2. Settin g the machine h ea d on tab le top

be l ts as sh ow n in F ig . 3. In the dis tri ct of 60 Hz, us e

This model is construc ted t hat o il reservoir is a par t of bed
p
lat e which is see n underneath the tab le to p. Oil!ng is made
as per Fig. 6 and pour oil onto the o il filte r.
Pour oil until the upper li ne of o il gauge window.
Check in the oil gauge window b efore star ting j obs whe th er
prop er oil is conta ined or not and in case that oil ma y sh ow
under the lower line, fulfil o il properly.

Turn the oil flow r eg ulating valve on the ri gh t side of the
bed \\'ith a screwdriver so that when the motor is s witch ed
on o
il may be vis ible in the pipe in the o il gauge winclo\\' in
Lhe

3. HOW TO USE THE MACHINE
1. Cleaning up
It is absolute ly ne cessa ry to maintain the hook and rac e cl ea ning up in orde r to ge t the beautiful
buttonhole s titche s. Pl ease re mov e all the dusts and li nts to ge t th e con sta nt beautifu l st it ches .
1) Remove all the dust s or lints which will be accumu l ated be tw een n ee dle pl ate and hook at least
once a clay
after job finish.
2) f~emo ve all the du sts or lints which will be accumulated on the presser foot and thread trimm ing
mechanism \\'hen eve r you may r ecog ni r.e the necessity.
2. Needle and its setting
Model Lll 4·B8l4-4 is u se d with DP x 5 n ee dle.
U se the needle as thin as possible. It must be matching the thickness of t hr ead and needle eye so
that the thr ead may pass thr ough the needle eye smoothly .
In general. for purl stitc h. the r eco mm end ed n ee dle size is upto ±j: 11. \\·herea: for \\'hip st itch. upto
#9.

t hi s sell ing position, it is cffect i\·e to el iminat e skip st itches.
3. Selection of thread and threading
For good quality buttonho l es . usc fo r upper thread with only high grade t hr eads, pr eferab ly cotton
threads in si ze of :± 40-#60. 4·6 ply thread. l eft hand twi sted, uniform in diameter wit h ou t knot or slubs.
Thi s model Ll l4-B81 4-4 can be sewn with the sy nthetic t hr ea ds as well as cotto n thr eads ..
Right
hand twisted thread or po or quality threads cause thread br eakage \\'hich drop the productivity.
Theref ore. please mak e s ur e to use hi gh grade th r eads to u se with this ma chine.
Use for l owe r thre ad with hi gh grad e thr ea ds as we ll in size of #50-# 100.

4. Winding lower thread

For lower thread. it is r ecomme nded to u se with #50-# 100
c otton th r ead. but it ca n be assured to get sew ing pe rform-
ance with sy nth e tic thread s as well.
To wind the thre ad in bobbin. ple ase refer to Fig. 1 4. Wind
4-S tim es around the e mpt y bo bbin counte r clockwi se, and
push the l eve r to st art to wind_ When suffici ent amount
of thr ea ds will be wnund. the b obb in winder will stop auto-
mati ca ll y. The amount of threads to be wound is adjusted
by the screw.

6. L ow er tension

the t ens ion of lo we r thread. set the bobbin case o nt o r ota ry
hook and pull the l
ower thread. then ch eck its tension and
adjust it. (See fi g. 16)
The tension of lower thr ea d is adju ste d by the thr e ad re ta ining
spring
and braking spring. Ea ch tension as sta n dard is 10 - 15
grams by thread reta i ning sp ring and 20 g ram s by braking
s pring , thu s s tandard tens ion is 30 -35 g ram s in total.
(N OTE) Braking s prin g is cor r ectly adjusted befor e shipment.
so that you n eed no adju st me nt until it wi ll be out of o rd e r.
7. Inserti ng bobb in ca se in to hook

Pl ea se refer to Fig.l8 to in se rt the bobbin case into hoo k. At
th at time , pl ease mak e s ur e to pull the t hr ea d end to ward you
in order to avo id thr ea d jammin g.

The best way to co mpr ehend th e m ach ine m ec han ism thoro ug hl y, pl ease start th e machine by hand
driving the pu ll ey sl ow ly to ob se rve the respec tive move ment s. At first, remove t hr ead. n eed le. bobbin
case and c utt er th en st ar t to run.
With left tr ea dle pedal. you ca n lift th e c lamping foot and with right tr eadle pe d ;- tl. you c an st art the
ma chine.

hi s ma chine is designed with s afet y devi ce . which pr eve nts the ma c hi ne from s tar ting while the
clamp ing foot is lifted and preve nt s the clamping foot from lifting up while ma chine runs. Ther efore,
if
you de pr ess right tread le pe dal on the half way of left pedal en gagemen t, the machine will not s tart
to run, and left tr ea dle p eda l will not en gage in lifting cl amp ing f oo t while m ac hine is running.

10 . Emergency stop

It is esse ntial to stop th e mac hine insta nt aneously eve n if
the machine runs when the nee dl e breaks or t hr ea d jamm in g in
the hook. Th is pr eve nts the m ac hine and m ate rials from
da ma ge .
In this case, de
pr ess down the emergency stop lever by hand
and rel ease it. ( Thi s oper at ion of the emergency stop l ever
m ea ns th at m ac hine spee d will be reduced to 800 rpm by press·
ing the lever and will be re duced to zero by rel eas ing the
lever.)
11 . Operating manual feeding ha ndle
\\ 'hen you wi ll u se the emer ge ncy stop lever or when the t hr ead br eak age ca u ses during it s oper at ion.
you would like to resta rt the mac hine ju st be fore the def ect ive stitch. At that time. turn the f ee d cam
clockwise by means of t hi s manual f ee ding handle at your d es ir ed position. Fig 20.

dep ressing the cu tte r stop l eve r as shown in Fig. 19.
2. T he m an ual f ee ding handle should be u se d wh en the needle is apart from the materia l' s. It
is
safe to ope rate the m an ual f ee ding handle at that p os ition that stop cam stops at the
correct angle.
4. ADJUSTMENT
1. Upper tension
This machine is equipped with two t ens ion r eg ulator s. Up pe r tension is r eg u la ted by the tension of
an d no n ee d to tension.

At that time. the tension 1s regul ated by turning the sub-
te nsion knob so as to be 10- 15 gr ams wh en the upp er thr ead
is pulled downward.

guide. Adjustment is done as foll ows; -
(1) In case of left zigzag, the poi nt of gi mp g ui de should be positioned at the left end of zigzag width.

8. Gimp and zigzag width
(1) Usually, the gimp to be used for outer knit wears is fine or medium gauge yarn or linking thread.
To make strong and durable buttonhole which means not stretchable against longer stitches, gimp
should be used with strong and greater friction.
(NOTE) If you use synthetic thread like Nylon or Dacron as gimp, there causes slippage between
gimp and upper thread, then buttonhole shape becomes twisted.
(2) As the width of zigzag and the thickness of the gimp is very much affected on the strength of the
buttonhole, the narrower zigzag width is recommended to get the stronger buttonhole. At this time
the width is limited a bit wider than the gimp thickness.
9. Durability of blades
The blades to adopt on this machine is specially treated and ensures its long durability.
But after a considerable use or thicker gimp, it becomes dull. In that case, resharpen or replace it.
(NOTE) \Vhen you would remove or fix the work clamp assembly, make sure that the machine should
be stopped at the left zigzag sewing position.
In case of changing the blades. take the following steps.
(1) Set the machine at left zigzag sewing position.
(2) Turn the manual handle so that the stud screw for work clamp will be positioned to remove by
the screw driver. That is the position that the screw driver may not touch the needle.
(3) After loosening the screw for the pressure spring, remove the stud scre·ws and remove the work
clamp.
~ (4) Change the blade.
(5) To assemble it. take the reverse steps as mentioned above.
10. Work clamp lift
The materials underneath the work clamp after pressing down
by work clamp are limited to be at the maximum of 6mm by
this machine. In case of thicker materials than 6mm, needle
bar may hit the gimp guide, then make sure the thickness of
the materials to be sewn at the maximum of 6mm.
11. Synthetic thread
(1) Stretchable synthetic thread like Nylon or Dacron is used
to be beautiful stitches as upper thread very recently. At
that time, change the thread guide as per Fig 39, which is
enclosed in the accessory box.

(2) To avoid the thread breakage, the amount to be wound on
the bobbin is
at maximum of 70-80%.

(3) When you use the synthetic thread as upper thread, and encounter occational thread breakages,
check the
back side of rotary hook if there are the threads wound and eliminate them.
(4) In case of synthetic thread used as upper thread, the maximum speed is limited at 2,800 s.p.m.,
however, depending on the kind and thickness of the materials, due
to the extra-ordinary heat on
the needle, it causes upper thread breakage, use with the special needle, get the machine slow
down and put the sylicone oil into the felt on the thread guide.
12. Placing gimp end
Place the end of gimp passing through the gimp guide into the gimp holder, bending spring. (Fig. i3)
If you hold the gimp and upper thread, it prevents the blade from returning, thus occationally, there
causes
that the blade hits the cutter. Therefore, please be accustomed not to hold the gimp with your
finger.
13. Single cycle use
This machine is adjusted to be automatic double cycling at the shipment, however, if you wish to use
this machine with single cycle, adjust the machine
as follows : -
(1) Put the stop cam. (Contained in the accessory box)
(2) Put the cutter cam. (Contained in the accessory box)
(3) Furthermore, remove the gimp guide swinging cam (A) which is located under the cutter cam, and
put the gimp guide swinging
cam (B) which is contained in the accessory box.
You
can get the machine as single cycle, take note that the cam (A) and (B) is quite resemble each
other. therefore, do not mix up.
14. Bar tacking
This machine can get the wider tacking to be much
cleaner sewing of the gimp, and
at your option, it
can
get the buttonhole without bar tacking.

Work clamp lift is only functioned after sewing one buttonhole. In case of other occasions, safety
device
is engaged not so as to lift up the work clamp. This features that it prevents the threads and
gimp from trimming when you
want to stop the machine with emergency stop lever due to thread
breakage or empty bobbin thread during sewing.
