INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This unit is designed for installation in cars, trucks, and vans with an existing radio opening. In many cases, a
specialinstallationkitwillberequiredtomounttheradiotothedashboard. Thesekitsareavailableatelectronics
supply stores and car stereo specialist shops. Always check the kit application before purchasing to make sure the
kitworks with yourvehicle. If youneed a kitbut cannot findit available, callour toll-free “HELP”line at 1-800-645-4994.
UNIVERSAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE USING MOUNTING SLEEVE
1. Open, fold down and remove the detachable front panel, if it is attached to the chassis, by grasping the
groovedcenterportion andpullingthepanelassemblystraightout.Slidethemountingsleeveoff of thechassis.
If it is locked into position, use the removal tools (supplied) to disengage it.
2. Checkthedashboardopeningsizebyslidingthemountingsleeveintoit. Iftheopeningisnotlargeenough,carefully
cut or file as necessary until the sleeve easily slides into the opening. Do not force the sleeve into the opening
or cause it to bend or bow. Check that there will be sufficient space behind the dashboard for the radio chassis.
3. Locate the series of bend tabs along the top, bottom, and sides of the mounting sleeve. With the sleeve
fully inserted into the dashboard opening, bend as many of the tabs outward as necessary so that the
sleeve is firmly secured to the dashboard.
4. Place the radio in front of the dashboard opening so that the wiring can be brought through the mounting
sleeve. Follow the wiring diagram carefully and make certain all connections of the wiring harness are
secureand insulatedwith wire nutsor electricaltape toinsure properoperation ofthe unit. Aftercompleting
the wiring connections, turn the unit on to confirm operation (ignition switch must be “on”). If unit does not
operate, re-check all wiring until problem is corrected.
NOTE: AdjustAM antenna trimmerNOW. Referto labelon right sideof chassis foradjustment instructions.
Onceproperoperationis achieved,turnofftheignitionswitchandproceedwithfinalmounting ofthechassis.
5. Carefully slide the radio into the mounting sleeve making sure it is right-side-up until it is fully seated and
the spring clips lock it into place.
6. Attach one end of the perforated support strap (supplied) to the screw stud on the rear of the chassis using
the hex nut provided. Fasten the other end of the perforated strap to a secure part of the dashboard either
above or below the radio using the screw provided. Bend the strap to position it as necessary.
CAUTION: The rear of the radio must be supported with the strap to prevent damage to the dashboard
from the weight of the radio or improper operation due to vibration.
7. Test radio operation by referring to the Operating Instructions.
INSTALLATION USING KITS
1. If your vehicle requires the use of an installation kit to mount this radio, follow the instructions included with
the installation kit to attach the radio to the mounting plate supplied with the kit.
2. Wire and test the radio as described in Step 4 above.
3. Install the radio/mounting plate assembly to the sub-dashboard according to the instructions of the installation kit.
4. Attach the support strap to the radio and dashboard as described in Step 6 above.
5. Replace the dashboard trim panel.
ISO INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
This unit has threaded holes in the chassis side panels which may be used with the original factory mounting
brackets of some Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Hyundai and Honda vehicles to mount the radio to the
dashboard. Please consult with your local car stereo specialist shop for assistance on this type of installation.
1. Remove the existing factory radio from its dashboard or center console mounting. Save all hardware and
brackets as they will be used to mount the new radio.
2. Carefully un-snap the plastic frame from the front of the new radio chassis. Remove and discard the frame.
3. Remove the factory mounting brackets and hardware from the existing radio and attach them to the new radio.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXCEED M5 X 6 MM MAXIMUM SCREW SIZE.
LONGER SCREWS MAY TOUCH AND DAMAGE COMPONENTS INSIDE THE CHASSIS.
4. Wire the new radio to the vehicle as per step 4 above.
5. Mount the new radio assembly to the dashboard or center console using the reverse procedure of step 1.

If the ignition switch is “on”,pressthePWR
button to turn the unit on or off.
2VOLUME/LEVEL CONTROL
(VOL UP/DN)
To increase the volume level, rotate the
AUDIO ADJUST control clockwise in the
UPdirection.Thevolumewillincreaseand
the level will be shown on the display
panel from a minimum of VOL 0 to a
maximum of VOL 63. To decrease the
volume level, rotate the AUDIO ADJUST
control counter-clockwise in the DN
direction.Thedisplaywillautomaticallyreturn
tothenormalindication5secondsafterthe
last volume adjustment or when another
functionisactivated. TheAUDIOADJUST
control is also used in conjunction with the
Select (SEL) button 3to adjust the bass,
treble, balance and fader levels as
described in 4, 5, 6and 7.
3SELECT BUTTON (SEL)
This button (AUDIO SELECT) is used to
select the audio function (volume, bass,
treble, balance, or fade) to be adjusted
using the AUDIO ADJUST 2 control
(VOLUP/DN). PressingtheSelectbutton
once will access the volume adjustment
whereinthevolumelevelis setaccordingly.
PressingtheSelectbuttontwicewillaccess
the bass adjustment (BAS will appear on
the display panel). Pressing the button
additional times will access the treble
adjustment (TRE on the display), balance
(BAL), or fader (FAd). The display will
automaticallyreturntothenormalindication
5 seconds after the last adjustment or
when another function is activated.
4BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the
Bass mode by pressing the SEL button 3

panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the

5TREBLE CONTROL
To adjust the treble level, first select the
TreblemodebypressingtheSELbutton3
sotheTREindicationappearsonthedisplay
panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the
Treble mode, rotate the AUDIO ADJUST
2 control(VOLUP/DN)counter-clockwise
(DN) to decrease the treble response or
rotate clockwise (UP) to increase it as
desired. The level will be shown on the
display panel from a minimum TRE-7 to a
maximum of TRE 7 (TRE 0 indicates flat
response). The display will automatically
return to the normal indication 5 seconds
after the last adjustment or when another
function is activated.
6LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance,
first select the Balance mode by pressing
theSelect button3so theBAL indication
appears on the display panel. Within 5
seconds of choosing the Balance mode,
rotate the AUDIO ADJUST 2 control
(VOL UP/DN) counter-clockwise (DN) to
adjustthestereobalancetotheleftchannel
speakers,orrotateclockwise(UP)toadjust
ittotherightchannelspeakers. Thenumber
positionwillbeshownonthedisplaypanel
from BAl 10 (full left) to BAr 10 (full right).
When the volume level between the left
and right speakers is equal, BAL 0 will be
shownonthedisplaypanel.Thedisplaywill
automaticallyreturntothenormalindication
5 seconds after the last adjustment or
when another function is activated.
7FRONT/REAR FADER CONTROL
To adjust the front-rear speaker balance,
firstselecttheFadermodebypressingthe
SELbutton3sotheFAdindicationappears
on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of
choosing the Fader mode, rotate the
AUDIO ADJUST 2control (VOL UP/DN)
counter-clockwise (DN) to adjust the
front-rear speaker balance to the rear
speakersorrotateclockwise(UP)toadjust
ittothefrontspeakers. Thefaderposition
will be shown on the display panel from
FAr 10 (full rear) to FAF10 (full front).
When the level between the front and rear
speakers is equal, FAd 0 will be shown on
the display panel. The display will
automaticallyreturntothenormalindication
5 seconds after the last adjustment or
when another function is activated.
8TRACK SELECT
(TRACK // TRACK )
The Track Select functions are used to
quicklyaccessthebeginningofaparticular
audio track during CD changer operation.

9CDPLAY/PAUSESELECTOR( )
During CD changer operation, pressing
this button will temporarily stop play of the
disc (the indication will flash on the
display panel). Press the button again to
resume play of the disc from the point at
which it was stopped.

During CD changer operation, this button
is used to select the desired disc for play.

bm LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel
displays the radio frequency, time, and
other active functions.
NOTE: ItisacharacteristicofLCDpanels
that,ifsubjectedtocoldtemperatures
for an extended period of time,
theymay take longer to illuminate
than under normal conditions. In
addition,thevisibilityofthenumbers
ontheLCDmayslightlydecrease.
The LCD read-out will return to
normal when the temperature
increases to a normal range.
bn LOUDNESS CONTOUR (LOUD)
Duringradio,tapeordiscoperation,when
listening tomusic atlowvolumelevels,this
featurewillboostthebassandtrebleranges
to compensate for the characteristics of
humanhearing. Pressthebuttontoactivate
this feature and the indication LOUD will
appearon the displaypanel. Pressingthe
button again will deactivate the feature
(the LOUD indication will disappear from
the display panel).
bo RADIO SELECT BUTTON (BAND)
Eachtimethisbuttonis pressed, the radio
band is changed between AM and FM.
TheindicationsAMorFMwillappearinthe
display panel according to your selection.
When FM is selected, the stereo (ST)
indication will appear and , if the chosen
station is strong enough, the symbol
will also accompany the ST indication.
bp CHANNEL SELECTOR MANUAL
TUNING CONTROL
Turn the CHANNEL ADJUST-TUNE UP/
DN knob clockwise to tune upward in fre-
quency on the band in use, and counter-
clockwise to tune downward in frequency.
Thefrequencytowhichyouaretunedwillbe
shown in digital form on the display panel.
When tuning in a station, always adjust
the control so that the correct broadcast
frequencyisshownonthedisplayand you
are receiving a clear signal. If the radio is
tunedoff-frequency,youcouldexperience
distorted audio, noise and other reception
problems.
bq AUDIO MUTE SELECTOR (MUTE)
Press this button momentarily to mute the
volumefromthesystem(MUTEwillappear
on the display panel). Pressing the button
again, adjusting the Volume control 2, or
pressingtheAudioSelect(SEL)buttonwill
return to the volume level setting in use
before the Mute function was activated.
br FRONT PANEL RELEASE
BUTTON (OPEN)
Thisbuttonisusedtoreleasethemechanism
that holds the front panel assembly to the
chassis. To detach the front panel, press
thebuttonsothatthepanelassemblyfolds
down. Then grasp the panel at the middle
and slide it off of the chassis mounting
plate.
To re-attach the panel, align the panel
sidesover eachend ofthe mountingplate,
and carefully slide the panel into place,
making sure it is fully seated onto the
mounting plate. Swing the panel up into
place and then press the top until the
mechanism locks it into place.

bs THEFT-DETERRENT LED
A light-emitting diode (LED) is located on
the chassis behind the front panel, and is
visible when the panel assembly is swung
down. The LED will flash when the front
panel is removed from the front mounting
plate. The flashing light serves as a visual
warning to the would-be thief that the unit
has been disabled by removal of the front
panel.
bt RESET BUTTON
A RESET button is located on the front of
the chassis (front panel must be swung
down to access the button). The reset
circuitry is provided to protect the
microprocessor circuitry and should only
be activated under the following
circumstances as it will erase the time
memory:
1. Uponinitialinstallationafterallwiring
is completed.
2. If there is a malfunction of any of the
switchesontheunit,pressingtheRESET
button may clear the system and permit
a return to normal operation.
bu CASSETTE DOOR
Open and fold down the front panel of the
unit. Hold the cassette with the exposed
tape edge of the side to be played to the
right and insert it fully into the cassette
door (TAPE will appear on the display
panelaccompaniedbythecassettesymbol
( ) and play direction arrow ( or ) as
the cassette is engaged and begins
playing). When the cassette reaches the
end on the side of the tape being played,
theunit willautomaticallychangedirection
of play as shown by the arrow indications
on the display panel.
NOTE: Observe cassette operation
cautions in the Care and
Maintenance section of this
manual.
cl FAST-FORWARD/REWINDBUTTONS
( / )
These buttons cause the tape to move
rapidly in the direction indicated by the
arrows. For example, if the button is
pushedwhenthetapeismovingfromleftto
right ( on the display panel), the tape will
fast-forward. Ifthe button is pressed while
the tape is moving from right to left ( on
thedisplay panel), the tape will rewind. To
stop fast tape movement, lightly push the
opposite button. If the tape is allowed to
fast-forward or rewind all the way to the
end, play will automatically begin again
from that point.
cm TAPE PROGRAM SELECTOR
To manually reverse tape direction and
play the other side (program) of the
cassette,lightlypushboththeFast-Forward
and Rewind buttons cl at the same time.
The change of direction will be shown by
the arrows on the display panel.
cn EJECT BUTTON ( )
Tapeplaybackisstoppedandthecassette
is ejected by pressing this button. Radio
operation will automatically resume when
the cassette is ejected.
NOTE: Neverleaveacassette engagedin
the player when not in use. Doing
so can cause damage to the
cassette and/or mechanism of the
unit.Alwayspresstheejectbutton
and remove the cassette before
removing the detachable front
panel.

co FUNCTION (LEVEL) DISPLAY F
The Function Display consits of five bar
graphs which provide a visual
representation of the volume level and the
left and right channel balance levels. The
volume level is represented by three thin
bar graphs. As the volume is increased,
the number of illuminated segments will
increase. The left and right channels are
represented by the wider bar graphs. As
thesignalstrengthappliedtoeither theleft
or right channel increases, the number of
illuminated segments will increase.
cp FUNCTION SELECTOR (MODE)
This button is used to select the playback
mode (radio, cassette player or optional
CD changer). With each press of the
button, a different playback mode will be
selected as indicated on the front panel
display. During cassette play, the word
TAPE is displayed, together with an audio
cassette symbol ( ) and a directional
arrow( or )indicatingtapeplaydirection
(forwardorreverse). WhentheCDchanger
is selected, CdC momentarily appears on
the display, followed by the disc number,
tracknumberand rotating disc symbol .
During cassette operation, the button may
be used to change to radio or CD changer
without ejecting the audio cassette.
cq TIME/FREQUENCYSELECTOR(T/F)
During operation, press this button to call
thetimedisplayontheincorporatedquartz
clock. The display will return to the radio
frequency indication after 5 seconds.
DuringtapeandCDchangeroperation,the
first press of the button will call the time
display. In either case, the display will
return to the tape or disc indication after
approximately 5 seconds.
cr LOCAL/REPEAT CONTROL
(LOC/ RPT)
Duringradio,tapeorCDchangeroperation,
pressingthisbuttonselectsthelocalsetting
for the reception of strong signals. The
LOC indication will appear on the display
panel. Pressing the button again will
deactivatethefunction. During CDChanger
operation, pressing the button will
continously repeat the current disc track.

csLOUD/RANDOMTRACKSELECTION
CONTROL (LOUD/RND)
During radio operation when listening to
music at low volume levels this feature will
boost bass and treble ranges to
compensate for the characteristics of
human hearing (refer to bn) . During CD
changer operation, pressing and holding
this button for several seconds will cause
the CD Changer to play disc tracks in
random order. (Refer to function dq.)
ctMONO/INTRODUCTIONTRACKDISC
PLAY (MONO/INT)
During FM radio operation, this button is
used to select mono or stereo reception of
the broadcast signal. Under normal
receptionconditions,theunitshouldbeleft
in the stereo mode as indicated by the
ST indicationonthedisplaypanelwhen

1. Switch the vehicle ignition and radio “on”.
2. Press the Time/Frequency button to call the time display.
3. Press and hold the Time/Frequency Selector button cq with the time displayed.
The entire time display will blink.
4. Rotate the AUDIO ADJUST control clockwise in the VOL DN direction to adjust
thehours and AM/PM indication,and counter-clockwise inthe VOL UP direction
to adjust the minutes to the correct time.
5. Fivesecondsafter thelast hourorminute adjustmentismade, thetime willbeset

CD CHANGER CONTROLS
Built into this radio are controls to operate an
optional CD changer. Please check with your
Rampage/Audiovoxcar stereo specialist or call
1-800-645-4994 for recommendations of the
models that will work with this radio.
Adjustment of the audio functions (volume,
tone, balance, and fader) for the CD changer
operateinthesamemannerastheydoforradio
play. Thefollowingcontrols will operatetheCD
changer when it is installed and connected to
thisradio. Refertotheowner’smanualincluded
with the CD changer for instructions on the
installation and correct loading and use of the
CD magazine.

During radio or CD play, press this button to
select operation of the CD changer as shown

each track on the disc (INT will appear on

reached, press the button again to cancel

The indication RND will appear on the

button again for several seconds will

If a problem should develop while operating the CD changer, the following error codes
may appear on the display panel:
ER-1: Indicates that there is no magazine loaded in the CD changer.
ER-2: Indicates a problem with the magazine eject function.
ER-3: Indicates an error in the disc loading function.
ER-4: Indicates an error in the disc un-loading function.
ER-5: Indicates an error in the magazine position.
ER-6: Indicates an error in the laser pick-up position.
ER-7: Indicates an error in the laser focus on the disc.
In any of the above situations, try ejecting the CD magazine from the changer and
make sure the discs are clean, undamaged, and loaded correctly(refer to the Owner’s
Manual of the CD changer). Re-load the magazine and check for proper operation.
You may also try activating the RESET button bt on the unit, but this will also erase the
time and pre-set memories.
If the suggested measures do not solve the problem, contact an approved warranty sta-
tion near you for further assistance.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The radio portion of your new sound system does not require any maintenance. We
recommend you keep this manual for general reference of the many features found in
this unit.
As with any cassette player, the cassette section of this sound system does require a
minimumofmaintenancetokeepitingoodworkingcondition. Thefollowingsimplecare
and maintenance suggestions should be followed to prevent malfunctions of the
cassette system.
Cassette Care:
1. Purchase a cassette cleaning kit from your local retail store. Use it! At least every
20 to 30 hours of operation you must clean the cassette mechanism. A dirty
cassette player will have a poor sound.
2. Do not use cassettes that exceed 45 minutes of play on each side.
3. Do not insert a cassette that appears to be broken, twisted or dirty or with loose or
torn labels on it.
4. Always keep your cassettes away from direct sunlight or exposure to sub-freezing
conditions. If a cassette is cold, allow it to warm up before use.
5. Do not keep a cassette in the player when not in use.
6.Before inserting a cassette in the player, check that the tape is tightly wound on the
reels.
HANDLING COMPACT DISCS
Dirt, dust, scratches, and warpage can cause skips in the playback and deterioration of
sound quality. Please follow these guidelines to take care of your compact discs:
Use only compact discs with the mark:
Fingerprints,dust, and dirt should be carefully wiped off the disc’s playing surface (shiny
side)with a softcloth. Wipe in astraightmotion from theinsideto the outsideof the disc.
Never use chemicals such as record sprays, household cleaners or thinner to clean
compact discs. Such chemicals can irreparably damage the disc’s surface.
Discs should be kept in their storage cases when not in use.
Do not expose discs to direct sunlight, high temperatures or high humidity for extended
periods.
Do not stick paper, tape, or labels on the disc surfaces nor write on them with any type
of marker.
