HOT FOOT
OWNER’S MANUAL
Model HF1
Congratulations on having your Hot Plate modified with the HOT FOOT
Solo Boost Mod, developed by award winning amp builder and guitarist
Bruce Clement. That’s me.
Your Hot Plate now has a footswitch-controlled boost. With the Hot Foot,
you can turn your Hot Plate up one notch – at any time – using the
footswitch!
I sincerely hope you enjoy playing your new Hot Foot as much as I
enjoyed building it.

WARNINGS
OBSERVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PRODUCT
MANUAL THAT CAME WITH YOUR HOT PLATE (available for download from
www.thdelectronics.com).
Use ONLY the included power supply or a comparable 9VDC power supply
capable of providing a minimum of 150mA of current and configured with a
standard Boss/Ibanez style plug (2.1mm negative pin, positive sleeve). Use of an
incorrect power supply may result in damage to the Hot Foot circuitry, the Hot
Plate or the amplifier.
Connect ONLY the included footswitch to the footswitch jack on the rear of the
Hot Plate. Connecting any other device may result in damage to the Hot Foot
circuitry, the Hot Plate, the amplifier or the connected device.
DO NOT engage the Boost when the Hot Plate is set to LOAD, as doing so may
result in damage to the Hot Foot circuitry, the Hot Plate or the amplifier.
When using a high powered amplifier (100w or higher), particularly with a lot of
power tube saturation, follow these precautions to avoid excessive heat build-up:
•Avoid engaging the Boost for extended periods of time.
•When using the -16dB setting, set the Hot Plate’s fine adjustment
control on the right to its fully clockwise setting (-16dB).
WHAT’S IN THE BOX

CONNECTIONS
1. Connect the Hot Plate between your amplifier and speaker as
usual. Always use speaker cables – not instrument cables – to
make speaker connections.
2. Using the included 1/8" mini phone cable, connect the footswitch
to the Hot Plate by plugging one end of the cable into the 1/8"
jack on the footswitch, and the other end of the cable into the
1/8" jack on the rear of the Hot Plate.
3. Connect the power supply to the 9VDC jack on the footswitch.
Plug the power supply into a suitable wall outlet or power strip.
USING THE HOT FOOT
The Hot Foot turns the Hot Plate up one notch when engaged. It works at any
attenuation setting. For example, if you have the Hot Plate's rotary attenuation
switch set at -8dB, when you hit the Hot Foot footswitch, it goes up to
-4dB. Step on the footswitch again and it goes back to -8dB. The knob does not
actually move; you get the electronic equivalent of turning the knob.
LEDs on the Hot Plate and the footswitch indicate Boost mode.
Your tone is completely unchanged by the Hot Foot mod. You get the exact
same tone that you get when you turn the rotary attenuation switch by hand. It's
just done electronically.
Everything on the Hot Plate works the same as before - the Bright and Deep
switches, the bulbs, the Line Out, the fan. In fact, unplug the footswitch cable,
and your Hot Plate is back to normal - it operates just as it always has, as if it
were unmodded.
TIPS
The Line Out is not modified by the Hot Foot mod. It operates just as it always
has, and responds the same as it does when you rotate the Hot Plate's
attenuation control by hand.
The footswitch cable may be extended using a standard 1/8" headphone
extension cable.
