2. SETTING UP AND RUNNING

Fir stly, put the two spe ed pu ll ey which is su pplied with the m ach ine head to the m ot or s ha ft and sel

apar t 357 mm from the centre of the machine . Set the position apart 10 7.5mm fr om the
edge of the table t op to the end of pulley as s how n in Fig 2. Drill th e holes at the cor r ec t p os ition.

2. Setting the m ac hine head on table top
I) Set the ba se.

Put the ba se on the tab le lop as per Fig. 4 and put two

elt s as sho wn in Fi g. 3. In the distri ct of 50 H z, use
wit h 42" for lar g er diam eter pu ll ey and 43" for sma ll er
diamete r pu ll ey. In the dis tr i ct of 60 H z, use wit h both
-l l''s.
At the
pro per ten sion of t\\'O bells, fa sten the base with
wood
screw s to tab le lo p s ec ur ely.

Put the hing es in the bed and pl ace the m ach ine h ea d on the ba se .

Put the tension pu ll ey as sh ow n in Fig. 5.
4) Put the h ead rest.

Th en, put the fl at belt between base pu ll ey and tension pulley as shown in Fig. 5.

6) Put the bobbin winder assem bly as per Fig. 7. At that time, pl ease make sure to be right angle

7) Put the belt cover with flat head screws.

3 . HOW TO USE THE MACHINE
1. Cleaning up
It is ab so lutely nec ess ary to maintain the hook and ra ce clean ing up in order lo get the b ea utiful
butto nh ole stitches. Pl ea se remove a ll th e du sts and li nts to get the consta nt bea utiful st it ches .
I) Remove a ll the du sts or lints w hi ch will be acc umul ated b etwee n n ee dle plat e a nd hook al l east
on ce a da y af te r job finish.
2) Remove all the du
sts or lints \\'hich will be accumu l ated on the pr esse r fo ol and thread trimming
mechanism whenever you ma y re cog nize the nece ss it y.
2. Needle and its setting
i\ lodel LH 4 -B 814 is used with DP X 5 needle.
Use the n
ee dle as thin as possible. It mu st be matching the thickn ess of thr ead and needle eye so
th at the thr ead may pass th rough the needle eye s mooth l y.
In general. for purl stitch. th e recomm ended needle size is upto ::II. \\·hereas for whip stitc h. upt o
;:9.
T o set the needle to the needle bar , pl ease refer to Fig. 12. Short groove in fr ont of you and fasten the
needle set sc r ew conf irming that the needle co m es a ll the way upto the needle bar hole.
*The reco mm ended an gle of the needles is a bit left dir ection against the cen tr e of n ee dle ba r. Al
this setting position, it is effective to elimin ate s kip s ti tch es .
3. Selection of thread and threading
For good qua li ty butt onholes. u se for upper thread with only high grade thr eads. pref er ably cotton
t hread s in si xe of ~40-#60 , 4-6 ply thread, left h and twisted, uniform in di ameter w ithou t kn ot or slubs.

For lower thread. it is r ecom mended to use with ±:: 50· ::: I 00
cotton thr ead . but it can be assured to get sewing perform·
ance with synt h et ic threads as well.
To wind the thread in b ob bin, pl ease refer to Fig. 13. 'vVind
4-5 times around the empty bobbin counter cl ockw ise. and
push the l eve r to st ar t to wind. When suffi cient amount
of thread s will be wound. the bobbin winder will stop auto-
mati ca lly. The amou nt of threads to be wound is adjusted
by the screw.

6. Regulating lower thread tension

In case that ~ ·ou may tight en the sc rew A. the tension will be
st ronger. and ,·i ce ,· ersa . Th e co r rect tension of low er thread is
that when you pick the thread encl . the bo bbin wi ll sl owly go
down by its own ,,·eight as per Fi gs 15 . 16.

7. In serting bobbin case in to hook
8. Runn ing
Pl ease refer to Fig. I/ to in se rt t he bobbin case into hook. At
that time. please mak e sure to pull the thr ea d end to w ard you
in order to avoid thread jamming.
When you will slarl the ma. chine. please mak e s ure to be no rma l sto p position, that is, t he stopper is
en
gaged in th e stopper cam. U nl ess y ou may be acquainted with this machine. pl ease ref r ain the
machine from starting by the m otor. Fig 19.
Th e best way to co mprehend the m ac hine m ech ani sm thoroughly, please s tart the m ac hi ne by hand
driving the pu ll ey slowly to observe the respect ive movements. At f irs t. r emove thr ea d, needle, b obb in
case and c ull er th en star t to run.
\\"ith left tr ea dle pedal. you can lift the presser foot and with right treadle pedal. you ca n start the
ma chin e.
Th is ma chi ne is designed with sa fe ly device, ,,·hich preven ts the machin e from sta rting while the
presser f oo t is lifted and pr events the presser foot from lifting up while mach ine runs. The refore. if
you depresseright treadle pedal on t he hal f w ay of left peda l engagement. the machine will not start
to run, and l ef t treadle pedal will not engage in lifting presser foot while m ac hine is running.

ea ns th at ma ch in e spee d will be reduced to 800 rpm by press-
ing the lever and \\"ill be re du ce d to zero by re leasing the
l eve r.)
11 . Operating manual f ee ding handle
\\"hen you wi ll use the emergency sto p l eve r or when the t hr e ad breakage causes dur ing its operation,
you wou ld like to r es tart the machine just before the defecti ve st itc h. At that time. turn the fe ed c am
clockwise by me ans of this man ual f ee ding handle al yo ur desired position. Fig 1 9.
(l\O TE) 1. At the repairing of this m ac hine. on the condition tha t th e stop cam may be off from
s
topper which is on the condition of depressi.ng the right trea dle pedal. aft er turning the
pu
ll ey by hand. th ere cau ses sometim es the cutt er being oper ated to drop at th e ma chine

tartin g to run. Thi s ca n be avoided by st arting the machine from no rm al sto p position
or
dep ressing the c ut ter stop l ever as shown in Fig. 1 8.
2. Th e manual feeding ha ndle shou ld be u se d when the needle is apart from th e mater ial s. It

sa fe to op e rate the manual feeding handle at th at position that stop c am st op s at th e

4. ADJUSTMENT
1. Regulating upper thread tension
Thi s model LH4- B8 14 ha s t\\"O upper thr e ad tension regul ator s. As shown in Fi g. 12 . the up per tension
regul
ato r plays a role of r eg u lating th e upper thread tension on the bar tack ing on both ends of button-
holes an d the l ower tension r eg ula tor on the parall el zigzag tens ion.

1) Regulating the upper tens io n regulator, pl ease obtain the tension so as to be whip sti tch on th e
part of bar tac king.
2) R eg ul ati ng th e l ower tension regulator, pl ease obtain the tension so as to be st raight raised st it ch
on the pa rt of zi gzag in pa ra ll el.
Th e st r onger the tension, the mor e bea utiful the se am s. However, th ere ex i sts the li mit and if it
will
exceed the limit, it causes th e upper th read breakage , so pl ease be caref ul to obtain the
proper
ten sion.
b) In
case of whip s tit ch
1) Tighten the te nsion of bobbin ca se and o bt ain th e st r onger tension in compa ri son w it h the tension
for purl s
tit ch.
2) Loosen the tension on l ower tension regul ato r prop er l y.
(NOTE) On whip stitc h, s ame thread s on upper and lower are recommendable.
