Warranty and Limited Liability
This product is sold with a limited warranty and specific remedies are available to the original purchaser in the event
the product fails to conform to the limited warranty. Manufacturer’s liability may be further limited in accordance with

1. Introduction
Dear Customer,
Congratulations on the purchase of your new ARCHOS DEx DVD-RW 2 writer. This rewritable DVD-RW
drive will allow you to read and write a number of standard DVD and CD formats, including the formats that
are playable on most home entertainment system’s DVD or CD Player. With your DEx DVD-RW 2 drive, we
have bundled the latest audio and video creation software from the leading CD burning software company
Roxio. This software will allow you to be creative in ways that you never thought of before. We are sure you
will enjoy creating CDs and DVDs with this winning combination of Roxio software and ARCHOS DVD
hardware.

This is a USB 2.0 external device which features PLUG AND PLAY capability. This means that your drive
can be connected and disconnected while the computer is running. Computers equipped with USB 2.0 ports
automatically recognize and install USB 2.0 peripherals that are physically connected to them.

2.1Connecting the DEx DVD-RW 2
• Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB connector on back of the DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Plug AC/DC power adapter into an electrical outlet.
• Plug the other end of the cable into the Power Socket on back of your DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Before you connect the other end of the USB cable into your computer, make sure it is on and running.
You should have a USB 2.0 port to connect to. If you do not have a USB 2.0 port, you can purchase a
four port USB 2.0 card from ARCHOS or at your local computer retailer. A USB 1.1 port may work but it
will be extremely slow. DVD type data are very large and thus the throughput of USB 2.0 is required to
operate satisfactorily.
2.2 Disconnecting the DEx DVD-RW 2
• Before unplugging the USB cable from the computer, you must tell the computer that you need to
remove it. In the bottom right corner of the screen in the tray, you will see a hard disk icon with a green
arrow. Right click on this icon and then select, “Safely Remove”.
• Within a few seconds, a message will appear on the screen indicating that you can remove the drive.
Failure to do this before disconnecting the DVD drive may cause Windows to crash.

3. Installing the USB Driver
3.1Windows ME, Windows 2000 & Windows XP users
No driver needed.
Note: the USB 2.0 mass storage driver is already available on these versions of the Windows operating
system. When you plug in the USB cable to your computer, it will ask you if you would like to install the driver
for the mass storage device. Just click on “OK” and follow the on screen instructions. After this, your DEx-
DVD-RW is ready for use.
3.2 Windows 98 SE users
Turn on your computer and let Windows 98SE boot up. Now insert the USB cable into an open USB 2.0 port
on your computer. Follow the steps listed below to install the software driver.
This Wizard searches for new drivers for:
ARCHOS USB 2.0.
Click Next.
Select Search for the best driver for
your device (Recommended).
Click Next.
Check Floppy disk drives box, and
uncheck all other boxes.
Insert the DEx DVD-RW 2 driver diskette
into the floppy drive and then click Next.

Window will display the name of the
driver.
Click Next.
The driver is now being loaded into the
computer. Wait patiently, this may take a
minute or so.
The driver for your DEx DVD-RW 2 is
now installed. To close the Wizard, click
Finish.

4. Installing Easy CD Creator 5 Basic
Roxio™ Easy CD Creator includes the following:
Easy CD Creator:
Make music CDs from other CDs, MP3, and more. Make data CDs and DVDs for sharing and archiving data
in the most compatible format.
DirectCD:
Make data discs that allow you to write directly to a CD-Recordable, CD-ReWritable, or DVD-Recordable disc
just like you would write files to a floppy disk or removable drive.
Disc Copier:
Make backup copies of your music and data discs.
To install the software, put the CD into the CD drive. If it does not start-up automatically and ask you to install
it, open the CD in the Explorer, and start the installation by launching the file setup.exe.
You will be asked to choose a language for installation.
Follow the on-screen instructions. After the
installation, you will be asked to restart your
computer. If you have questions about installing
or using Easy CD Creator Basic, contact
Roxio™ technical support.

Roxio™VideoWave Movie Creator includes the following:
Easy Capture to capture video from a camcorder or TV.
CineMagic to make short video clips with music.
StoryBuilder to create a complete movie with transitions and titles.
StoryLine Editor to edit and enhance an existing movie.
VideoCD/DVD Maker to burn a movie or data to CD or DVD.
Tutorial to teach you how to use VideoWave Movie Creator.
To install the software, put the CD into the CD drive. If it does not start-up automatically and ask you to install
it, open the CD in the Explorer, and start the installation by launching the file setup.exe.

2. Connexion et déconnexion du matériel

2.1Connexion du DEx DVD-RW 2
• Connectez une extrémité du câble USB au port situé à l’arrière du DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Branchez l’adaptateur d’alimentation CA/CC à une prise électrique.
• Branchez l’autre extrémité du câble à la prise d’alimentation située à l’arrière de votre DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Avant même de connecter l’autre embout du câble USB à votre ordinateur, assurez-vous qu’il est bien
branché et allumé. Vous devriez disposer d’un port USB 2.0 sur lequel le brancher. Si ce n’est pas le
cas, vous pouvez faire l’acquisition d’une carte USB 2.0 à quatre ports en vous adressant directement à

2.2 Déconnexion du DEx DVD-RW 2
• Avant de débrancher le câble USB de votre ordinateur, vous devez en avertir l’ordinateur. Dans le coin
en bas à droite de la barre des tâches, vous verrez un icône comportant une flèche verte. A l’aide du
bouton droit de votre souris, cliquez sur cet icône et sélectionnez « Safely Remove » (Ejecter en toute
sécurité).
• Après quelques secondes, un message apparaîtra à l’écran pour vous indiquer que vous pouvez
éjecter le lecteur. Ne pas respecter cette procédure de déconnexion peut entraîner le blocage de
Windows.

3. Installation du pilote USB
3.1Utilisateurs de Windows ME, Windows 2000 et Windows XP
Aucun pilote nécessaire.
Remarque : le pilote pour périphériques de stockage de masse USB 2.0 est déjà disponible sur ces versions
du système d’exploitation Windows. Lorsque vous branchez le câble USB à votre ordinateur, il vous
demandera si vous souhaitez installer le pilote pour ce périphérique de stockage de masse. Cliquez
simplement sur « OK » et suivez les instructions affichées à l’écran. Une fois cette opération terminée, votre
DEx-DVD-RW est prêt à l’emploi.
3.2 Utilisateurs Windows 98 SE :
Allumez votre ordinateur et laissez Windows 98 SE se lancer. Ensuite, branchez le câble USB sur un port
USB 2.0 libre de votre ordinateur. Suivez les étapes indiquées ci-dessous afin d’installer le pilote.
L’assistant recherche les nouveaux
pilotes pour : ARCHOS USB 2.0.
Cliquez sur Next (Suivant).
Sélectionnez Search for the best driver
for your device (Recommended)

Brenner ermöglicht Ihnen das Brennen von DVD-Rs und DVD-RWs (wiederbeschreibbaren DVDs) sowie das
Lesen einer Vielzahl standardmäßiger DVD- und CD-Formate einschließlich der Formate, die von
standardmäßigen DVD- oder CD-Spielern wiedergegeben werden können. Mit Ihrem DEx DVD-RW 2 wird

Dieses Gerät verfügt über eine Schnittstelle nach der Norm USB 2.0 und bietet hundertprozentiges PnP

2. Anschließen und Abtrennen der Hardware

2.1Anschließen des DEx DVD-RW 2
• Verbinden Sie ein Ende des USB-Kabels mit der USB-Buchse an der Rückseite des DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Verbinden Sie den Netzstecker des Ladenetzteils mit dem Wechselstromnetz.
• Verbinden Sie das Gleichstromkabel des Ladenetzteils mit der hierfür vorgesehenen Buchse an der
Rückseite des DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Bevor das andere Ende des USB-Kabels mit dem Computer verbunden werden darf, muss der
Computer eingeschaltet und Windows gestartet werden. Der Computer muss mit einer USB-2.0-
Schnittstelle ausgerüstet sein. Wenn Ihr Computer nicht über einen USB-2.0-Anschluss verfügt, können
Sie von ARCHOS oder Ihrem zuständigen Händler eine Erweiterungssteckkarte mit 4 USB-2.0-
Anschlüssen kaufen. Sie können auch einen USB-1.1-Anschluss verwenden, der jedoch erheblich
langsamer als ein USB-2.0-Anschluss ist. DVDs können sehr große Datenmengen enthalten, sodass
die hohe Datenübertragungsgeschwindigkeit eines USB-2.0-Anschlusses erforderlich ist, um beim
Brennen keine extrem langen Wartezeiten in Kauf nehmen zu müssen.
2.2 Abtrennen des DEx DVD-RW 2
• Bevor Sie das USB-Kabel von Ihrem Computer abtrennen, müssen Sie dies Windows mitteilen. In der
unteren rechten Ecke der Taskleiste befindet sich ein Festplattensymbol mit einem grünen Pfeil. Klicken
Sie mit der rechten Maustaste auf dieses Symbol und dann auf "Sicher entfernen".
• Nach einigen Sekunden erscheint ein Dialogfeld mit einer Meldung, wodurch Sie dazu aufgefordert
werden, das USB-Kabel abzuziehen. Wenn Sie den DEx DVD-RW 2 nicht vor dem Abtrennen des
USB-Kabels von Windows abmelden, kann dieses abstürzen.

3. Installieren des USB-Treibers
3.1Windows ME, Windows 2000 und Windows XP
Diese Windows-Versionen benötigen keinen eigenen USB-Treiber.
ANMERKUNG: Der USB-2.0-Treiber für Massenspeichereinheiten wurde bereits mit dieser Version von
Windows installiert. Wenn Sie das USB-Kabel mit Ihrem Computer verbinden, werden Sie gefragt, ob Sie den
Treiber für USB-Massenspeichereinheiten installieren wollen. Klicken Sie in diesem Fall auf "OK" und gehen
Sie gemäß den auf dem Bildschirm erscheinenden Anweisungen vor. Ihr DEx-DVD-RW ist anschließend
betriebsbereit.
3.2 Windows 98 SE:
Schalten Sie Ihren Computer ein und lassen Sie Windows 98 SE hochfahren. Verbinden Sie das eine Ende
des USB-Kabels mit einem freien USB-2.0-Anschluss Ihres Computers. Installieren Sie den USB-Treiber wie
nachstehend beschrieben.
Der Hardware-Assistent sucht nach
neuen Treibern für: ARCHOS USB 2.0.
Klicken Sie auf Weiter.
Wählen Sie Nach dem besten Treiber
für das Gerät suchen (empfohlen).
Klicken Sie auf Weiter.

Legen Sie die Diskette mit der

können Sie Daten-CDs und -DVDs im kompatibelsten Format für Archivierungszwecke usw. brennen.

Hiermit können Sie Datenträger direkt auf CD-Rs, CD-RWs und DVD-Rs brennen. Das ist so einfach wie das
Kopieren von Dateien auf eine Diskette oder eine Festwechselplatte.

Enhorabuena por la compra de su nueva regrabadora DEx DVD-RW de ARCHOS. Con esta unidad DVD-
RW podrá reproducir y escribir en varios tipos de formato estándar DVD y CD, incluidos los formatos
compatibles con la mayoría de sistemas caseros de reproducción DVD y CD. Junto con la unidad DEx DVD-
RW 2, se incluye lo último en software de creación audio y vídeo de Roxio, empresa líder en el desarrollo de
software de grabación de CDs. Este software le abrirá todo un mundo de posibilidades creativas, como
nunca antes había imaginado. Estamos convencidos de que sabrá sacarle el mejor partido a la creación de

2.1Conexión del DEx DVD-RW 2
• Conecte un extremo del cable USB al conector USB en la parte posterior del DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Enchufe el adaptador de corriente CA/CD a la toma de pared.
• Enchufe el otro extremo del cable al Conector de Alimentación en la parte posterior del DEx DVD-RW 2.
• Antes de conectar el otro extremo del cable USB al ordenador, compruebe que este último esté
encendido y funcionando. El ordenador deberá disponer de un puerto USB 2.0. De no ser así, puede
comprar una tarjeta USB 2.0 de cuatro puertos en ARCHOS o en su distribuidor de informática más
cercano. También puede utilizar un puerto USB 1.1, aunque su funcionamiento es mucho más lento.
Los datos de tipo DVD son de gran tamaño, por lo que la velocidad de transmisión del USB 2.0 resulta
imprescindible para que la regrabadora funcione correctamente.
2.2 Desconexión del DEx DVD-RW 2
• Antes de desenchufar el cable USB del ordenador, deberá indicar al sistema operativo su intención de
retirar el cable. En la bandeja situada en la esquina inferior derecha de la pantalla, se encuentra un
icono de disco duro con una flecha verde. Haga clic con el botón derecho en este icono y luego
seleccione “Safely Remove”.
• En unos pocos segundos, aparecerá un mensaje en pantalla indicando que ya puede retirar la unidad.
De no seguir estos pasos para la desconexión de la unidad DVD, puede provocar un bloqueo en el
sistema de Windows.

3. Instalación del Controlador USB
3.1Usuarios de Windows ME, Windows 2000 y Windows XP
El controlador no es necesario.
Nota: En dichas versiones del sistema operativo de Windows, el controlador de almacenamiento masivo
USB 2.0 ya viene instalado. Al enchufar el cable USB al ordenador, éste le preguntará si desea instalar el
controlador para dispositivos de almacenamiento masivo. Haga clic en “Aceptar” y siga las instrucciones en
pantalla. Una vez hecho esto, ya podrá utilizar su DEx-DVD-RW.
3.2 Usuarios de Windows 98 SE :
Encienda el ordenador y espere hasta que Windows 98SE esté completamente operativo. Inserte el cable
USB a un puerto USB 2.0 libre del ordenador. Siga las etapas que se indican a continuación para instalar el
controlador del software.
Este asistente busca nuevos
controladores para: ARCHOS USB 2.0.
