Thecompactdisc player mustnot belocat-
edwhereit couldbeexposedto dripping or
splashingfluids.
Theventilation grids on the top of the
KAV-300cdneedto be unobstructedat all
timesduring operation. Donot place flam-
able material on top of or beneaththe
KAV-300cd.For installations inside cabi-
netry, makesure the KAV-300cdhas ade-
quateair circulation. Contactyour autho-
rized dealer,distributor, or Krell for more
information.
Beforeyouinstall the KAV-300cdinto your
system,reviewthe following guidelines to
choosethe location for the KAV-300cd.
Thiswill facilitate aclean,trouble-freeinstal-
lation. TheKAV-300cddoesnot require any
typeof specialrackor cabinetfor installation.
For the dimensionsof the KAV-3OOcd,see
Specifications onthe backcover.
1. Placethe KAV-300cdona firm level sur-
face, awayfrom excessiveheat, humi-
dity or.moisture.
2. Althoughwell shielded, the KAV-300cd
should not be placed near humsensi-
tive componentssuch as preamplifier
phonostages or turntables. Thepower
supply maycreate interference and
induce hum.
3. The KAV-300cdincorporates an ad-
vanced suspension system and does
not require additional masscouplingor
isolation. Youmayexperimentwith feet
or conesas long asthey are not perma-
nently affixed to the chassis.Anyunau-
thorizedmodificationsto the electronics
or chassiswill voidthewarranty.
IMPORTANT
Theuseof CDrings, mats,or other devices
attached to individual CDsis not recom-
mended.Thesedevices maycause prob-
lemswith the transport mechanism,result-
ing in erratic playbackand~orpoorsound.
AC POWERGUIDELINES
WARNING
Donot removeor bypassthe groundpin on
the end of the ACcord. This maycause
radio frequencyinterference (RFI) to
inducedinto your playbacksystem.
TheKAV-300cdhas superb regulation and
doesnot require a dedicated ACcircuit.
Avoidconnectionsthroughextensioncords
or multiple ACadapters.Highquality 15amp
groundedACstrips are acceptable. High
quality ACline conditionersor filters canbe
used if they are groundedand meet or
exceedthe unit’s powersupplyrating of 100
VA.

Connectingthe KAV-300cd
to YourSystem
WARNING
Whenmakingconnections to this compo-
nent or any other, makesure the power
amplifieris off andthepreamplifieris in the
muteor stand-bymode.Makesure all cable
terminationsareof thehighestquality, free
fromfrayedends,shortcircuits, or coldsolder
joints.
1. Plug the KAV-300cdinto a standard
wall ACreceptacle. Thestand-by LED
will illuminate.
2. Connectthe KAV-300cdoutput (6) to the
appropriatepreamplifierinput.
3. Pushthe powerbutton (2) on the front
panel or the pwrkeyontheremotecon-
trol. Toactivate theKAV-L300cdfromthe
remote, first press the CDkey on the
remote, then press the red pwr key.
Whenthe power LEDon the compact
disc player illuminates, the KAV-300cd
is readyfor operation.
TheKAV-300cdis equippedwith two ana-
log output configurations: Single-endedvia
RCAconnectors, and balanced via XLR
connectors. Krell recommendsthe use of
balancedinterconnects.Balancedintercon-
nectsnot only havethe ability to minimize
sonic loss but also have immunity to
inducednoise, especiallyfor installations
usinglong cablelengths. Balancedconnec-
tions have 6dB moregain than single-
endedconnections.Whenlevel matchingis
critical, keepthis specificationin mind.

commandsfrom various remote devices,
facilitating custominstallations. Thisallows
the KAV-300cdto be controlled via hard-

Thisinput accepts12volt poweron/off sig-
nals from other Krell components,as well
as other devicesthat incorporatea 12volt
poweron/off trigger output. Thisallowsfor
remoteturn on/off of the KAV-300cdwith
the poweractivation of anotherKrell com-
ponentas well as other componentsused
in acustominstallation.

Front Panel and Remote
Control Operation
The KAV-300cdremote control provides
completeCDtransport functions aswell as
Krell preamplifier and poweramplifier
remotefunctions. Adescription of the keys
andtheir functionsis providedbelow.
Note
Notall keyson the remotecontrol function
with the KAV-3OOcd.Press the CDkey on
the remote to access CDcommands.
13 Open
Pressonceto openthe drawer.Insert a CD,
label side up, into the drawer.Pressopen
again. After a momentarypause(while the
CD’scontentsare beingscanned),the total
numberof tracks andthe total playingtime
appearin the display window(1).
14 Play
Toactivate playbackfromthe beginningof
the CD,press play after inserting the CD
into the drawer.Thedrawerwill close and
playbackwill beginfromthefirst track. If the
CDis loaded andthe disc contents have
beenscanned,pressplay onthe front panel
(5) or remotecontrol.Thediscwill start play-
ing fromtrack 1 or the beginningof a pro-
grammedtrack sequence. Whenan HDCD
~
encodedCDis played, the HDCD
~ LED(3)
illuminates, indicating that HDCD
~ decoding
is functioning.

programcontinuously.Presstwice to repeat
thecurrenttrack continuously.Pressagainto
cancel this function. Whenselecting the
desiredrepeatfunction, presstherepeatkey
onceandREPEATwill appearin the display
window(1). Pressrepeat twice andREPEAT
andSINGLEwill appearin the display win-
dow.

Usethis keyto create a loop betweentwo
pre-determinedpoints within a single track
or sequentialtracks. Tocreatean NBloop,
start playof a track. Whenyouhearthe part
that youwantas the beginningof the loop,
pressA/Bto insert thestart position. Press
A/Bagainto insert the finish position. NB
will automaticallybeginandcontinueindef-
initely. TodeletetheA/Bprogram,pressA/B
againor pressthe stopkey(15).
23 Direct NumberAccessKeypad
(remotecontrol only)
Thedirect numberaccess keypadmakes
track selection quick andeasy. Whenusing
thedirect trackaccessfunction, theselected
track will beginplayimmediatelyafter it is
selected. If the track youwantto play is
numbered1-9, press the key that corre-
spondsto the track. Usethe +10key to

accesstracks numbered10 or higher. The
+10keyselects a track in incrementsof 10.
EXAMPLE:To access track 8, press the
number8 key once. To access track 10,
press the +10 key once and the 0 key
once.Toaccesstrack 24, pressthe + 10key
twice andpressthe 4 keyonce.
24 Display(remotecontrol only)
Usethis keyto cyclethe displaywindow(1)
betweenelapsedtime of the track currently
playing,timeremainingin thecurrenttrack,
andtotal remainingtime of thedisc or pro-
gram.Pressthe CDkey on the remotecon-
trol, then press the modekey until the
desired information appearsin the display
window.
25 Dim(remotecontrol only)
Usethis keyto turn the display window(1)
onandoff. Pressthe CDkey onthe remote
control, thenpressthedimkeyuntil thedis-
play windowreachesthe desiredposition.
TRACK PROGRAMMING
26Prog(remotecontrol only)
Usethis keyto select the tracks youwould
like to hear,in theorderin which.youwould
like to hearthem.This methodof program-
mingis short termandwill beclearedwhen
youpressthe stop key (15) twice. Amaxi-
mumof twenty tracks maybe stored in a
programsequence.
27Clr (Clear)(remotecontrol only)
Usethis keyto deletethe last entryselect-
ed in a programmedsequence.Track for-
ward,track back,repeat,andpausefunction
normally within a programmedsequence.

Track forward, track back, repeat, and
pausefunction normally within a pro-
grammedsequence.
HOW TO WRITE A PROGRAM
1. Press the program key (26)
theKAV-300cd remote control. PRO-
GRAMwill appearin the display window
(1).
Keyin the desired track sequenceusing
the numerickeypad(23). Thenumber
tracksandtotal playingtimeof the pro-
grammedsequencewill appear in the
display window(1). Tracknumberswill
appearin the display astheyare stored
within a programmedsequence.
Pressthe playkey(14) to beginplayback
of the programmedsequence.
Pressthe stop key (15) onceto stop
playback(but not eraseprogram).Press
stop twice to erase a programmed
sequence.
Note
Whenthe CDis in stand-by modethe pro-
grammedsequenceis erased.

TRACKFORWARDANDBACK
1. Press the program key (26) on the
KAV-300cdremote control. PROGRAM
will appearin the displaywindow(1).
2. Press the track forward key (17)
select a track. Keyin the desiredtrack
sequenceusingthe numerickeypad(23).
Thenumberof tracks andtotal playing
time of the programmedsequencewill
appearin the display window(1).Track
numberswill appearin the display as
they are stored within a programmed
sequence.
EXAMPLE:Press track forward two times
to getbackto track2.

BATTERYINSTALLATION
AND REMOVAL
NOTE:Batteries should be replaced when
functions from the remotecontrol become
intermittent. TheKAV-3OOcdremoteuses
twoAAAsize 1.5 volt batteries.
1. Removethe back panel to exposethe
batteries.
2. Removethe old batteries.
3. Install the newbatteries, following the
battery position diagramonthe plastic
batteryreceptacle.
4. Re-install the backplate.
5. Checkto makesure the remotecontrol is
functioningproperly.

TheKAV-300cdhasa limitedandtransferablewarrantyof
fiveyearsfor partsandlaboroncircuitryandthreeyearsfor
partsandlaboronall mechanicalcomponents.Shouldthis
productfail toperformat anytimeduringthewarranty,Krell
will repairit atnocostto theowner,exceptassetforthin
this warranty.
Thiswarrantydoesnot applyto damagecausedbyactsof
Godor nature.
Thewarrantydescribedonthis pageshallbein lieu of any
otherwarranty,expressorimplied,including,butnotlimited
to, anyimpliedwarrantyof merchantabilityor fitnessfor a
particularpurpose.Therearenowarrantieswhichexceed
beyondthosedescribedin this document.If this product
doesnotperformaswarrantedherein,theowneris sole
remedyshallberepair.In noeventwill Krellbeliablefor
incidentalorconsequentialdamagesarisingfrompurchase,
use,orinability tousethisproduct,evenif Krellhasbeen

warrantychanged.Whenthewarrantyis transferred,the
secondownerassumestheremainderof the original war-
rantyperiod.
ThewarrantyforKrellproductsis validonlyin thecountryto
whichtheywereoriginallyshipped,throughtheauthorized
Krelldistributorfor thatcountry,andat thefactory.There
mayberestrictions onor changesto Krell’s warranty
becauseof regulationswithina specificcountry.Please
checkwithyourdistributorfor acompleteunderstandingof

Freightto the factoryis yourresponsibility.Second-day
returnfreightwithintheUnitedStates(U.S.A.)is included
thewarranty.ifyouhavepurchasedyourKrell productout-
sidetheU.S.A.andwishto haveit servicedat thefactory,
all freight andassociatedchargesto thefactoryareyour
responsibility.Krellwill payretumfreightto theU.S.A.-
basedfreight forwarderof yourchoice.Freightandother

Noexpressedor impliedwarrantyis madefor anyKrell
productdamagedbyaccident,abuse,misuse,naturalor

Anyunauthorizedvoltageconversion,disassembly,
componentreplacement,perforation of chassis,
updates,or modificationsperformedto the unit will
voidthewarranty.
Theoperatingvoltageof this unit is determinedbythefac-
tory andcanonlybechangedbyanauthorizedKrell dis-
tributoror atthefactory.Thevoltagefor thisproductin the
U.S.A.cannotbechangeduntil six monthsfromtheoriginal

In theeventthatKrell receivesaproductfor warrantyser-
vicethathasbeenmodifiedin anywaywithoutKrellautho-
