ranty repairs, customers are billed according to the cost of replacement materials,
service time, and freight. Please consult your dealer for more details.
If you believe your product to be defective, follow the steps below.
1.
Collect all the information about the problem encountered. (For example, CPU
speed, Advantech products used, other hardware and software used, etc.) Note
anything abnormal and list any onscreen messages displayed when the prob-
lem occurs.
2.
Call your dealer and describe the problem. Have the manual, product, andany
helpful information to hand when you call.
3.
If your product is diagnosed as defective, obtain a return merchandiseauthori-
zation (RMA) number from your dealer. This allows us to process your return
more quickly.
4.
Carefully pack the defective product, a completed Repair and Replacement
Order Card, and a proof of purchase date (such as a photocopy of your sales
receipt) in a shippable container. Products returned without a proof of purchase
date are not eligible for warranty service.
5.
Write the RMA number clearly on the outside of the package, then ship itpre-
paid to your dealer.

1.
INTRODUCTION
AVAS-212 is an IP network-based system to distribute and switch video,
audio, and control signals (like USB for mouse and keyboard and
RS232). The system has been
designed to deliver video with high
quality (including uncompressed, lossless
distribution) and low latency
for optimal hand-eye coordination in critical applications.

The AVAS-212 system and its components have CE approval and
comply with
IEC60601-1-2. Installers, system integrators, and OEMs
have to mitigate system and application specific risks.
For critical systems, installers and system integrators are advised to
consider arranging
additional risk control measures, like external
back-up system(s).
3.1
Application Notes
When integrating a product like AVAS-212 into safety critical
systems, the risks
associated withfailuresinthe AVAS-212network
havetobeconsidered. Although the systemintegratorsandOEMsare
responsibleforoverallsystemsafety(basedontheir expertiseofthe
applicationdomainandoftheoverallsystemarchitecture),ananalysis
has been performed to study the safety impact of AVAS-212 in
safety critical
applications.Thefollowingapplicationnotesarebasedon
theoutcomeofthisanalysis:
When AVAS-212 is used in safety critical applications, address the risks associated with
failure of video and audio delivery due to, for instance, failures of network equipment in your risk
analysis. In these cases, consider applying fail-safe, redundant video or audio
connections in parallel
to the AVAS-212 video network as a risk control measure.
AVAS-212 can transfer unprocessed video without compression.
Scaling and conversions will be applied when the video input properties (resolution, frame
rate or
color scale) are not equal to the requested video output properties.
For applications in which this type of processing can result in hazardous situations due to,
for instance,
image artefacts or loss of information, using the DirectDisplay mode or
carefully matching video input
and video output properties is recommended to assure video
transfer without any processing.

To avoid hazardous situations caused by mixing up video sources, adding clear visual
markers to the
video input streams is recommended.

Medical Installations
For integration into an IEC60601-1-compliant Medical Electrical System,
the AVAS-212 NDcoders have been tested and are compliant with IEC
60601-1-2:2007 in combination
with the power supply delivered. This
power supply has a low leakage current (<50uA@264VAC) and is
double isolated (MOOP&MOPP).
The system integrators (RESPONSIBLE ORGANIZATIONS) are reminded
that the assembly of
ME SYSTEMS and modifications during the
actual service life must be checked for
compliance with the
requirements of IEC 60601-1. The standard gives more information
about the general safety requirements for ME systems.

SYSTEM COMPONENTS
The AVAS-212 system is structured as shown in Figure 1. Video
sources and video
destinations (typically displays) are connected to
AVAS-212 interface modules. These
interface modules are called

and Decoding
functionality).

Use only a moist, soft, and lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cloths, towels, paper towels, and similar
items that might cause damage to the aluminum housing. Ensure that no moisture
enters any
opening and only use mild cleaning agents.
The enclosure of AVAS-212 is made of aluminum that can help heat dissipation, since the device does
not have cooling fans. Please provide regular maintenance
to remove any dirt or dust on the enclosure
that can reduce the cooling capacity of the enclosure.

System and Installation Warnings and Precautions
DO NOT modify the AVAS-212 equipment in any way without obtaining prior written
permission from Advantech Co., Ltd Any unauthorized modification will void product
warranty;
product safety cannot be assured in this case.
DO NOT use the AVAS-212 NDcoders with a different power supply unit; only use the power
supply
unit delivered with the products.
The AVAS-212 NDcoders have been tested for EMC and safety in combination with the power
supply unit
that is delivered with the equipment.
DO NOT open the AVAS-212 NDcoders.
The AVAS-212 NDcoders contains no operator serviceable parts. Service and repair must be
carried out
by trained and certified personnel only.
CAUTION!
The enclosure of the AVAS-212 NDcoders is used to cool the device. Please ensure that sufficient
space is available around the AVAS-212 NDcoders for heat convection. Do not
stack the AVAS-
212 NDcoders.
The mains coupler is used as “disconnect device”, and must be available as such, or the socket
outlet must be installed near the equipment and must be easily accessible, or an appropriate
external disconnect device must be externally added in the installation.
Always comply with local and national wiring rules.
The AVAS-2

CAUTION!
When a firmware version is installed on an NDcoder that is not compatible with the AVAS-212 hardware
version, the NDcoder will not start up. Installing an incorrect firmware version may damage the hardware of
the NDcoder. After installing an incorrect version, installing a new
version (to correct the installation) may
no longer be possible. In these situations the NDcoders have to be returned for repair.
Information about software and hardware compatibility and about updating the NDcoder
firmware can be
found in the
AVAS-212
–
