Pole Chain Saw Safety
Warnings
1. Keep all parts of the body away
from the saw chain when the chain
saw is operating. Before you start the
chain saw, make sure the saw chain is
not contacting anything. A moment of
inattention while operating chain saw
may cause entanglement of your
clothing or body with the saw chain.
2. Always hold the chain saw with your
right hand on the rear handle and
your left hand on the front handle.
Holding the chain saw with a reversed
hand configuration increases the risk of
personal injury and should never be
done.
3. Hold the power tool by insulated
gripping surfaces only, because the
saw chain may contact hidden wiring
or its own cord. Saw chains contacting
a “live” wire may make exposed metal
parts of the power tool “live” and
could give the operator an electric
shock.
4. Wear safety glasses and hearing
protection. Further protective
equipment for head, hands, legs and
feet is recommended. Adequate
protective clothing will reduce personal
injury by flying debris or accidental
contact with the saw chain.
5. Do not operate a chain saw in a
tree. Operation of a chain saw while
up in a tree may result in personal
injury.
6. When cutting a limb that is under
tension be alert for spring back.
When the tension in the wood fibers is
released the spring loaded limb may
strike the operator and/or throw the
chain saw out of control.
7. Use extreme caution when cutting
brush and saplings. The slender
material may catch the saw chain and
be whipped toward you or pull you off
balance.
8. Follow instructions for lubricating,
chain tensioning and changing
accessories. Improperly tensioned or
lubricated chain may either break or
increase the chance of kickback.
9. Keep handles dry, clean, and free
from oil and grease. Greasy, oily
handles are slippery causing loss of
control.
10.Cut wood only. Do not use chain saw
for purposes not intended. For

7
example: do not use chain saw for
cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood
building materials. Use of the chain
saw for operations different than
intended could result in a hazardous
situation.
Kickback Safety
Kickback may occur when the nose or
tip of the guide bar touches an object,
or when the wood closes in and pinches
the saw chain in the cut.
Tip contact in some cases may cause a
sudden reverse reaction, kicking the
guide bar up and back towards the
operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of
the guide bar may push the guide bar
rapidly back towards the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you
to lose control of the saw which could
result in serious personal injury. Do not
rely exclusively upon the safety devices
built into your saw. As a chain saw user,
you should take several steps to keep
your cutting jobs free from accident or
injury.
Understanding Kickback
A basic understanding of kickback can
help reduce or eliminate the
element of surprise and the chance of
kickback-related injury. Sudden surprise
contributes to accidents.
a) Rotational Kickback can
happen when the upper tip of the guide
bar contacts an object while the chain is
moving . This can cause the chain to dig
into the object and momentarily stop
moving. The guide bar is then kicked up
and back toward the operator in a
lightning-fast reverse reaction.
b) Linear Kickback can happen
when the wood on either side of a cut
closes in and pinches the moving saw
chain along the top of the guide bar.
This can cause the chain to instantly
stop. The chain force is then reversed,
causing the saw to move in the
opposite direction, sending the saw
straight back toward the operator.
c) Pull-In can happen when the
moving chain on the bottom of the
guide bar hits a foreign object inside
the wood. This can cause the chain to
suddenly stop. The saw is then pulled
forward and away from the operator,
which could potentially result in the
loss of control of the saw.
Kickback Safety Precautions
Take the following steps to reduce the
chance of accident or injury:
1. Do not rely exclusively upon the
safety devices built into the unit.
2. Do not overreach. Always keep
proper footing and balance. Take extra
care when working on stairs, steep
slopes or inclines.

8
3. Do not extend arms above shoulder
height.
4. Do not make cuts with the tip of the
guide bar.
5. Make sure the area of operation is
free from obstructions. Do not let the
tip of the guide bar contact any object,
such as a log, branch, the ground or
other obstruction.
6. Always inspect the wood before
cutting. Foreign objects could damage
the unit or cause serious personal
injury. Never cut through nails, metal
rods, railroad ties or pallets.
7. Do not operate the unit with one
hand! Serious injury to the operator,
helpers or bystanders may result from
one-handed operation. This unit is
intended for two-handed use. Always
grip the unit firmly with both hands
when the unit is running. Do not let go.
A firm grip will help maintain control of
the unit and reduce the chance of
kickback.
8. Hold the pole shaft with the left hand
and the rear handle with the right hand.
Firmly encircle the pole shaft and rear
handle with the thumbs and fingers.
9. Stand slightly to the left of the unit to
avoid being in the direct line of the saw
chain.
10.Never start the saw when the guide
bar is inside an existing cut. Be
extremely careful when re-entering a
cut.
11.Always begin a cut with the unit
running at full speed. Squeeze the
trigger switch and maintain a steady
cutting speed. Slower speeds increase
the chance of kickback.
12.Keep the saw housing pressed firmly
against the wood.
13.Do not cut more than one log or
branch at a time.
14.Do not twist the unit when removing
the guide bar from a cut.
15.Watch out for shifting objects (logs,
branches, etc.) that might pinch or fall
onto the saw chain during operation.
16.Only use wedges made of wood or
plastic. Do not use metal to hold a cut
open.
17.Follow the manufacturer’s
sharpening and maintenance
instructions for the saw chain.
18.Only use replacement bars and
chains specified by the manufacturer
or the equivalent. These are available
from authorized service centers. Use of
any unauthorized parts or accessories
could lead to serious injury to the
operator or damage to the unit and will
void the warranty.
19.Use devices that reduce the risks
associated with kickback, such as
low-kickback chains, guide bar nose
guards, chain brakes and low-kickback
guide bars. There are no other
replacement components for achieving
kickback protection in accordance with
CSA Z62.3.
20.A low-kickback saw chain is a chain
that has met the kickback performance
requirements of ANSI/OPEI
B175.1-2012 when tested according to
the provisions specified in ANSI/OPEI
B175.1 -2012. A low-kickback saw chain
is a chain that is also in accordance
with CSA Z62.3. Do not use a
replacement saw chain unless it has
met these requirements for this
specific model or has been designated

9
as a low-kickback replacement saw
chain in accordance with ANSI/OPEI
B175.1 -2012. As saw chains are
sharpened, some of the low-kickback
qualities are lost and extra caution
should be used.
23. Do not install a bow guide on this
unit. Bow guides have larger kickback
zones, which increase the chance of
kickback and serious injury. This
increase is not significantly reduced by
using a low-kickback saw chain. Using a
bow guide on this unit is extremely
dangerous.
Hedge Trimmer Safety
Warnings:
1. Use both hands when operating the
hedge trimmer. Using one hand could
cause loss of control and result in
serious personal injury.
2. Keep all parts of the body away
from the cutter blade. Do not remove
cut material or hold material to be cut
when blades are moving. Make sure
the switch is off when clearing jammed
material. Blades coast after turn-off. A
moment of inattention while operating
the hedge trimmer may result in
serious personal injury.
3. Carry the hedge trimmer by the
handle with the cutter blade stopped.
Proper handling of the hedge trimmer
will reduce possible personal injury
from the cutter blades.
4. Hold the power tool by insulated
gripping surfaces only, because the
cutter blade may contact hidden
wiring or its own cord. Cutter blades
contacting a “live” wire may make
exposed metal parts of the power tool
“live ” and could give the operator an
electric shock.
5. Keep cable away from cutting area.
During operation the cable may be
hidden in shrubs and can be
accidentally cut by the blade.
6. DANGER - Keep hands away from
blade. Contact with blade will result
in serious personal injury.
Vibration And Noise Reduction
1.To reduce the impact of noise and
vibration emission, limit the time of
operation, use low- vibration and
low-noise operating modes as well as
wear personal protective equipment.
2. Prolongedexposure to vibrations can
cause injuries and neurovascular
disorders (also called “Renaud’s
syndrome”or “white hand”). especially
to people suffering from circulation
disorders. The symptoms can regard
the hands, wrists and fingers and are
shown through loss of sensitivity,
torpor, itching, pain and discolouring of
or structural changes to the skin. These
effects can be worsened by low
ambient temperatures and/or by
gripping the handgrips excessively
tightly. If the symptoms occur, the
length of time the machine is used
must be reduced and a doctor
consulted.
3. When working with the device, a
certain level of noise cannot be avoided.
Noisy work should be scheduled for
hours, during which it is allowed by
statute or other local regulations.
Adhere to any applicable rest times and
limit your working time to the necessary
minimum time. For your personal
protection and the protection of people

10
nearby, suitable hearing protection must
be worn.
4.Take the following points into account
to minimize the vibration and noise
exposure risks:
- Only use the product as intended by its
design and these instructions.
- Ensure that the product is in good
condition and well maintained.
- Use correct application tools for the
product and ensure they in good
condition.
- Keep tight grip on the handles/grip
surface.
- Maintain this product in accordance
with these instructions and keep it well
lubricated (where appropriate).
- Plan your work schedule to spread any
high vibration tool use across a number
of days.
The prolonged use of the product,
exposes the client to vibrations that in
extreme cases and through many hours
of use of the product could cause the
"white finger syndrome" also known as
Raynaud phenomenon, This causes a
reduction in the tact of the fingers and
their capacity to regulate temperature
generating a lack of sensibility.This
sickness could in extreme cases cause
problems with the nerve endings.
The exposure to the vibrations is the
cause of the white finger syndrome, To
minimise this effect as much as possible,
follow the following recommendations:
-Always use gloves.
-Always have your hands warm.
-Ensure that the cutting device is
always sharp.
- Take frequent breaks.
- Always hold the product tightly by the
handles If you detect any of the
symptoms of the white finger
syndrome, consult immediately with
your doctor.
Safety Rules For Extension Cord
Make sure your extension cord is in
good condition. When using an
extension cord, be sure to use one
heavy enough to carry the current
your product will draw. An undersized
extension cord will cause a drop in line
voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. Table 1 shows the correct
size to use depending on cord length
and nameplate ampere rating. If in
doubt, use the next heavier gage. The
smaller the gage number, the heavier
the cord. To reduce the risk of
disconnection of appliance cord from
the extension cord during operating:
I) Make a knot as shown in Figure 1; or
II) Use one of the plug-receptacle
retaining straps or connectors described
in this manual.

the saw chain is spinning (rotational
kickback).Kickback can also occur if
the wood closes in and pinches the
sawchain insidethecut (linear
kickback).
ROTATIONAL KICKBACK - A sudden
backward and upward motion of the
guidebar and saw chain. Rotational
kickbackcanoccurif the upper portion
ofthe guidebar tip touches an object
while the saw chainis spinning. The
guide bar and saw chain are then
kicked upand back toward the
operatorin a lightning-fastreverse
reaction.
LINEAR KICKBACK (PINCH KICKBACK) -
A sudden backward motion of the
guidebar and saw chain. Linear (pinch)
kickbackcanoccurif the wood closes
in andpinches the saw chain inside a
cut. The saw isthen sent straight back
toward the operator.
NORMAL CUTTING POSITION - The
positions assumed while making
bucking and felling cuts.
LIMBING - Theprocess of removing
branches from a fallen tree.
PRUNING - The process of cutting limbs
from a livingtree.

Guide Bar and Saw Chain
WARNING: The saw chain is
very sharp. Always wear heavy-duty
protective gloves when handling or
performing maintenance on the saw
chain.
The guide bar and saw chain need to be
removed when certain maintenance
procedures are performed, such as
when rotating the guide bar. When
replacing old guide bars and sawchains
with new parts.
ATTENTION!Never touch,
adjust or file the chain with the engine
running. Disconnect the product
before operating the chain.
WARNING: Never start the
product beforeinstalling the chain, bar
and chain cover screw.
Without these pieces properly installed,
there is risk of personal damages.
1. Use only the guide bar and saw
chain according to the technical data
of the product.
WARNING: Always use a
saw chain designed as “low-kickback”
or a saw chain which meets the
low-kickback requirements! A
standard saw chain (a chain which
does not have the kickback reducing
guard links) should only be used by
an experienced professional operator!
Nevertheless, a low-kickback saw
chain does not completely eliminated
kickback! A low-kickback or “safety”
chain should never be regarded as
complete protection against injury!
The guide bar and chain can only be
adjusted, with the engine stopped.

17
2. Loosen bar-retaining nut with the
socket wrench provided anticlockwise
and removeit together with bar cover.
3. Ensure that the tension pin is
adjusted to its far right position. If not,
turn the tension screw anticlockwise
with the slotted screwdriver.
4. Spread the saw chain around the
guide bar. Slide the chain into the
groove around the guide bar. Pay
attention tothe cutting direction.
5. Align the saw chain around the drive
sprocket and place one corner of the
guide bar into a gap of the sprocket.
6. Make sure the tension pin is inserted
into the lower hole(B) on the guide
bar.
7. Refit the cover, slightly tighten the
bar-retaining nut. Do not tighten fully.
NOTE: The saw chain has not yet been
tensioned. Tension the chain as described
under “Adjusting The Chain Tension”.
After operating the product for approx.
30min, adjust the chain.
8. Check that the chain slides along the
bar maimtaining at all times the
tension when youmove it with your
gloved hands, If needed, repeat the
process until the chain is mounted
correctly.
ATTENTION! New chains
have a certain dilatation when first used.
Verify and regulate the tenion of the
chain regularly. An incorrectly tensed
chain will wear out quickly and will also
wear out the guide of the bar.
The Chain Tension
Always check the saw chain tension
before use. A new saw chain tends to
stretch and will need readjustment after
first cuts and regularly during use,
approx. every five cuts. After initial
operation, new chains can lengthen
considerably. This is normal during the
break-in period and the interval
between future adjustments will

18
lengthen quickly.
CAUTION:The guide bar, saw
chain, and saw bearings will wear more
rapidly if the saw chain is not properly
tensioned. Maintaining proper chain
tension will improve cutting
performance and prolong the lifeof the
saw chain.
WARNING: To prevent
serious injury, never touch the saw
chain or adjust thechain tension while
the unit is running. Disconnect the unit
from the power source to prevent the
unit from starting accidentally.
WARNING: The saw chain is
very sharp. Always wear heavy-duty
protective gloves when handling or
performing maintenance on the saw
chain.
Check the chain tension before and
during operation. Adjust the chain
tension whenever the flats on the saw
chain hang out of the bar groove.
1. Use the wrench to slightly loosen the
bar- retaining nuts. DO NOT remove
the bar-retaining nuts.
2. Hold the guide bar tip up and use a
flat-head screwdriver to turn the
chain-tensioning screw.
a) Turn the chain-tensioning screw
clockwise to tighten the saw chain.
b) Turn the chain-tensioning screw
counterclockwise to loosen the saw
chain.
The desired chain tension depends
upon the temperature of the saw chain.
c) Cold Chain Tensioning -The saw
chain should fit snuggly against the
underside of the guide bar. There
should be no sag.
d) Warm Chain Tensioning - The saw
chain will expand asit heats up during
operation. The drive links should hang
approximately 1/16 inch (1.3 mm) out
of the guide bar groove.

19
3. Check the chain tension using one
hand to lift the saw chain against the
weight of the product. The correct
chain tension is achieved when the
saw chain can be lifted by approx. 2-
4mm(0.94inch) from the guide bar in
the centre.
a. In example (A) the chain is too tense.
b. In example (B) the chain is not tense
enough.
4. Hold the guide bar tip up and move
the saw chain back and forth along the
guide bar. Make sure the sawchain
moves freely and is in proper mesh
with the sprocket. If the saw chain
does not move easily, slowly turn the
chain-tensioning screw
counterclockwise to loosen the saw
chain.
5. Hold the guide bar tip up and
securely tighten the bar-retaining nut.
Do not tense the chain too much.
Connecting To Power Supply
WARNING: Make sure the
trigger switch is released before
connecting or disconnecting the power
source. Refer to the “Starting and
Stopping” section.
The cable section must be at least
1.5mm2 and the cable must have a
maximum length of 25m(82ft) and it
must be completely unrolled before
starting to work with the product
Insert the extensionpower cord to the
hole and on the hook provided to this
effect at the back ofthe product.
Prolongators longerthan 25m(82ft) will
reduce the working efficiency of the
product.

for chainsaws that perform over a wide
range of temperatures with no diluting
required in the chain oil tank.
WARNING: Do not use oils
with impurities as this could damage
the oil pump of the product.
WARNING: Do not use motor
oil or any other petroleum-based oil. Do
not use dirty, used or contaminated oil.
Damage may occur to the guide bar or
saw chain. Dispose of old oil according
to local regulations.
