▪To clean the aluminium housing, please only use a cloth moistened with water and some detergent.

3 Unpacking and positioning
Great care must be exercised when unpacking the unit. Carefully store the transportation packaging for
the possibility of further use. If you have a claim on the warranty, always use the original packaging for
any necessary transportation. Transportation without this packaging can lead to damage to the housing.
Please check, if the following items are included:

This unit has no special requirements regarding its position, but it should be positioned on stable, even
and horizontal surface. You can even put the unit in a cupboard. For reasons of better access to the
various input and output sockets we recommend you position the unit in an audio rack. Professionally
designed audio racks can have a positive effect on the music reproduction of your audio system.
CAUTION!
Please observe at all times:
Before you connect the PLAYER I with some other unit using a cable, please never
forget that both units must first be switched off and disconnected from the mains
power.

5 Operating the PLAYER II
5. 1 PLAYER II as a CD player
The PLAYER II is an audiophile 24 bit / 192 kHz upsampling CD player with a very precise CD drive designed
purely for audio playback. The device is compatible to CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs.
In order to use the PLAYER II as a CD player, it is only necessary to connect the AUDIO OUTPUT analog
outputs to the corresponding analog inputs on your integrated amplifier (e.g. ACCUSTIC ARTS®POWER I)
or preamplifier. We recommend use of high quality audio cables.
Further information on CD player operation is available in Chapter 6 .
5. 2 PLAYER II as D/A converter
Four high quality digital inputs (coaxial and USB 32/384) additionally allow the PLAYER II to be a pure D/A
converter which can convert external digital signals into analog music signals. These inputs USB , IN-1 ,
IN-2 and IN-3 are selected by left rotary knob the on the front panel or with the AA system remote
control. When the device is used as a D/A converter, the CD section switches off and the selected input is
shown on the display.
In order to use the PLAYER II as a D/A converter, it is firstly necessary to connect both the AUDIO OUTPUT
analog outputs to the corresponding analog inputs on your integrated amplifier (e.g. ACCUSTIC ARTS®
POWER I) or preamplifier. Then you can connect the selected digital input to the appropriate digital output
of the respective source device. We recommend use of high quality audio cables.
Further information on D/A converter operation is available in Chapter 7 .
6 PLAYER I operation as a CD player
6. 1 Start-up and CD insertion
Switch on the device by pressing mains switch 2. The device switches automatically to CD mode. The laser
unit initialises itself for approximately 5 seconds and determines if a CD has been inserted or not. If no CD
has been inserted, the display changes to NO DISC ..
If there is a CD in the device, after the initialisation of the laser the number of music tracks and total
playing time of the CD are displayed. The display then shows, for example, the following:
09 65 : 20 .
This display indicates the inserted CD has 9 music tracks with a total playing time of 65 minutes and 20
seconds.
If you wish to load a CD or exchange a CD which is already loaded, then first of all slowly push the cover 16
to the back and the display shows 0PEN .. Now remove the CD clamper by lifting it upwards.
Please note that the clamper has an integrated magnet and therefore sits rather firmly on the CD. After
removing the clamper you may now remove a CD. When removing the CD take care not to touch the laser
unit. Finger prints and dirt on the laser unit can disturb the scanning process.
Insert the desired CD and now place the CD clamper in the middle of the CD. Make sure that the clamper
locks correctly into position, otherwise playback is not possible. Close the cover 16 completely again. After
the closing process the laser initialises again, i.e. it scans the inserted CD and determines the number of
music tracks as well as the total time. If no CD is loaded or the CD clamper is not correctly fixed on to the
CD, the display shows NO DISC ..
After the CD has been properly inserted the device is ready for operation and you can select the PLAY
FUNCTION with the right knob to play the CD.
Select the STOP to stop the CD.
The functions STOP and PLAY can also be operated from the remote control.

6. 2 The display and its functions
In the following you will find an overview of the most important display
functions of the unit and their meaning.

6. 3. 6 VOLUME
Use the VOLUME key to adjust the volume of an ACCUSTIC ARTS® integrated amplifier (e.g. our POWER I)
preamplifier (e.g. our TUBE PREAMP II).
CAUTION!
The PLAYER I itself is not equipped with a volume control.
6. 3. 7 REPEAT
Press the REPEAT key to activate the repeat mode. In repeat mode you either repeat a single track
(= REPEAT TRACK) or repeat all the tracks (= REPEAT ALL).
Activate and deactivate REPEAT TRACK:
Press 1 x REPEAT : display shows REPEAT TRACK .
After this, "RT" appears on the left side of the display;
"RT" indicates that the REPEAT TRACK function is active RT 02 01 : 09 ..
Press 2 x REPEAT to deactivate the function
Activate and deactivate REPEAT ALL:
Press 2 x REPEAT : display shows REPEAT ALL .
After this, "RA" appears on the left side of the display;
"RA" indicates that the REPEAT ALL function is active RA 02 01 : 09 ..
Press 1 x REPEAT to deactivate the function

7 PLAYER II operation as a D/A converter
7. 1 COAX-IN: coaxial digital input
Digital audio sources compatible to the S/P-DIF (75 ) standard can be connected to the coaxial digital
input COAX-IN. This input exclusively allows the processing of audio data up to 32 bit / 384 kHz. Source
devices can be CD drives or SAT receivers etc. The interface from a PC is possible provided a
corresponding soundcard with appropriate S/P-DIF output is present. The conversion of data from other,
special sound standards such as SACD or DVD audio is not possible.
Playback is possible for wave audio files (CD format) and also formats such as FLAC, ALAC, MP3 etc.
When an appropriate device is connected to the input, you can activate the input by selection the
referring input COAX-IN, IN-1, IN-2, IN-3 with the right rotary knob on the front panel. The display and
CD drive integrated in the PLAYER I are switched off. This reduces the power consumption, minimises
possible interference and so enhances the sound experience.
7. 2 USB-IN: asynchronous 32/384 digital input for hi-res audio and DSD files
CAUTION: The USB driver has to be installed before using the USB 32/384 interface of your
ACCUSTIC ARTS®device for the first time.

Source devices can be connected to the digital input USB-IN which transfers digital audio data. This
includes a PC, laptop, notebook or other portable music players. The development in this area is very
dynamic and the offer is continually changing. Therefore, it is not possible for us to provide a list of
devices compatible to this input. We recommend that you connect the respective source device to the
PLAYER I to test for compatibility.
The description of the USB socket integrated in the PLAYER I is USB 2.0 (type B). This socket can
therefore receive digital data, but is not able to transmit digital data. As a result, the PLAYER I cannot
control a different device via the USB socket, but can be considered solely as a D/A converter. Maximum
data rate is 32 bit / 384 kHz for hi-res audio and 2.8 MHz for DSD64.
Connection of a USB stick is not possible.
After installation of the correct USB driver, the connection of a source device, e.g. notebook, is made
easily according to the known plug and play principle. This means it is only necessary to connect both
devices with a USB cable (cable type: USB-A to USB-B) and the notebook will recognise the PLAYER I as an
external device. Playback is possible for wave audio files (CD format) and also formats such as FLAC,
ALAC, MP3 etc.
Now all you have to do is open your favourite music program and you can play the selected music tracks
via the PLAYER I.
8 Troubleshooting
8. 1 Malfunctions
Malfunctions are mostly caused by something simple which can be put right quickly.
In the next section some possible malfunctions are described together with their corrective action.
However, if it is not possible to remove the malfunction please contact your authorised dealer.
Malfunction The unit was switched on, the blue LED (ON) remains dark.
Cause 1 The mains cable is not properly connected.
Solution Check mains cable and push in firmly.
Cause 2 The mains fuse is damaged.
Solution Pull out all mains plugs and replace the corresponding fuse (see chapter 8. 2).

Malfunction Playback of the CD is bad or is continuously interrupted
Cause 1 Due to finger prints the CD is badly soiled, therefore the error correction has to interfere
all the time or the error on the CD cannot be corrected.
Solution Clean the CD carefully with a soft cloth
Cause 2 The CD is damaged due to scratches or other surface damage and therefore the error
correction has to interfere all the time or the error on the CD cannot be corrected.
Solution If the scratches on the CD are not too deep, then they can be removed by using a special
polish (ask your dealer!). If the scratches are deep, quite often a restoration is not
possible.
Malfunction After initialisation of a disc, the display shows: NO DISC .
Cause 1
Solution Open the tray and check the disc.
Cause 2 The disc is damaged due to big scratches.
Solution Remove the disc and ask your dealer if a restoration is possible.
Malfunction After initialisation of a disc the display shows: O0 00 : 00 .
Cause 1
Solution Open and close the tray again.
Cause 2 The disc is damaged due to big scratches.
Solution Remove the disc and ask your dealer if a restoration is possible.
For malfunctions which affect the reproduction relating to individual devices first of all make sure that all
connections are correctly and thoroughly made. In general, errors which arise are often a result of an
unsatisfactory or wrongly-made connection.
8. 2 Replacing damaged mains fuses
If a fuse is damaged only replace the fuse with original types having the same ampere value, the same
voltage endurance and the same time-lag. Never use fuses with other ampere classes or time-lag classes.
WARNING!
Pull out the mains plug!
Always disconnect the unit from the mains power before replacing a fuse.
To change the fuse 1please use a screwdriver suitable for the slot in the fuse holder. Press the
screwdriver lightly into the slot and gently lever the fuse holder (plastic cap) carefully out of the
respective socket. Now you can take out the fuse holder and replace the fuse.
For countries with 220- 240 V / 50- 60 Hz
please use the following fuse types:
For countries with 100-120 V / 50- 60 Hz
please use the following fuse types:
400 mA time lag
800 mA time lag

9Looking after your equipment
This unit does not require special treatment in excess of the usual care taken with high quality devices.
Clean the housing with a dry or slightly moistened cloth. Please do not use any aggressive detergents or
detergents which contain silicon.
The best way to clean the gold-plated or chromed front plate is with a mild non-aggressive fat-dissolving
detergent (e.g. glass cleaner). Use a very soft clean cloth and wipe the front plate with this without
exerting strong pressure. Never use abrasive agents or polishing agents with abrasive particles.
WARNING!
Do not place the unit in direct sunshine and avoid extreme changes in
temperature.
