1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 Preface
The ZEUSTM Z3-MVE-SPEC is a rack mountable card frame capable of supporting four independent
blades. Typical function blades include video encoders and decoders in resolutions up to 4K with
various input and output formats. Support function blades for the MVE-SPEC include the BLE264-H4
which supports HDMI inputs and the BLE264-S4 which supports SDI inputs.
2.0 INCLUDED PARTS LIST
Included parts will differ based on product type ordered.
MVE-SPEC AC Power Supply
3.0 FEATURES
▪Compact, 1 RU design fits 19-inch rack systems
▪Four card slots for four independent video encoding or decoding systems
▪Provides the foundation for highly configurable video systems
▪Shallow rack depth requirement of 355mm
▪Provides up to 150W of DC power to the function slots
▪Operating temperature, frame only: 0 to 50 degrees C at 20-80% relative humidity
▪Storage temperature, frame only: -10 to +80 degrees C at 20-80% relative humidity
4.0 OPERATING CONTROLS
4.1 MVE-SPEC
The MVE-SPEC has an AC power switch located near the AC power entry on the rear. That
switch physically interrupts the AC power path to the power supply, and therefore controls
power to all slots.
The front panel contains a power indicator LED, which will illuminate green when power is
available for the function slots.

5.0 CONNECTIONS
All connections to the MVE-SPEC frame are on the rear as follows:
5.1 AC Power
Power jack for AC power input, compliant with IEC 60320-1 C14
5.2 Serial Port Jacks
The rear panel contains 16 jacks for serial communications with the functions on the four blades,
divided in four groups of four. Serial jacks number 1 thru 4 are routed to slot 1, serial jacks 5 thru 8
are routed to slot 2 and so on.

The exact function of these connectors are assigned by the blades, please consult the specific blade
user’s guide to determine the ultimate function of the connector.
6.0 GETTING STARTED AND RUNNING THE Z3-MVE-SPEC
6.1 Basic Setup and Operation
(1) Mount the MVE-SPEC chassis onto a 19-inch standard rack
(2) Plug and route the AC power cord to the AC power source
(3) Insert and lock all desired function blades
(4) Insert and lock as many blank panel covers as necessary to completely close the front of the
unit.
(5) Connect the cables as required per each function blade
(6) Turn power on
NOTE: It is mandatory to have all slots of the chassis occupied, and the BLE264-FP blanks *MUST* be used
where there are no active blades. The entire front of the MVE-SPEC must be enclosed.
7.0 IMPORTANT NOTES
7.2 Compatible Blades
Only insert into the MVE-SPEC blades compatible with the MVE-SPEC system. At the time of this
writing the compatible function blades are BLE264-H4 (4 channels of H264 encoding with HDMI
input), BLE264-S4 (4 channels of H264 encoding with SDI input) and the BLD265-SC2 (two channels of
H264 or H265 decoding with composite and SDI output).
Please consult Z3 Technology for additional functions.
7.3 Cooling
The MVE-SPEC chassis contains four fans used to bring in cool air from the front of the rack. The cool
air is forced through the function blades, which typically contain a number of heat sinks, and
expelled through the vents on the rear of the rack.
It is very important to keep the air intake path on the front of the unit unobstructed and free of
debris.
It is also important to only operate the unit with all card slots covered to maintain the integrity of
the air flow. The MVE-SPEC must have its front panel completely enclosed even when less than four
slots are taken by function blades. In this case the unused slots must be enclosed using blank panel
covers, part number BLE264-FP.
7.4 Order of populating blades into the MVE-SPEC chassis
Blades can be inserted in any slot without any particular order.

7.5 No hot-plugging of cards
The MVE-SPEC rack and blades are NOT hot pluggable. Hot plugging blades can cause permanent
damage to the slot connectors. Note: hot swapping Blades will VOID warranty on MVE-SPEC and
Blades.
