GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
A chainsaw is a high-speed, fast cutting power tool and as a result special safety
precautions must be taken to reduce the risk of personal injury.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Please read this manual carefully prior to operating the chainsaw. It contains important
safety, maintenance and operating instructions. Read these instructions thoroughly even if
you are already familiar with chainsaw use.
1. Never operate a chainsaw when you are fatigued, ill, upset, or under the inuence of
medication that may make you drowsy, if you are under the inuence of alcohol or
drugs.
2. Use safety footwear, snug tting clothing and eye, hearing and head protection devices.
Use the vibration proof glove.
3. Keep the saw chain sharp and the saw, including the anti vibration system, well
maintained. A dull chain will increase cutting time, and pressing a dull chain through
wood will increase the vibrations transmitted to your hands. A saw with loose
components or with damaged or worn anti vibration buffers will also tend to have
higher vibration level.
4. All the above mentioned precautions do not guarantee that you will not sustain white
nger disease or carpal tunnel syndrome. Therefore, continual and regular users should
monitor closely the condition of their hands and ngers. If any of the above symptoms
appear, seek medical advice immediately.
5. Always use caution when handling fuel. Wipe up all spills and then move the chainsaw
at least 3 meters from the fueling point before starting the engine.
6. Eliminate all sources of sparks or ame (i.e. smoking, open ames, or work that can
cause sparks) in the areas where fuel is mixed, poured, or stored.
7. Do not smoke while handling fuel or while operating the chainsaw.
8. Do not allow other persons to be near the chainsaw when starting or cutting. Keep
bystanders and animals out of the work area. Children, pets and bystanders should be

7
a minimum of 10 meters away when you start or operate the chainsaw.
9. Never start cutting until you have a clear work area, secure footing and a planned
retreat path from the falling tree.
10. Always hold the chainsaw rmly with both hands when the engine is running. Use a rm
grip with thumb and ngers encircling the chainsaw handles.
11. Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain when the engine is running.
12. Before you start the engine, make sure the saw chain is not contacting anything.
13. Always carry the chainsaw with the engine stopped, the chain bar and saw chain to the
rear, and the mufer away from your body.
14. Always inspect the chainsaw before each use for worn, Ioose, or damaged parts. Never
operate a chainsaw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or is not completely and
securely assembled. Be sure that the saw chain stops moving when the throttle lever is
released.
15. All chainsaw service work, other than in this manual, should be performed by
competent chainsaw service personnel. (Example, if improper tools are used to remove
the ywheel, or if an improper tool is used to hold the ywheel in order to remove the
clutch, structural damage to the ywheel could occur which could subsequently cause
the ywheel to disintegrate.)
16. Always turn off the engine before setting the chainsaw down.
17. Use extreme caution when cutting small size brush and saplings because slender
material may catch the saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.
18. When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back so that you will not be
struck when the tension in the wood bres are released.
19. Never cut in high wind, bad weather, when visibility is poor or in very high or low
temperatures. Always check the tree for dead branches which could fall during the
felling operation.
20. Keep the handles dry, clean and free of oil or fuel mixture.
21. Operate the chainsaw only in well ventilated areas. Never start or run the engine inside a
closed room or building. Exhaust fumes contain dangerous carbon monoxide.
22. Do not operate the chainsaw in a tree unless specially trained to do so.
23. Guard against kickback. Kickback is the upward motion of the chain bar which occurs
when the saw chain at the nose of the chain bar contacts an object. Kickback can lead
to dangerous loss of control of the chainsaw.
24. When transporting your chainsaw, make sure the chain bar cover is in place.
25. SKATING- when the chainsaw fails to dig in during a cut, the chain bar can begin
hopping or dangerously skidding along the surface of the log or branch, possibly
resulting in the loss of control of the chainsaw. To prevent or reduce the skating, hold
the chainsaw with two hands and make sure the saw chain establishes a groove for
cutting.
SAFETY INFORMATION

8
26. Warning - Never cut small, exible branches or brush with your chainsaw. Their size and
exibility can easily cause the saw to bounce toward you or bind up with enough force
to cause a kickback. The best tools for this kind of work is a hand saw, pruning shears,
an axe or other hand tools.
KICKBACK SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR CHAINSAW USERS
A. Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the chain bar touches an object, or when
the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases
may cause a lightning fast reverse reaction, kicking the chain bar up and back towards
the operator. Pinching the saw chain along the top of the chain bar may push the chain
bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these reactions may cause you to lose
control of the saw, which could result in serious personal injury.
B. Do not rely exclusively on the safety devices built into your saw. As a chainsaw user you
should take several steps to keep cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
1. With a basic understanding of kickback you can reduce or eliminate the element of
surprise. Sudden surprise contributes to accidents.
2. Keep a good grip on the saw with both hands, the right hand on the rear handle,
and the left hand on the front handle, when the engine is running. Use a rm grip
with thumbs and ngers encircling the chainsaw handles. A rm grip will help you
reduce kickback and maintain control of the saw.
3. Make certain that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions. Do
not let the nose of the chain bar contact a log, branch, or any other obstruction
which could be hit while you are operating the saw.
4. Cut at high engine speeds.
5. Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height.
6. Follow the manufactures sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw
chain.
7. Only use replacement bars and chains specied by the manufacturer or the
equivalent.

ASSEMBLY
WARNING! Do not start the engine until the saw is fully assembled.
WARNING! Wear protective gloves at all times when handling the saw chain.
• Firmly push the chain brake lever forward then pull it
back (towards the front handle) to make sure the chain
brake is released. Listen for an audible click as a sign
that the chain brake is unlocked.
• Loosen and remove the bar retaining nuts by using with
combination wrench, then remove the clutch cover.
• Place the bucking spike with the points facing up, into
position then locate the holes with the screws and
tighten rmly.
• Slip the end of the chain bar under the edge of the clutch and then slot over the studs.

• (See Below) Lay the chain around the sprocket and check that the tangs of the chain
links are sitting correctly in the slots of the sprocket. Then lay the chain around the chain
bar in the direction shown below.
CORRECT
• The cutting edge of the saw chain faces forward
(towards the nose) on the top edge of the chain
bar.
CAUTION! The chainsaw is tted with a oating type chain sprocket. If the chain is
not tted correctly it can damage the drive spline and oil pump. This will void your
warranty if the engine is started.
BEFORE USING A NEW SAW CHAIN OR CHAIN BAR FOR THE FIRST TIME
LIBERALLY LUBRICATE THE SAW CHAIN AND CHAIN BAR BY HAND WITH AN
OIL CAN.
• Align the saw chain tensioning pin located on
the inside of the clutch cover saw chain tension
adjuster hole (A) in the chain bar.
• Fit the chain brake/clutch cover and bar fastening
nuts, nger tight only.
NOTE: You may need to adjust the position of the pin so
it will engage the saw chain tension adjuster hole (A) by
moving the chain tension screw as shown below.

11
NOTE: Make sure the chain brake is disengaged or
you will not be able to ret the chain brake/clutch
cover.
• Adjust the saw chain tension screw so that if the
chain is gently pulled down with the ngers at the
centre of the bar the gap between the chain and
the bar is 6 to 8mm.
CHECK: At this point double check to see if the
chain is sitting correctly on the sprocket and chain
bar. Do not proceed until they are sitting correctly.
• Firmly tighten the bar fastening nuts.

12
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING! Saw chain stretches during use, particularly when it is new. It will
occasionally be necessary to adjust and tighten.
NOTE: New chain will require adjustment in less than 5 cuts. Re-adjust it as often as
necessary.
CAUTION! Before re-adjusting the chain tension, loosen the bar fastening nuts and
then retighten them after the adjustment.
FUEL
USE FRESH UNLEADED FUEL (PETROL), 90 OCTANE OR BETTER – DO NOT use E10 or
Ethanol blends. Mix with a premium grade air cooled 2-Stroke oil at a ratio of 40:1
Mix fuel with 2-stroke oil in an approved container. Shake gently to ensure a thorough mix.
WARNING!: Never use raw fuel without oil in your unit. This will cause permanent
engine damage and void your warranty. Never use a fuel mixture that has been stored
for over 90 days.
CAUTION!: The 2 stroke oil must be a premium grade oil for 2-cycle air cooled
engines and must be mixed at a 40:1 ratio with the fuel. Bynorm 2 Stroke engine
oil is recommended. Mixing the fuel at a greater ratio than 40:1 provides insufcient
lubrication and will cause engine damage and voids your warranty.
FUELLING
WARNING! Always shut off engine before fuelling. Never add fuel to a machine with
a running or hot engine. Move at least 3 metres from refuelling site before starting the
engine. Do not SMOKE! Failure to heed this warning could result in serious personal
injury.
WARNING! Always ensure there is adequate ventilation when handling fuel.
WARNING! Fuel is very ammable. Use extreme care when mixing, storing or
handling fuel or serious personal injury may result.
FILLING THE FUEL TANK
1. Clean the surface around the fuel tank cap to prevent contamination.
2. Loosen fuel cap slowly to equalise the pressure.
3. Carefully pour fuel mixture into fuel tank. Do not overll, leave room for expansion. Avoid
spillage.
4. Replace fuel tank cap and hand tighten.
5. Wipe up any fuel spillage.

ADJUSTMENT
LUBRICATION OF CHAIN AND CHAIN BAR
Whenever you rell the fuel tank with fuel you must also top up the level of chain oil in the
chain oil tank. It is recommended to use chain bar oil.
Adequate lubrication of the saw chain is essential at all times to minimise friction with the
chain bar.
Never starve the bar and chain of oil. Running the saw with too little oil will decrease cutting
efciency, shorten saw chain life, cause rapid dulling of chain, and cause excessive wear
of the bar from overheating. Too little oil is evidenced by smoke, bar discolouration or pitch
build-up.
BEFORE USING A NEW SAW CHAIN OR CHAIN BAR FOR THE FIRST TIME
LIBERALLY LUBRICATE THE SAW CHAIN AND CHAIN BAR BY HAND WITH AN
OIL CAN.
CHAIN BAR OIL
Only use a good quality chain bar oil. Do not use waste or reclaimed oil. This results in
damage to the oil pump, saw chain and chain bar.
Bynorm
Bar & Chain
Oil is recommended
FILLING THE CHAIN/BAR OIL TANK
1. Clean the surface around the oil tank cap to prevent contamination.
2. Loosen oil cap.
3. Carefully pour the chain bar oil into the oil tank. Fill to maximum but don’t overll.
4. Replace oil cap.
5. Wipe up any oil spillage.

14
OPERATION
GETTING STARTED
It is very important to always keep the cutters sharp for smooth and safe
operation.
BEFORE STARTING CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE CHAIN BRAKE
• The chain brake should be activated by pushing it
forward before starting
NOTE: The brake lever should be able to snap into both
positions. If strong resistance is felt, or lever does not move into either position, do not use
your saw. Take it immediately to a Service Centre for repair.
• Fill the fuel tank with 40:1 fuel oil mix.
• Fill the oil tank with chain bar oil.
NOTE: Whenever you rell the fuel tank with fuel you must also top up the level of
chain bar oil in the oil tank.
STARTING THE ENGINE
• Push the engine on/off switch up to the
''ON'' position.
• Press the primer bulb several times. This
assists with starting and reduces the
number of pulls need to start. Pull out the
choke knob.
A

15
OPERATION
• Place the saw on a rm and level surface. Hold
the saw securely with your foot as illustrated. Pull
the starter handle 3 to 5 times. Stop when the
engine tries to re. ie the engine will splutter.
• Push the choke knob back in and then pull the
starter handle again several times until the engine
starts.
• When the engine starts let it idle for a couple
of seconds to warm up. Apply part throttle and
maintain the unit at a low to medium speed for a
further 10 second.
• Disengage the chain brake by pulling the chain
brake lever backward. At this point you can then
bring the motor to cutting speed.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
• To STOP the motor push the engine
on/off switch switch down to the OFF
position.

16
OPERATION
NOTE: To stop the engine in an emergency, activate
the chain brake and push the engine switch down to
the OFF position
OIL PUMP
Your chainsaw is equipped with an automatic oiler system. The oiler automatically
delivers the proper amount of oil to the bar and chain. As the engine speed increases,
so does the oil ow to the bar. The oil tank should be checked and topped up each
time the fuel tank is relled.
• Check the operation of the oil pump by
running the saw at a medium speed. There
should be visible spatters of oil coming from
the tip of the saw about 30 seconds after
starting the saw.
• If the saw chain does not get sufcient oil supply,
use the at blade screwdriver to adjust the oil supply
screw at the bottom of chainsaw. Follow the mark-
ings on the case to increase or decrease the ow.
Oil Spray

17
CAUTION! During normal operation the chain brake, clutch cover, bar and
chain are lubricated with chain bar oil. After use oil will drain for many weeks
and pool on the surface underneath the chainsaw.
Place the chainsaw on a protected surface to contain the draining lubricating
oil when not being used.
The following section on the operation of the chainsaw is a general guide only. The
use of a chainsaw by an inexperienced person can be extremely dangerous. If you
are unsure, please seek the assistance of a professional or get suitable training
before using the chainsaw.
WARNING!: Before every use check the operation of the chain break and oil
pump.
BUCKING SPIKES
The chainsaw has bucking spikes. These are
to assist with cutting and reduce the chance of
kickback. Keeping the bucking spikes touching
the wood when cutting will help prevent pinching
or kick-back.
BUCKING
Bucking is cutting a log into lengths for easier han-
dling. To saw a log lying on the ground, rst saw half-
way, then roll the log over and cut from the opposite
side. To saw the end of a log supported off the ground,
rst saw up from the bottom one third through the log
then nish by sawing down from the top. To saw a log
in the middle of two supports holding it off the ground,
rst saw down from the top one-third through the log
then nish by sawing up from the bottom. When buck-
ing on a slope, always stand on the uphill side.
NOTE: Be careful that the chain does not cut
into the ground when bucking as this causes
rapid dulling of the chain.
LIMBING
Limbing is the process of removing the branches from
a fallen tree. Check the direction in which a branch
will bend before cutting it. Always cut on the opposite
side to the bending direction so that the chain bar is
not pinched in the cut.
For large limbs that cannot be removed in one cut,
make an initial cut from the bent side and nish by
sawing from the opposite direction.
Do not remove limbs that are supporting the
OPERATION

18
fallen tree on the ground until the tree has been
cut into lengths.
WARNING! Always keep a well balanced stance. Do not stand on the log. Be alert to
the fact that the log may roll over. When working on a slope, always stand on the uphill
side of the log.
PRUNING
Pruning is the removal of a limb or branch from a
standing tree.
WARNING! Do not use an unstable foothold
or ladder. Do not overreach. Do not saw
above shoulder height. Always use both
hands to hold the saw. First cut up from the
bottom and nish down from the top.
FELLING
Felling is the term for cutting down a tree. Small trees up to 6-7 inches (15-18cm) in diame-
ter are usually cut in a single cut. Larger trees require notch cuts. Notch cuts determine the
direction the tree will fall.
WARNING: Do NOT fell trees unless you have received the appropriate training.
WARNING: A retreat path ( A) should be planned and cleared as necessary before
cuts are started. The retreat path should extend back and diagonally to the rear of the
expected line of fall, as illustrated.
NOTE: Direction of fall (B) is controlled by the notch-
ing cut. Before any cuts are made, consider the
location of larger branches and natural lean of the
tree to determine the way the tree will fall.
