective.

Scroll, used to scroll through a list of stored pages.
Erase, used to delete a selected page message.

1.3 Operation
1.3.1 Activating the Locator
The Locator needs to be subscribed to the PCS network for being able to communicate with the Call Management
Center (CMC). The data regarding the location is captured by the device and transmitted through the PCS network
for the CMC being able to track the device.

Insert any key fob (authorized or unauthorized) into the Locator’s fob port.
1. Attach the charging transformer to the key fob to start charging. While the unit is being charged, the battery
icon bars flash. When the battery is fully charged, the flashing stops, and the battery icon displays all bars.
2. Remove the key fob when the Locator gets charged to its full capacity. Optionally the charger may be left
attached to maintain battery charge while being used.
The Locator is able to maintain operation while charging. Please note that if the battery temperature exceeds a safe
charging temperature the device will not charge.
1.3.3 Turning the Locator On and Off
To switch on the power:
1. Insert any key fob in the Locator and attach a charging transformer to the fob. The Locator will display one
ofthe following:

To switch off the power:
1. Contact the CMC center and request that the device be turned off. Once the power is switched on, there is
no way to turn off the device locally.
1.3.4 Enabling or disabling the Page Alert audible
The Page Alert audible can be enabled or disabled at any time by pressing the Page Alert button. If the page
alert feature was previously disabled, then it is now enabled, and the icon appears. If the page alert feature
was previously enabled, then it is now disabled. The icon disappears.

1.3.5 Pager Mode
1.3.5.1 Receiving and Reading New Messages
When a new message is received, the pager issues an audible alert (if the incoming message alert has been enabled)
and displays the new message on the display.
1. Press any key to stop the audible alert. If no button is pressed, the audible alert will automatically be turned
off after 5 seconds. If it was the Page Alert key that was pressed, it will also toggle the Page Alert feature
for future page messages received.
2. Information about the message as well as the message itself are shown. The number is displayed on the top
line, the message identifier on the bottom line and the time/date stamp on the bottom line.

Pager Display Mode will automatically exit and return to time display if no activity occurs for 10 seconds.
1.3.5.2 Reading Old Messages
1. Enter pager display mode by pressing the scroll key from the time of day mode.
2. The most recent message (with accompanying meta-data) is displayed.

3. To display the next message, press the scroll key again. Messages are ordered by newest to oldest.
1.3.5.3 Deleting Old Messages
1. Enter pager display mode by pressing the scroll or erase key from the time of day mode. (If a new message
has been received, pager display mode is entered automatically.)
2. Press the scroll key until the message to be deleted is displayed.
3. Press the erase key.
4. A deletion prompt “Delete Page n y/n?” is displayed. Press the erase key again to delete the message. Press
scroll to cancel the delete. In either case, the next oldest message in storage (if any) is displayed. Note that
a message deletion will cause renumbering of remaining messages from 0 to 9 with 0 being the latest.
1.3.6 Airplane mode:
1. Insert an authorized key fob into the Locator.
2. Press the airplane button on the key fob.
3. “Off ” appears on the display.
4. Press the airplane button on the key fob again. “1:00” appears on the bottom line of the display. Continue to
press the fob button to increase the duration of airplane mode by 1 hour increments until the desired
duration is reached. The maximum duration is 24 hours. Continuing to press the airplane fob button will
cycle through the “Off” prompt as well as the time increments again.
5. After 5 seconds of inactivity, the airplane mode initiates using the time duration specified. The airplane
icon is displayed, and the countdown timer appears below the time and date. The Locator stops
sending transmissions for the specified duration. (If the last selection was “Off,” then airplane mode will be
turned off after the inactivity.) Once the airplane mode time has expired , the Locator automatically exits
this mode of operation.
1.3.7 Issuing a Panic Alarm
1. Press the scroll and Page Alert buttons simultaneously to inform the CMC about a panic condition.
2. The Signal Strength icon flashes to indicate that the alarm report is in progress. Once a successful
report occurs the flashing stops.
Once a panic alarm is triggered, the Locator will continue trying to report the alarm to the CMC until it has been
reported successfully or the battery power is depleted. Do to location effects on the ability of the Locator to report,
the report time has a minimum of 6 seconds to a maximum of hours.

1.3.8 Locking/Unlocking the Locator
The Locator is designed to be locked onto the wearer’s wrist. Perform the following steps to lock or unlock;
1. Ensure the Locator has been subscribed (shows time of day on display) and that the actuating fob is
authorized (up to five fobs can be authorized, check with the CMC to program the Locator to enable a
specific fob).
2. Insert the clasp strap into the latch.
3. Insert the fob into the Locator port.
4. Momentarily press the fob lock/unlock button.
5. If Locator was previously unlocked, it locks and vice-versa. Check the lock icon to ensure the proper
action has occurred.
Note that the CMC may also perform an unlock action if requestedby the owner of the device.
1.4 Optional Subscription Features
The optional features described in this section are remotely enabled/disabled by the CMC. If enabled a resulting
alarm will be initiated by the CMC subject to the battery management described in “Battery Power Management”
1.4.1 Battery Alarm:
The locator periodically measures the battery level and determines if the level is such that only minimal operation
time remains. On determination, it informs the CMC of the low battery condition. This same low battery level is
indicated to the user by a single bar in the battery icon.
1.4.2 Tamper Alarm:
A tamper alarm is triggered automatically when the Locator detects the device has been tampered with. The tamper
report is handled the same as for the panic alarm. Refer to “Issuing a panic alarm”.
Note that the tamper alarm circuits are not enabled until the Locator is in a locked state.
1.4.3 Malfunction Alarm:
The locator periodically runs a self-test. If a malfunction is detected it is reported to the CMC (if the nature of the
malfunction allows the Locator to do so). Once reported (or if unable to report) the display momentarily shows an
error message then powers the Locator powers itself down.

1.5 Battery Power Management:
Reporting of information to the CMC by the Locator is the largest power consumption activity performed by the
Locator. In order to preserve a minimal amount of power for the reporting of critical alarms (tamper and panic), a
reserve energy threshold is programmed into the unit. When the battery level falls below this preprogrammed
threshold all data and alarm reporting to the CMC is disabled except for the critical alarms.

2. Key Fob Operation
The key fob provides two buttons, a charger, and a port interface. They are used for the following features of the
Locator:
?? Charging: When both the fob and DC Jack are attached, the Locator can be charged.
?? Locking/unlocking: Pressing the Lock/Unlock Button toggles between locking and unlocking the clasp.
?? Airplane mode activation: Pressing the Airplane-Mode Button allows the user to advance through a table of
deactivation times.
