Self Contained Unit mini-kool
The mini-kool SSIG-05 is the “Worlds Smallest” full featured marine
air conditioning unit. It includes all of the features of the mini-kool
line such as reverse cycle and electronic control and operates at only
3.5 amps. At less than 1 cubic foot in overall volume, it requires 32%
less installation space than its nearest competitor. This design features
a compact and very quiet blower with selectable vertical or horizontal
outlet. Controls plug in to the factory installed leads. Complete
installation kits are available.
As the technology leader and the oldest name in the marine air conditioning industry, we have
accepted the challenge of creating a new design that is not only smaller than the units previously
available, but more importantly, more efficient than anything in it’s class. It’s called mini-kool and
it’s built by the company whose name is synonymous with high quality and durability...Aqua-Air!

Standard units are 115 V, 50/60Hz and 230V, 50/60Hz, and operate at rated capacities at 60 Hz. Standard unit capacity
is reduced by 17% when operated at 50 Hz. For full capacity units at 50Hz, order ‘CK’ models.

Themini-kool unitiscommonlyusedinnewinstallations
however it is very well suited to the replacement or
retrofitting of an older, less efficient or obsolete unit, or as
an upgrade. This self contained unit is a refrigerant to air
heat exchanger that has all the major components
mounted on one chassis. It is installed in the area of the
boat that is to be heated or cooled.
Basic refrigeration theory dictates that opposite heat
exchanges occurring in close proximity have a canceling
effect, which translates to efficiency loss. True to this
principle, the mini-kool achieves maximum efficiency
through the application of a correctly sized seawater
condenser located in the proper orientation to the unit’s
evaporator coil. By choosing mini-kool, you know you’re
getting the highest efficiency available!

All cooling capacities shown below are based upon a standard installation. Maximum outside
temperature is 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius) with a minimum interior cabin temperature of
72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius). If you desire any other temperatures than these use the
Aqua-Air Quick-Calc program. You can download this free program by clicking here.
To determine the correct Self Contained Unit for your boat complete the following steps:
Determining the Correct
Self Contained Unit Size for
Your Boat
On the chart below find the appropriate Area Type listed and then scan to the right until you find the
Volume of Area range that would include the volume of your area. Click on the correct Volume of
Area and the information for the correct self contained unit will appear.
Example: A Mid Deck ( B ) area that has a volume of 520 ft3. The correct unit capacity for this area is
the 10,000 BTU/H unit. Clicking on the range 471 - 670 in the "Mid Deck" row will now display all of
the information for the 10,000 BTU/H Self Contained Unit.
Example: A Pilothouse area that has a volume of 13.7 m3. The correct unit capacity for this area is
the 12,000 BTU/H unit. Clicking on the range 12.0 - 14.2 in the "Pilothouse" row will now display all of
the information for the 12,000 BTU/H Self Contained Unit.
Determine the overall Volume of Area that you want to cool. To calculate the volume of the area,
multiply the length of the room by the width and then by the height.
Example: If the room is 15 feet long, 10 feet wide and 7 feet high, the volume of the room is 1050 ft3
(15 x 10 x 7 = 1050 ft3 ). If a room is narrower at one end than the other, take the average of the
room.
Example: A stateroom is 16 feet wide at one end and 12 feet wide at the other end. The average
width is 14 feet ( [16 + 12] / 2 ).
Pick the Area Type that most closely matches one of the five areas shown in the charts below. The
Pilothouse and Galley areas are listed separately because these are usually areas with unusually
high heat loads. Shown below are examples on some common boat types.

AQUA-AIR MANUFACTURING, division of the James D. Nall Co., Inc.

Pump relays are used when more than
one self contained, condensing or chiller
units are supported by a single seawater
pump. Onetriggeringcircuitisneededfor
each unit to be supplied by the pump.
The AQP2R pump relay utilizes an open
type relay to provide power to the pump
from two individual units. The AQP2RS
and AQP6R are solid state relays,
capable of accepting up to two and six
different inputs to pre-installed trigger
circuits.
The AQP6RC, D & E are used when the
amperage of the pump to be controlled
exceeds the amperage carrying capacity of the controller you are using or when controlling 3
phase pumps. Each will accept as many as 6 triggering inputs in either 100-120/1/50-60 or 200-
240/1/50-60 power ranges.
